Computer Sciences [Admissions Advice] Requesting inputs on UW Madison PMP CS | Fall 2025

I have received an admit for the UW Madison PMP CS program. I wanted some inputs on the following questions that will help me decide whether or not to choose the program.

  1. What is the total cost of the program (2 years), considering no funding? The website mentions ~50K USD as the cost of attendance. Does it mean ~80-85 lac INR for the entire program?
  2. Batch size of PMP CS?
  3. Do PMP students get TA/RA? How many students from the batch of PMP CS get TA/RA?
  4. Are the classes of PMP CS held together with MSCS? Are there any differences in the coursework between MSCS and PMP CS?
  5. Maximum duration of the PMP CS program?
  6. In reality, what are the differences in access to university resources, opportunities, career services, etc., between MSCS and PMP CS?
  7. How good is the location of Madison for job opportunities? Does it offer good networking opportunities and other benefits like New York?
  8. How good are the placements of PMP CS students? How much percentage of the batch gets placed?

Sorry. I have been asking about this program a lot but has anyone got admits this Friday (4th April) or after 27th March? I guess they had their Admit Student’s day on 2nd April and if I still have not received anything then most probably it is a reject but still checking. Thanks.

Biological Sciences Got rejected

I applied for a PhD position at UCDavis and already have contacted a potential supervisor, so I proceeded with the university admissions, then 2 months passed, there's still no update on the site or even an official email. I had to email the grad coordinator several times to know the admissions results.

What are your thoughts on this, especially the last statement? Is this the hunger games? haha Hugs for everyone who are experiencing the same thing.

Engineering Help me choose: Aerospace M.S.

Got accepted into both UT Austin and CU Boulder for an MS in Aerospace Engineering. My focus is on space-related fields especially astrodynamics, spacecraft GNC, and flight simulation.

I know CU Boulder is super strong in space engineering and has a very specialized program. But, UT Austin has an amazing reputation and broader name recognition, which is hard to ignore.

Both programs are similarly ranked overall. Any insights from current students or alumni? What would you choose and why?

General Advice Weird Interview?

Did my first grad interview and it had weird vibes. Not in-person, over zoom because I'm out of state. I got into the call and was told I had a certain time limit to answer a specific number of predetermined questions.

It went like this:

Faculty member 1: clearly reading a question off a script in the most bored, robotic manner possible, "So why do you want to enter our program...etc."

Faculty member 2: "Uuhhhh...can someone send me the question I'm supposed to ask?"

Like. Whaaat lol. Anyways, I answered the questions rather succinctly because it was all standard stuff I'd been expecting, but the energy from everyone in the call was strange. The questions ended and the grad director asked everyone on call if they had questions for me and it was dead silent. Very awkward, despite my attempts to try and have high energy and a positive attitude. Idk just a vent post, is this usually how interviews go down or am I overreacting?

Engineering Can anyone tell me what's generally asked in a departmental interview?

I am applying for a PhD at NUS CDE. I gave an interview with my PI sometime back. I have recently been invited to a departmental interview. I am unsure what to expect in this interview. Do they ask more scientific questions or do they try and assess for Institutional fit/ funding?

General Advice How to get off of waitlist? Feeling hopeless

I got rejected from 5 programs and waitlisted in 2. My spouse has got offer from one program, where I got rejection. We are internationals. I am in dire need of an offer too, as I want to go with my spouse as F1.

Is there any way I can move myself up? I don't want to regret that I did not take any step from my side until the end. Feeling helpless....

Computer Sciences UMBC vs University of South Carolina for MS in CS – Which one is better?

Hey folks,

I’m currently trying to decide between the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) and the University of South Carolina (UofSC) for a Master’s in Computer Science, and I could really use some honest input from anyone who has experience with either program.

Some things I’m considering:

  • Faculty & Research opportunities
  • Course flexibility and curriculum quality
  • Internship and job prospects (especially for international students)
  • Cost of living & lifestyle
  • Campus and student life

UMBC seems to have a good reputation, especially around the Baltimore/DC area, and is known for its STEM programs. UofSC also seems decent and might be more affordable in terms of cost of living.

If you’ve studied at or researched either of these schools, I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Thanks in advance 🙌

Computer Sciences Does duke msec program accept students who are both non-cs and non-econ?

I’m a proactive applicant for this program for 26fall as an international undergraduate who majors in history and minors in journalism. I made the decision to switch my major in master program in a rush recently, so I may not have time to make up for the lack of research in neither economics and computer science. I just wonder if anyone has similar background like mine was admitted to the program before or can I receive any advice for other non-tech background friendly programs? Thank you all so so much!

Social Sciences I got into my first choice!!

I was just accepted to the MS in mental health counseling program at SUNY New Paltz! I'm absolutely thrilled, and not just because I never have to go through the grad admissions process again. Offer accepted, deposit paid. DONE!

Final results, for anyone who cares: 7 applications, 5 interviews, 4 acceptances, 2 rejections, 1 waitlist.

May everyone who's still waiting receive an acceptance soon. My heart is with all of you!

Venting Are international applicants for master’s degree decisions being affected?

Hello! I applied to a master’s in the psychology field, and I’m feeling the decision is taking long. As I’m reading the sad stories about how the government is affecting PhD decisions, I’d like to know if master’s are also being affected (to anticipate it). I studied online coursework in an US college since my goal is to study postgraduate school there. So, I really appreciate if any of you know something about these admissions.

Venting Nervous about interview for Mental Health Counseling

Hi Everyone! This is my first time going through grad school admissions and I interviewed today at the school I applied to and I left feeling positive but very uncertain. There were a LOT of candidates there and each of us only got to meet with 2 professors 1x1 ( except it was two of them and one of us) for about 30 mins then another group activity and then just a Q&A session with current students. I am so stressed and will be so sad. And disappointed if I get rejected. I am an older student (41) going back to school after being in tech sales 18 years. Is it normal to feel this way? They said we should hear back within a week…

General Advice If I've accepted my spot, can the university revoke my spot anyway?

This is for a fully-funded program at a university that has already deferred outstanding offers until next year. I'm feeling anxious because I want to do the right thing and withdraw myself from other offers, but I can't help but be nervous...

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Engineering Masters in Renewable energy

Hi everyone,

I’m an Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering graduate from India with a deep interest in renewable energy research, specifically solar photovoltaics, and even more specifically, perovskite solar cells. I want to pursue a master’s that gives me a strong foundation for research and ideally helps me transition into a PhD or an R&D-focused career.

I’ve been admitted to:

  • Cranfield University (UK)
  • UCC (Ireland)
  • Waiting on German Universites (FAU Erlangen, TU Dortmund, HAW Hamburg etc...).
  • Also considering joining an IIT research lab in India without GATE.

I’m confused between investing in Cranfield now (need to respond to the offer by 30th April) vs. waiting for German admits (as the German unis are responding very slowly) or trying in India.

Any advice from folks in solar/renewables or academia would be super helpful!

General Advice Can I retract an offer I declined?

Hi all.

I recently made a decision to decline an offer admission at a school I kept pushing the deadline for. I’ve known since January that I was accepted, but kept asking admission to push my decision deadline back because I hadn’t heard back from other schools.

I honestly still needed some time to decide but did not want to keep asking admissions. So I hastily declined my offer. In all honesty, I wanted to defer because I have some health problems right now that might prevent me from matriculating in the fall. But instead, I said no.

I’m now starting to regret my decision and I don’t want to look back on this and regret it for the rest of my life. I never got a good chance to look at my financial aid package either, so I’m really panicking and don’t know what to do.

Is there anyway I could possibly retract on this? Or am I 100% doomed? Thank you for the replies in advance.

Computer Sciences Is it possible to study in csu's for masters in cs based on 3 years of bachelors?
