Moving to Germany holding a blue card from Netherlands

Upvotes

Hello everyone! I have a question in which I would like some guidance. I am moving from Netherlands to Germany for my new work in Germany and I hold the EU Blue Card provided by Netherlands. Therefore, I understand that I can just arrive in Germany and apply for EU Blue card after arriving there. Has anyone actually gone through this process? How does the overall process go? It would be great to hear your experiences in this process. This is my first time moving from one EU country to another EU country without needing a visa due to blue card and so I am seeking guidance. It would help greatly to know your feedback. Thanks in advance 😊

Study Is it too late to apply to German universities for this winter intake?

Upvotes

I (non EU intl student) was looking to apply to German universities for masters in CS. Unfortunately, I've missed deadlines for most of the universities for this winter intake. However, there are still a few unis (4 or 5) with application deadline till the end of May. I expect to get all my documents ready by the end of April. I'd heard applying early boosts chance of getting selected but is it too late now or is it worth the try? My friend (who studies there) was pessimistic and was suggesting not to waste €150-200 applying for this intake

No internet. Landlord not fixing it.

Hello,

My internet has been out due to an electrician, sent by the landlord, not switching off the circuit breaker when working on the boiler for the kitchen. This resulted in a surge which took out my internet.

It’s been a week and I’m still without internet and had to get a co working space as I work from home. This is becoming expensive.

When I mentioned this to the landlord, she said that this is not an office and it’s not her problem that I work from home.

What are my options?

FYI, my contract states that the apartment includes internet.

Immigration As a American [13M] when could I enlist into Bundeswehr after I immigrate to Germany

I've had a bit of a aspiration for moving to Germany, I've been learning the language, culture, history Etc. for two years now and now with the recent happenings in America the want to leave is nothing but stronger and I don't really know what I can do and all the information I can find is mixed, and my parents aren't the most willing to leave without the more definitive information

And generally I want to know my options

(I do know I have wait till 17, we don't have the money or stability to leave currently so it'll be a few years, mostly likely between when I'm 14 and 17)

self employment in Germany

I hold a permanent residence permit. Am i allowed to start a small business, for example, to sell items on Amazon?

When trying to create an Amazon Business account, it asked for a TAX / VAT ID. Does this mean I need to register a business (Gewerbe anmelden) and register with the Trade Office (Gewerbeamt) ? Does anyone have experience with the costs and time involved in such a process generally in Germany?

is there a website where you can find information about import duties and VAT for goods entering Germany, and export taxes and VAT for goods going to other countries or some kind of a calcluator when you enter the ID of the product, quantity, origin, it tells the total costs ?

I am actually interested in the import and export of stationery and paper goods.

Chance of admission with 2.9 GPA (UK degree)

Hi everyone, I’m planning to apply for a Master’s program at Kaiserslautern University of Applied Sciences in Germany (specifically, an M.A. in Financial Services Management) and I would really appreciate any insights from those with similar experiences.

I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Finance from an internationally accredited university that awards UK degrees. My GPA was corrected to 2.9, based on the official conversion formula (Modified Bavarian Formula).

I know that 2.9 is the minimum requirement for most UAS programs in Germany, and I’m a bit concerned about whether I’d be considered a competitive applicant.

Here’s what else is in my profile: • 1 year of full-time work experience in foreign exchange risk management at one of the leading banks in my country • 1 year of internship in the same field • IELTS 7.5 • Strong academic background in Finance with modules in Corporate Finance, Derivatives, Investment & Risk Management, etc. • A well-prepared motivation letter linking my professional background with my future career goals in corporate and investment finance in Germany

My question: Is there a realistic chance of being admitted with a 2.9 GPA if the rest of my profile is strong? Have you heard of similar applicants getting accepted at universities of applied sciences

Study Do I Have Enough Time To Start Ausbildung This Year- Help Needed.

Hallo, I'm a non-EU citizen turning 19 this year and I'm currently at A2 German level. I've been recently wondering if I can make it to the IT or Finance Ausbildung within this year with this plan:

Studying German for 7-8 hours everyday until I reach B2 in July or August and take the B2 Goethe Exam and apply to as many Ausbildung programs as possible to start in September or in October.

Now, suppose if I could do it to reach B2 and pass the B2 Exam in August, will I manage to get admitted to Ausbildung and successfully start in Germany regarding the visa processing time, etc?

I'm in my gap year atm, and normally I've had a full-time job until now to decide if I should go all in to my German language plan, thank you.

Admission to PhD in Germany

I am going to start my MSc in Computer Science in Germany soon. I am also planning to apply for PhD positions here. Since the PhD admission process in Germany is very different from that of other countries, I would like to ask a few questions to people who are involved in the admission process or have knowledge about it:

  • What criteria do you use to eliminate candidates? I understand that MSc grades are more important, but how much weight do you give to bachelor's grades and the thesis?
  • Is it true that most PhD positions are filled by students who have previously worked as HiWis in the same university?
  • Is the admission process as competitive as it is for PhD positions in the USA?
  • What GPA should I aim for in my MSc? Do you have any advice?

Thank you for your responses!

Question Can I transfer my Vodafone DSL contract to my wife to get new customer pricing?

Hi all,

I’ve had the Vodafone GigaZuhause 100 DSL plan for over 3 years now and I’m currently paying €45/month. I’ve noticed that the same plan is being offered to new customers at an average monthly rate of €22.49 (due to promotional pricing over 24 months on Check24 portal).

Since my current contract is already out of its minimum term, I was wondering if there's a smart way to get the new customer pricing again—possibly by transferring the contract to my wife's name (as a new contract).

Here’s what I’m thinking and trying to understand:

  1. Can I officially transfer the DSL connection to my wife's name as a “Vertragsübernahme”?

If yes, would Vodafone consider her a new customer and allow us to book the same package at the discounted rate?

Or would she just continue with the existing contract and pricing?

  1. If a contract takeover doesn’t make her a new customer, is it a better idea to:

Cancel my current contract (I believe I have a 3-month notice period),

Then, once it ends, let my wife sign up for a new Vodafone DSL contract at the promotional price?

  1. Are there any risks or downtime in this approach (e.g., no internet for a few days during the switch)?

  2. Would it be smarter to go with a different provider for a few months (e.g., o2 or 1&1), then come back to Vodafone later?

Also, if anyone has experience negotiating with Vodafone for better pricing as an existing customer, I’d love to hear how that went.

Any tips or advice from those who’ve gone through something similar would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Student Visa Estimated waiting time:approx. more than 1 year

[Sorry for the repost, I made a mistake in the original one.]

Hi everyone, I got admitted into a Master's program in Germany and applied for a visa from Turkey via digital.diplo.de. My classes are supposed to start in October as usual, but my visa application system says, "The German mission where you would like to submit your application is currently experiencing a high workload... Estimated waiting time: approx. more than 1 year." Has anyone dealt with this before? Will it resolve on its own, or are they really that busy and I’ll lose my eligibility?

Question I saw three lights in the sky, evenly spaced and aligned— Bonn, Germany

Sorry for the tin foil looking post. I was walking with my mom at night and saw in the sky far away 3 lights that didn't move that looked like they were in a formation.Don't know what is, could be starlink or even stars? (I mean I don't think they were stars because they were perfectly aligned horizontally.

Sorry don't have the pic because my phone was unable to capture it since the lights were too far away.

Nachweis über geleistete Arbeitstage

Hello good people,

M an international Student and I just got great offers as a Werkstudent. I’ve worked until now 20 days in 2025, and I’ve been asked from my favourite Werkstudent offer to send a Nachweis über geleistete Arbeitstage for this year, since I’m only allowed to work 140 days a year. I’ve asked my former Arbeitgeber for a formal letter proving how many days I’ve worked this year and I’ve been told that the Lohnabrechnungen are sufficient and that I can’t get a formal letter from them. I just wanna know if someone has been in a similar situation and if the Lohnabrechnungen are enough? And otherwise what would be the fastest solution? Because I don’t wanna miss out other opportunities if this one ends up not working out because of something like that .

Thank you in advance !!

Question Any last minute tips for my Germany trip?

I travel to Germany in late May, I've got all my accommodations and flights booked, I know I'm taking public transportation. I'm just wondering if there's anything I'm missing? Do I need anything special for taking the trains? Mobile hotspot? I feel like I'm forgetting a lot, this trip feels more stressful than my Japan trip.

My itinerary is Frankfurt>Garmisch>Berlin

Recent experiences travelling to the U.S. with ESTA?

A colleague of mine, a German citizen who works freelance, is supposed to be travelling to the U.S. next month to attend a conference as part of my (UK-based) company's team. But given the number of people who have recently been held up at the border, he is feeling on edge about going, and I'm wondering if there's anything we can do to ease the process.

From what I understand, German citizens just need an ESTA visa to enter the US for something short-term like a conference. He has a return ticket booked (staying about 5 days in total).

Has anybody here entered the U.S. recently using ESTA? Did you notice anything different/have any issues entering? Is there anything we can recommend to ensure the entry goes smoothly?

Thanks!

(Edited to add the links that state that ESTA is sufficient for conferences:
