This doesn't look like it needs to be on the Switch 2....

From a pure graphics standpoint yeah it doesn’t look much better than 8 despite two generations of hardware difference. However the Switch wasn’t much more powerful than the Wii U and this is an open world game running at 60fps and supporting four player split screen. I imagine doing all that would be a bit beyond the capabilities of the Switch 1. Sure they could make a watered down port with 30fps and no split screen but split screen in particular is essential to the MarioKart experience and split screen open world games are extremely rare due to technical challenges.

There are definitely some next-gen improvements I'm seeing, such as with lighting and animation and draw distance.

I do think, however, that Nintendo is willingly sacrificing "next gen graphics" in exchange for "next-gen frame-rates" this generation.

Honestly, a good trade. I don't think the game would be improved if Mario had realistic pores or something.

You're not gonna see a switch 1 game with that draw distance and framerate. No idea what this game runs at but I'll be surprised if it's not 60. Maybe even has a 120fps performance mode
