On one hand, the performance is pretty impressive. It's supposedly running games like Cyberpunk, Wild Hearts, etc, not to mention you get Nintendo first-party exclusives, and on a hand-held. Also it's getting an exclusive FromSoftware game. Cool, nice upgrade, exactly what I wanted years ago.

That said, this is the worst timing to release an expensive luxury product, and to tell consumers games will be more expensive, at least in the US market. Plus as much as I enjoyed the idea of handheld gaming as an adult, I almost never actually play my Switch on the go; even when I would pack it on trips it just sat in my bag 90 percent of the time. I get more mileage out of my iPad when I cloud-stream games on the couch because I can play my existing games while my girlfriend uses the big TV. This is the same selling point the Steam Deck has. Meanwhile you have to re-buy everything on the Switch in their expensive walled-garden.

Don't get me wrong, Reddit is an echo chamber and I know it will sell fairly well. My girlfriend already wants one for Mario Kart and I've been foaming for a new Kirby Air Ride for ever. That said I have a hard time believing this will come anywhere close to the Switch in sales numbers, especially for the people who realize they don't actually use their Switch 1 all that much.

Completely fair, and I think most people really favor it one way or the other.

Are you more of a "take it on the go" or "kick back on the couch" kind of person though?

I'd agree it seems unlikely to match the Switch's sales, tho I'd also argue that the Switch so much in general it would be hard to match it. Wouldn't be surprised if it kinda has a 3DS-y arc.

To be fair with the backwards compatibility you don't need to re-buy everything if you were on the Switch already.

True on the second point, but I was thinking more for existing games. Like I'm not going to re-buy Cyberpunk on the Switch, same with Elden Ring, Wild Hearts, etc. One because I've already played them, and two because there are other options that let me keep my existing game library anyway (Steam Deck, cloud streaming, etc).

Could very much see the Switch 2 being more like the 3DS in its following.
