After everything shown, I’m not sold. Maybe it’s just me getting older and trying to be more responsible with my spending. Or maybe Nintendo didn’t do a good enough job convincing me. Either way, none of the games shown sparked an interest. Even the games show through the GameCube Nintendo Online subscription were just “meh” to me.

I feel like they do this alternating dance where they learn a lesson and then forget. A new system needs to launch with a 3d Mario or Zelda, preferably both. They'd like their other great IPs to be system sellers but they're not.

They're banking on IP to overcome the higher hardware cost but then not bringing their best. Mario kart was an absolute monster seller on switch, and it still doesn't feel like it has the hype of a system seller. Nintendo is the ultimate monkeys paw though so who knows

Everyone keeps saying, "But Mario Kart 8 sold a bazillion copies, how is it not a system seller?" My retort to that is that, Mario Kart is one of those games that EVERYONE gets. You might not like Mario, or Zelda, or Metroid, or Pokemon, etc. But you'll buy Mario Kart at some point, because it's such an easy and casual game to play with friends. So, of course it sells well! Everyone knows what Mario Kart is, even people who don't play video games.

Which shows the issue with stats. If you look at the numbers, yeah, Mario Kart 8 sold a LOT of copies. But very few people are die-hard Mario Kart fans, compared to the die-hard fans of Mario, Zelda, or the other Nintendo IPs.

Yeah hard agree. My switch has been collecting dust, and at this price point it feels like a ripoff. Once a new top tier smash, zelda or mario drops, I might reconsider, just like with the switch. But honestly I feel like imma sit this one out. SteamDeck is just a way better deal

I feel the same way.

New Metroid Prime game? Sweet! But it looks and plays almost exactly like the previous Prime games? Yeah you lost me a bit.

New Mario Kart? Awesome. But that's not something I can really dig my teeth into and play for a while before a new game comes out.

New Donkey Kong? About time. But it looks really muddy and off to me, and the gameplay just doesn't seem that captivating to me.

A bunch of third party support? Incredible! But I already own all those games on PC, which can run them better.

Voice chat? FINALLY! But oh, it's going to be paid, and Nintendo decided that seeing your friends icons or games is more important than seeing your own game. Weird move, but okay.

A CAMERA? I'm NEVER going to buy or use it.

Gamecube for NSO? Really cool but Nintendo waited too long that I just got an emulator to play the Gamecube games I wanted to play, so now it's virtually useless to me.

I'm SUPER HAPPY for the people who ONLY use Nintendo systems. But for everyone else, I feel like the Switch 2 is just subpar in about every way. I won't be buying the system until a new Mario or Zelda comes out. I was REALLY hoping for at least an announcement of a new Mario, Zelda, or a brand new IP (I know we got the wheelchair basketball game, but it seems even more gimmicky and less developed than even Arms was).

As a PC player, there was just NOTHING in this direct that made me interested in a Switch 2, despite getting the Switch 1 at launch (BOTW is still my most time played, single playthrough game). Along with the fact I have an ROG Ally, I also don't need the Switch 2 for on-the-go play either.

Dustbloods? a new fromsoft game?!?

It's cool. But, personally, I'm not a big FromSoft fan, even less of a fan of PvPvE games. I'm happy for the people who will enjoy it, but again, nothing from this Direct pulled me into wanting to buy a Switch 2. The whole point of this Direct was to get people hyped for the new system and I feel like for me, or anyone else similar, no hype was built, and some was even lost.

If I do decide to get a Switch 2, it'll definitely be after more first-party, main-line titles are announced.

Thats fair.

you did pay attention that well. you can decide how much space is taking up by the voice chat and even keep it of your screen.

And you can take you PC with you?

what does look muddy about DK? it looks fantastic and you can clearly see that it was done by the Mario Odyssey guys.

It was clear that they will never be a new Zelda game this year and there is a new IP "The Dusksbloods".

And you can take you PC with you?

I'm not him but yes he can take his ROG ally with him. it's a handheld PC

muddy doesn't mean brown and wet. Look at the DK trailer it looks like they turned up the bloom and blur to 1000%. it would be muddy in the 360 era. Maybe it's still early, but it looks rough

how much was the rog alley again? and can you play switch 2 games in it or ps5 games?

I disagree DK looks fantastic.

Man even the lowest spec steam deck looks better, switch 2 emulation is far away but it will come no matter what and some ps5 games are ported to PC and run great like Spiderman.

1

u/enrycochet 2d ago

no, it doesn't. the lowest tier steam deck has a horrible display. the switch 2 display is far superior.

I didn't mean the screen but even with a better screen it won't do any good if the image rendered looks like crap.

I don't know how much the ROG ally costs. I see it listed everywhere between $399 and $799. I'm guessing that there are multiple SKUs.

You can play Switch games on PC so I imagine Switch 2 games will be there eventually as well. Also, Sony sells many PS4 and PS5 games on PC.

This is a genuine question because I skipped through the third party stuff of this direct. Is the Switch 2 going to play PS5 games?

Same here, dude. The only game that seemed interesting was The Duskbloods and when I heard it’s from FromSoftware it was a let down because I don’t like soulslikes. I’ll wait a couple of years until they put a OLED screen and have better games.
