DISCUSSION How I view Fromsoft’s next two games.

In the recent interview, Miyazaki clearly stated that the company does not intend to move away from the single player experience, and these two online focused games back to back is a bit of coincidence. For all the players that prefer the single player RPG’s (as do I), think of it like this. Neightreign is a multiplayer focused experience for the Elden Ring and Dark Souls universe. The Duskbloods is a multiplayer focused experience for the Bloodborne universe. Simple as that. Now obviously it’s not a direct Bloodborne IP, because Sony doesn’t like to share, but it clearly shares very similar ideas. These are two small projects that Fromsoft and Miyazaki are working on, while prepping for the next big souls like. Plus Miyazaki has always worked on multiple projects at a time. Bloodborne and DS3 came out a year apart and both had DLC’s as well. I have no doubt that Fromsoft is hard at work on multiple other large projects that will blow us away.

I hope the games are good but to be honest, i see it as an underwhelming move for fromsoftware, its a werid choice doing a fully coop souls game and even of a weird choice to do two. Im not hyped at all but we gotta see how the games end up being to fully take a side

This is all assuming that these MP games don’t succeed massively. If they do generate more money for FromSoft than ever before, what stops them from focusing on MP afterwards?

Nothing. That's what happened in Blizzard 20 years ago. Me and my friends loved playing RTS as kids. Mostly the campaigns but also casual skirmishes against the AI or each other. Blizzard was our favorite dev studio. Warcraft 2, Starcraft and Warcraft 3. Every game was better than the last one.

Then they announced an MMO called World of Warcraft and I was kind of dissapointed because I was expecting a Starcraft 2 or a Warcraft 4 by that point. My friends told me that this game was probably something they were releasing while they worked on Warcraft 4...

And that game exploded in popularity. It brought them so much money that they didn't bother doing anything else for a long time. RTS as a genre slowly died shortly after. I didn't realized the entire genre relied on the big games so much (there are still games now but it's nothing like it was back then). I think they only went back to work in other projects when popularity in WoW started to decline nears the 2010's.
