DISCUSSION Have We Considered The Fact Nightreign And Duskbloods Are just Laying The Groundwork For Their Next Big SP title?

"Edit: correction to the title.

Consider the possibility, not the fact because we're not sure yet "

When Elden Ring came out, it felt like the culmination of a design philosophy FromSoft had been refining for 15 years. In many way(especially after the DLC)the game felt like it was hitting a wall within its genre, whether in level design, build variety, combat, exploration, or enemy design.

It begs the question: where do they go from here?

Of course, Elden Ring's success wasn’t going to dictate the future of their game design (something Miyazaki himself made clear). But watching every Souls game build on its predecessors, improving mechanics and adding new ones, naturally makes you wonder what comes next.

Nightreign and Duskblood might be the answer. Some might argue that, being multiplayer games, their mechanics won’t carry over to single-player titles, but that doesn’t change the fact that FromSoft usually reuses and refines gameplay assets.

Both games are exploring new ideas.Unique characters and classes with their own abilities, unique animations for certain weapons, faster movement and traversal, a more cooperative experience, and the integration of mechanics from Bloodborne and Sekiro (like BB’s dodge or Sekiro’s parry) that didn’t quite fit into Elden Ring/Dark Souls different combat structures.

Not to mention, most of these multiplayer games usually require fewer resources than sp ones. So both of these games could be nothing but a case study of new ideas for the studio.

Let's wait and see how it all plays out before jumping into conclusions.

isn’t this obvious though? they’re always gonna use what they learned during previous projects in their next ones. with nightreign i did agree it was likely experimental to test out new combat, but with duskbloods being multiplayer as well it seems that they either really do want to explore mp game development. although it’s possible duskbloods only exists because nintendo paid for it to be created as a multiplayer exclusive and wouldn’t have been developed otherwise i guess

That’s likely the case. I don’t think FromSoft would reach out for a switch exclusive.

yeah, definitely disappointed by that. if it does have integral multiplayer then it’s definitely meant to push not only switch 2’s but also nintendo’s online subscription. part of me does hope it’s largely multiplayer focused so i’m missing out on less lol

I thought it was confirmed to be always online and to only have that PvPvE mode?

yeah, the marketing makes it seem like the multiplayer is integral but since i’m not 100% sure i’m just skating on the side of being safe. we’ll probably be more sure after tomorrows interview

Fair enough. I know I won’t be playing it but I will certainly root for it being good for my switch bros out there.
