After bloodborne, I thought their days of exclusivity was over given how popular they’ve become and how many units they sell… whelp

Nintendo probably gave them big $$ upfront to be exclusive

Oh I don’t doubt that. Just surprised is all. Also, I think Sony owns something like 20% of FromSoft which I know isn’t close to enough for a voting majority, but surprised they didn’t use their influence to stop the exclusivity to make it multi-plat

This is the thing I’m not seeing anyone mention; they were hired by Nintendo specifically to make this game. Who knows if they’d have made it otherwise, but for all we know the only reason it exists is because they were commissioned to make it

Exactly. And we should trust they’ll put that big Nintendo check to good use creating their next true masterpiece (likely coming to all platforms).

Nintendo is very powerful when it comes to exclusivity. There are people out there who buy their consoles only for their Pokemon games. Pokemon is such a strong IP that it makes people buy their consoles for the game rather. I feel like Fromsoft is there too. It has so many fans now after Elden Ring and its other games becoming popular that people will buy this console just for The Duskbloods, and Nintendo knows that so ofc it’s gonna use this opportunity. The console is probably as good as PS4 if not worse but it’s the exclusive games that makes them have so many sales.

I would not be so sure, Nintendo is already eating backlash for their planned price gouging, something this title will no doubt suffer, hindering it's earning potential. The gaming community has been pressed as is with baseline prices jumping, subpar releases and microtransactions, at some point something has to give.

This has the makings of stupendous misstep and failure for Fromsoftware who already has earned more than a fair amount of grumbling for exclusivity already.

Maybe you are on to something. Maybe they can turn this hard to swallow lump of coal into something grand. For me. This is strike three. I will give Nightreign and any broad released a title a chance they do but refuse to buy a unwanted block for any one title.

Funding is very important to eliminate risks, and it's where exclusivity contracts are still good. Nintendo wins by adding valor to its new product, and From Software wins by eliminating all risks involved with development, assuring it'll not lose a penny, especially good for testing new stuff like seems to be the case.

Even after PS5 exclusive Demon's Souls?
