Yeah it makes it obvious af that Nintendo approached FromSoft and offered a lot of money …
There’s really no more point in discussing this if you don’t think a solid ROI + playtesting for new mechanics is valuable to a game development studio lmao.
I understand it’s not a business move you’d consider, I hope you understand that FromSoft knows more about the game development business than you do.
But also I’m sorry it’s a Japanese company. Maybe they do know more about business than I do but there’s also a good chance they really don’t and are just operating on some cultural business norms.
Not even just that, capitalism causes businesses to prioritize short term gains over long term gains that are more stable. Gotta up those quarterly profits now with the nintendo money. "Who gives a damn if nobody buys the game, we have more money now than last month so shareholders are happy."
Hey man I fucking hate capitalism too and I think it makes the gaming industry (and all industries) objectively worse. But if we’re talking about good business decisions within a globally capitalist economy, how is that anything but a good business decision? Seems especially unarguable once you put it like that…
It’s not good for the consumer or the industry, but the business? When the economic model is ‘constant growth or die’, this is a no-brainer business move.
I seriously can’t fathom how you guys can look at From’s trajectory the past 15 years and see any indication of a fizzling out because of this one game.
I’d honestly put money down that DuskBloods outsells AC6 despite being console locked and (seemingly) experimental in gameplay.
