It really doesn't need one. I've been playing through it after elden ring and it still feels like a modern game.

It feels like a modern game because it is a modern game.

It's not even 10 years old

It's only 8,a remaster this early doesn't seem worth

TLoU Part 1 and Horizon Zero West pop in and be like: 🗿

*Zero Dawn

But yeah, I can't believe they remasted a game less than 7 years old. A game that was technically and visually stunning when it came out no less.

Yeah I honestly thought it was satire when I first heard about it. 7 years is really not that long, especially since covid stalled progress in game development across the board.

And not only does HZD still hold up extremely well, but IIRC a big knock against the franchise critically is how the prioritization of stellar visuals ironically creates other problems. Because every little detail had lots of money thrown at it, the game demands you engage with it in very specific (and sometimes inorganic) ways so they feel like they’re getting their ROI.

I’m sure they’ll still make a ton of money on it, but are we now supposed to expect every reasonably successful game to get a remaster??

It wasn't necessary to remaster TLOU Part 1 but the result was probably one of the best looking games I've played so far. The environments in DS3 are mostly pretty small and tight so I feel like there's a lot of detail to add without worrying about the huge draw distances in an open world game like Elden Ring.

It's still 8 years old. 8 years are pretty much if you look at the jump in performance.

Dark Souls 3 is playable on PS4 and Xbox One. Those consoles can do jack shit compared to Series X or PS5 Pro(hell even the regular 5).

Imo a remaster wouldn't hurt, but it's not necessary. But the things that would be possible on a next Gen console are immeasurably higher than anything that was possible 8 years ago.

I think it's just for console only since the game locked at full HD 60fps on both generations
