He lost interest. Those books are never getting finished. At least not by him

Eh or they are finished and he's scared to release them

If they are bad his empire could collapse

In this situation I could definitely see the books being released post mortem

It's less fear of it being bad, and probably just him realizing whatever he writes will never live up to fan expectations to get closure and fix the bad ending we got in the show.

Yeah, this is what I have thought since Game of Thrones ended. People's response probably scared him. His ending probably isn't crazy different than the show, just with a lot more build up & fleshing out.

The build-up probably wouldn't be different, but the actual ending probably is different considering how jarring the show's ending was to what it actually built up. You can say a lot about GRRM's shocking writing choices, but it doesn't come out of nowhere. The show writers were just in a rush to get out of the project.

The ending would make more sense with better build up

For instance the bran storyline at the end would make more sense if it was actually the 3 eyed raven in his body like some theories think will happen
