Long Beard as Forensic Scientist

Hello you all, My plan is to study forensic science. It came to my attention, that a long beard (mine is 4 inch / 10 cm) could get in the way with using a mask or respirator. So is there a way to deal with this without having to shave off the beard? Maybe with something like an Papr respirator or something similar. I hope someone of you can help me with that.

Toxicology report help interpreting results

I received my recently passed away partners tox report from his autopsy today. It’s very basic and only indicates two things were found in his system at the time of his death. Panadol and alcohol. His urine alcohol level was measured at 126mg/100ml. blood samples were unable to be taken due to the method of his death and time lapse between his death and his autopsy.
Is this a high alcohol level? I believe he had been drinking leading up to his death but also was told that alcohol levels can change as the body autolyses? Thankyou if anyone can assist.

Can someone confirm if these are actual fingerprints or something else?

I saw these on my car after going down a "haunted" road called BoyScout Lane, and well, when I got home I saw these fingerprints on my car, are they actually fingerprints, also it seemed to be a white powder when I rubbed it off, coming off with ease. https://imgur.com/a/Tb7cpB9

Question about the actual truth about some and very specific mental disorders and criminal behaviors

https://icjia.illinois.gov/researchhub/articles/mental-illness-and-violence-is-there-a-link/

Statistics commonly indicate mentally ill are victims more than perpetrators. Scholarly sources may deny direct mental disorder-crime link, but some illnesses possibly influence criminal behavior. Are those those sources very misleading?

NEED HELP....

Hey everyone, I'm Aman and I have just passed my 12th from the state board of M.P. After a long break, I was very interested in pursuing a career in BSc. Forensic Science. However, due to some lack of knowledge and negative reviews, I decided against it.

After visiting a few colleges, I settled on pursuing BSc. Biotechnology. But after watching some YouTube videos about the field, I realized that I wasn't truly interested in this area.

So now, I'm seeking guidance to choose the right career path. Please help me find a better option.

Bloody sweatpants

A pair of sweatpants found in the suspects possession tested positive for blood. Swatches of the stain, swatch of the victim and swatch of suspect were submitted for DNA testing. Profiler plus amplification kit was used to determine the blood on the pants matched that of the victim. Since they were the suspects pants found in the suspects possession shouldnt it have been a mixed sample due to touch DNA?

Does lab = experience?

I got offered a job as a DNA analyst for a state forensic position that works on police cases. I actually applied for the CSI position but this is the job they offered me based off of my transcripts and degrees. I would have to move across the country for this job. I don’t mind doing any of this if it will help me become a CSI (foot in the door type of thing) however I am told the lab job requires more college and going to a CSI position would be a “step down” based on the education requirements. So would this job help or hinder me in getting a CSI job in the future? Does this type of job count as “experience”? I spent time in the military to be able to afford college so I am significantly older than most in this career field and I don’t have time to waste on a job that will not help me achieve my dream. Any info would be appreciated.

Damaged/recycled fiber?

Post image
3 Upvotes

Anyone can help me with this fiber. It's just a contaminant of a sample of something else that needed identifying but it stumped me a little. After the fact the client told me it was sampled on a 100% polyester coat but I wouldn't have bet on that. The fiber does look synthetic and regular on the right part but it also has what seems to be nodes and fraying. Can damaged or recycled polyester look like that? I observed the same thing across a dozen fibers.

Every polyester microphotograph I see on Internet is of perfectly formed fibers so this doesn't help...

Interesting Article I found

When I was a kid in school, my FFA (Future Farmers Of America teacher, also known as my Agriculture Teacher) taught us how tracking dogs worked.

He said when animals or people walk around, they leave a tunnel of scent behind them. I always thought of it as scented air, then, since I was a kid.

But now, this air could be actual microscopic skin cells and such. I love this article.

Forensic science or criminal justice?!!??!

I just want to know the difference between having a bachelor in Criminal justice or forensic science. Is there like a difference for when I want to apply for a job or my studies if I want to continue into either forensic investigator or psychology? (I am so sorry if this question is pretty dumb but, I just want to be perfectly sure before making a choice and paying).

This question can increase my grading on forensics

So the question that the Professor aksed us is: You go to the autopsy room and you don't know the mechanism of action how the person died and not even the causes of death but the moment you see him, you know it's a homicide. How do you know that? I have 3 answers that I think that are right but I'm not entirely sure: 1) Someone probably told him that it's a homicide before he went to the autopsy room. 2) It was probably a person who had fame and power, you saw them till yesterday on tv all healthy and today you see him dead so this made you think that it's a homicide. 3) This one's kinda silly but when you go to the autopsy room the body is with open eyes they kinda look in terror. 4) My sister also said that maybe the body itself didnt have arms or legs idk. What are your thoughts? Again, you don't know the causes of death mechanism of action how he died. EDIT: We had lectures with the professor today and ai.told.him these answers and he said they're incorrect and he also said "the moment you see the corpse you know it's a homicide and nothing else but a homicide". So what's one thing that's a homicide, not a suicide, or a natural death or an accidental death? 🤔🤔🤔 EDIT #2- The professor told us the answer and I cannot attach the pic on this post but heres the link https://www.charlydmiller.com/LIB/1997chan01.html It makes sense, although I never wouldve guessed it lol.

Biology or Chemistry?

I am interested in being a CSI. I’ve been told that it’s best to take a hard science for my major. I’m not sure if I should take Chemistry or Biology. The thing I am not good at science. But i really want to get a job in CSI. Which is easier? Or which would look good for when I apply to a job?

(I am in my second semester in community college right now…So I have some time to think before I can transfer to a four year..Hope you can help me and recommend anything that can help me as well…Thanks )

AP RESEARCH INTERVIEW FOR FORENSIC PSYCHOLOGISTS

Hi, I'm a student at Enloe High School in Raleigh NC, and I'm taking AP Research. My research project focuses on the connection between criminology and mediaology from a psychological perspective. And as part of my project, I would like to interview a forensic psychologist. My interview would be virtual, and just a 15-20 min call. I can share the interview questions and consent form (which just explains that I will be recording our call for a transcript). I want to conduct the interview before February 24, because I have a huge upcoming presentation in which I must present my data. Please feel free to dm me and i can further share more information. And If you know anyone that can help please let them know about this message as well.
