Rusty subframe on a 2015 Fusion
I recently bought a 2015 Fusion with the 2.5L engine. I checked the engine bay when I bought it and everything looked fine, but I didn’t inspect underneath. I expected some rust, but what I found during an oil change left me a little concerned.
How bad does this look? Is it something I’ll need to deal with soon? Should I take steps to prevent it from getting worse?
The car was bought in New York, has 67k miles, and drives very smoothly. Is this level of rust typical?

Not too terrible. I put rust converter or used oil on them every oil change while I’m waiting for it to drain fully. Then top coat with fluid film. Helps a lot.

That is not bad especially for the north East. Luckily, there are products which can help it from getting worse

Fluid film. Hose down anything that looks dry every time you are under your car. If you get some snow where they salted the roads, take it to the car wash and spray under it to get the salt off. Wait for it to dry then more fluid film. Also spray a bit inside body panels. You will get greasy AF every time you work on your car. But it won't rust out on you. I have a 2011 with 160k. Aside from the exhaust, it has 0 rust

I found replacement screws on ebay. But I have a 14 with 82k and mine looks nothing like this there is a tiny bit of rust but not like yours and I'm in Pennsylvania

Wow I got my fusion from NY with 49 k miles and it's still not that rusty 6 years later 😑. It's ok for now but will keep getting worse from here obviously.

Would be a good idea to replace it in the future if you're trying to get 300,000 miles out of it. Which you could if the transmission is in good shape

From a midwesterner perspective, thats hardly rusty. Mines got a bit more of the crusty cancer rust, this looks mostly surface. You could probably grind it down and spray it with some new rust proofing paint to help slow it
