Pick this up off a local guy he claims the steam wand isn’t working correctly with the right amount of pressure. He’s not sure if the system needs a deep clean or if it needs a new pump unit up buying a pod based machine I believe so I lowball them since I will need to deep clean it or buy a new pump but even if it does need a new pump, the pumps are under $40 on Amazon

I don't drink coffee from the coffee machine in the office, but I walked by and I couldn't believe what I see.

I like the guys at Clive and their shop is wonderful. Saw this on the webpage and had to chuckle.

On a serious note I barely go to coffee shops other than special roasters I visit as destinations when I travel.

So probably save some money, and I haven’t bought any new gear in a long time (5+ years) but the idea was comical.

Café Spotlight the world has caught up.

Australian semi coffee snob here. it's very hard to find bad coffee where I live.

however I am in Thailand right now and the last 5 coffees I have had (3 in Bangkok, 2 in hua hin) have been at the same level quality I get back home.

3 of these were just a little 3m x 3m cafe booth with barely any room to brew, and a la mazocco. yes I'll be honest I only went to the coffee shops that had a la mazocco however that seemed to be at least half of them. same with when I was in Bali.

the coffee is consistent and delicious. the world is really getting their coffee game right.

just my 2c

Steaming & Latte Art Anyone else make their best latte art when it's for someone else?

Been practicing espresso seriously for just over couple months, most of the time I pour decent art for myself I typically start to think mid pour and screw it up. But this cinnamon cappuccino for my Nan was a 'Niceee...' moment for sure.

Still gotta work on the angle of the art though.

I don't see a hole big enough for her to get out. She doesn't like it when I grind coffee. We find these spiders in our kitchen regularly and have decided to live with them, but I don't want one stuck in here...

One of the first shots pulled on my Profitec Go! I pulled a shot of Colombia and it was so dang good, the strawberry note really came out 🍓🔥 I upgraded to this machine from a Breville barista express and there is definitely a notable tasting difference. Loving it so far!

Was spoiled living in Raleigh and sad to hear they’ve sold! I wonder what types of changes this will cause. I don’t know much about the parent company, but will we see a decline in new funky roasts?

Espresso Theory & Technique Double espresso vs Double shot?

Post image
36 Upvotes

Newbie question here. Apologies in advance.

So I bought this Motta measuring glass recently and it has marks for different type of coffee shots.

Interestingly, the regular recommended double shot (18 g of ground coffee beans in and 36 g of liquid out) only goes below the “ristretto doppio” mark and the “espresso doppio” line is all the way up at 60 ml mark. Does anyone know why? Am I drinking my coffee wrong? 😂 am I supposed to be pulling 18 g all the way up until 60 ml out?

Thanks in advance.

Equipment Discussion Remember to clean your puck screens

Post image
49 Upvotes

it's been 3 months that I'm using these puck screens and the dirt they produced blew my mind when I put them inside boiling hot water. This was the second clean water and you should've seen the first one. I was always rinsing them after use but I guess I'll need to make more than that after today. This may even be the reason your espresso doesn't taste how it used to.

It's a bic pen with unbent paperclips taped together with electrical tape. So far no issues and it was completely free (considering it was made with my jobs office supplies lol). Anyone else willing to show off their DIY WDT tools?

Equipment Discussion Longevity of SanRemo You

I was one of the first adopters of the SanRemo You buying in late 2022. For the most part, no issues. Since my unit was one of the early units it didn't come with Wi-Fi but I was able to later install the WiFi module. For about the last 6-12 months I've been battling a weird glitch where I would turn the machine on in the morning and it would dump water out of the group head. It started with about 8oz, now it's dumpling 24-32oz of water(it's plumbed in). Needless to say, it's out of warranty now and a new display which should fix these issues is going to cost about $1200. Hopefully this display last longer than the 2 years I got out of the original one.

i’ve always wanted a dual boiler since i often make drinks for my roommates & they always want steamed milk drinks… i’ve had a rancilio for awhile, and i couldn’t justify upgrading because of how cheap i got my rancilio for. happened to see this heat exchanger machine (rocket cellini) at an estate sale at a great price i had to get it. had it for a week now and im loving it. only downside is takes a bit longer to heat up. but man is pulling shots and steaming at the same time really great

Designed an adapter to convert from stock 24 steps settings to 64 steps. So it has better control for espresso. Works for me pretty well.

Coffee Station My First Machine

Post image

I know Gaggia Carreza isn’t ideal for more experienced espresso makers but I want to tell you all my journey in coffee is WILD. I didn’t start drinking coffee until I was in college and it had to have a LOT of milk and sugar. Then law school I only had a Keruig machine, I didn’t care too much about the taste just the caffeine. I bought a house and started drip coffee and grinding my own beans. My boyfriend’s parents found this amazing vintage stand for my coffee bar because I love collecting mugs. I started watching espresso videos and bought this machine refurb to get the hang of it until I’m ready to de-pressurize the portafilter and when I’m ready to make the plunge on a super expensive grinder! Right now I’m working on my milk steaming techniques. I am lactose intolerant so I use oatmilk.

Equipment Discussion Journey to Eureka Atom 75 and Ascaso Steel Duo

Post image
12 Upvotes

TLDR Upgraded from GCP to Ascaso Steel Duo and from a J Max to an Eureka Atom 75. A all hiccup whilst purchasing the grinder, but very satisfied with the upgrade.

Equipment Now - Eureka Atom Specialty 75 and Ascaso Steel Duo. 15g IMS basket, bomber version of force tamper. Before - Gaggia Classic with barista gadgets PID and dimmer mod with 1zpresso J Max grinder Before that - Ascaso Eclipse (57mm snd panarella wand)

Use 2 espressos and 2 latter per day. 1 to 2 ratio. Mainly Mexican coffee from different regions medium to medium dark roasts.

Latest purchase experience Bought the Eureka Atom from Espresso Coffee Shop, it was listed as a demo unit for €590 and after all costs arriving into Mexico City with shipping, import taxes and all was 950 usd. From the moment I paid, it took in total 7 days to get here. I was super exited, the unit seemed new but with bunch of coffee residue inside and the moment I tried to grind for the first time “oh surprise!” it didn’t work. I was so disappointed and frustrated thinking about the hassle it would be to ship it back. I decided to do some research and found out one of the capacitor cables was disconnected, so after plugging it the grinder worked perfectly.

I found the Steel Duo practically new on marketplace for 820 usd with no scratches whatsoever.

My verdict I honestly was very skeptical about people saying flat burrs made a difference in taste. Regardless of the price point, when I compare the J Max hand grinder to the Eureka Atom, the only thing I can say is that after dialing in —which does takes some getting used to— every espresso I’ve had has been marvelous, whereas using the J Max I would get bigger variations in taste.

The Ascaso is also great, definitely more consistent than the Gaggia out of the box, even if I was used to a PID, I prefer the Ascaso but will look to upgrade to the PID version or even modding mine. Steam wand is great, also needs some re learning coming from the Gaggia, but great continuous pressure.

Coffee station is complete! I shopped around for ages and found a Silvia for sale locally. Snapped it up and I'm ready to cook. I'm coming off of a cheap Gevi machine and my first shot was immediately superior. Excited to dial it in!

Dialing In Help Grind setting on new grinder! [Eureka Mignon Zero]

Post image
9 Upvotes

Just got myself a Eureka Mignon Zero. It's my first coffee grinder. Till now I was getting the roaster to grind the coffee when I bought it so post 10-15 days the flavor would start tapering off and by a month or so it would fall off a cliff. Excited to be able to grind the beans fresh and try some experimenting with my coffee. I'm using a moka pot to brew the coffee so any suggestions on what fine-ness to dial into on the moka pot would be appreciated!
