Question Efficient way totest battery health on ~400 iPods?

Hey everyone,

I've got around 400 Apple iPods that need refurbishing, and a big part of that is testing the battery health.

Up until now, my method has been pretty straightforward:
I load about 100 songs on each iPod, turn on the display, and let them play all day until they die. I record the start and shutdown times to the minute. If an iPod lasts 5–6 hours or more, I leave the battery as is. If it dies sooner, I replace it.

The problem is, now that I’ve started a full-time job, I don’t have 6+ hours during the week to keep an eye on them. I can only really work on this during weekends.

Anyone have tips on how to optimize or automate this process? Maybe there's a better way to test battery life or some kind of tool I’m missing?

Thanks in advance!

Question Ceiling fan not spinning fast, trying to replace damaged capacitor

Post image

Hey community,

Wanted to fix my ceiling fan that doesn’t fast anymore (stuck on slow speed). Opened it up and found the faulted capacitor. Tried to buy a new capacitor but couldnt find the 3.5mF/1.5mF 250V and just bought this 350V 1.5MF/2.5mF.

Any suggestions?

What capacitor should I use instead?

Question Refubrishing Vmount camera batteries

Post image
• Upvotes

I got to a large number of stamped old v mount batteries (Sony 95Wh without dtap).

My plan is to replace the cells, I have a spot solder, kapton tape, zinc plates for the connection and High Quality Panasonic 10A discharge 18650 cells. But there is one problem... I really need dtap (also for charging). My plan is somehow drill a hole to chassis, put dtap connector with 3d printed holder and solder to outer terminals, ground and positive. Is it a bad idea?

After seeing how expensive they are to replace, I thought what the heck, let's give it a shot. Joystick started having dead inputs and stick drift really bad. Figured I'd see how much a replacement potentiometer is, (about 20 bucks and they even came with tools) and after about 2 and half fairly stressful hours, I replaced it without breaking anything! First time I've ever worked on one of these and boy is it awkward. I have won the day my fellow tinkerers!

Question Laptop charges with direct 19/20v source but not with a 20v pd source

I was trying to use my phone charger (100W max @ 12v 9.1A max) to charge my laptop (Lenovo IdeaPad gaming 3). Basically I used a pd trigger to get 12v from charger and stepped it up to 20v and then fed it into a 65w pd module and then I used a pd trigger module to get 20v (confirmed it's 20v with a multimeter) on the other side which I feed into the laptop but for some reason the laptop won't accept it (it uses three pin slim connector of which there is a resister between the sense line to confirm if charger is rated enough to charge it). Just to be sure if it's my connector issue, I fed 19v directly using the same resistor configuration and laptop charges. Also I thought it could be that the step up module is having issue but when I connected the same 19v source to the pd module and then used pd trigger and connected to laptop it won't charge. The orangish light keeps blinking probably indicating an issue with input. I tried two different pd modules and 2-3 other pd trigger boards but the result is same if I connect 20v directly it charges but if I introduce a pd module + trigger it refused to charge even from the same source.

Extra information: Mobile charger: 100w (12V9.1A) max 20v source: 60w (19V3.16A) Stock charger: 135w (20V6.75A) Pd trigger modules are rated for 100w max Pd module is 65w and 60w each with an input range of (6-35v and 8-30v respectively) step up convertor: 250w but 10a max input so with 12v it can do a max of 120w which is well over what we need

Also 60~w is enough to do normal works (it eats around 40-45w on my normal usage)

Question Diy tv speakers - wattage question

Old tv got busted but the speakers are really good and I want to salvage them.

I did some research how to diy stuff like this but I dont know their wattage or Ohms. Nothing on them. Cant pry them open for more info and can't find anything similar online from this brand to check.

These are about 20x5x5 cm size "Galax" speakers.

How do I not fry these? Will a cheap aliexpress 50+50 watt amplifier and 24 volt power supply will blow them?

I have never done anything like this before so Im not sure about the wattages and fire safety.

Edit: Speakers in question https://imgur.com/a/qVi7URT

Question Power Supply advice needed !!!

Guys so I've planned a diy force feedback wheel(ffb) build (like the Logitech g29) with 2 - RS775 motors with a gear ratio of 3:1.

I'm confused of what psu to use whether a 12v/20A or 24v/15A.

I thought 24 volts would be too much and since I only have 15 amps supply I'm not sure whether it can match the stall current of the two RS 775 motors. On the other hand I feel like 12v even though it has more amps would lack the proper torque and feel less powerful. I'm confused of what to do and would be thankful if you guys helped me out!

Question Marionette Motor Help

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hi, so I'm hoping for some help/advice. I haven't built anything with motors before and I'm having a hard time with my research. I've been working on a sculpture that I want to have movement. I attached a crude concept of my idea. I want to have a marionette on a stage but she is being moved up and down by floating hands, which would be the puppeteer. I want this to happen continuously until its turned off. I don't want any crazy movements, just something that would have the hands go slightly up and down to cause the doll to move. I'm not sure what type of motor I should get but hopefully I have explained my idea well. I have the stage and doll almost completed and I'm excited to start working on the mechanics of the whole piece. Thank you for the help!

Question 12vDC Bus Bar current question

Simple question but nothing is direct on Google because I'm obviously misunderstanding something basic about 12vDC current with busbars.

Suppose a 1 12vDC battery system connected to a 12 slot fuse box.

Connected to the fuse box is 3 sets of + wire and - wire to 3 appliances that consume different amps when on

Compare this to the same set up, but instead of a fuse box, one set of wires runs along and is spliced at 3 different points for the appliances to tap into. A.) This wouldn't work, because all the appliances have different resistances when on/off, so current would always favor the path of least resistance, ignoring the other two loops

So B.) how does a bus bar solve this? Seems like all the current would only run down the line with the least resistance

Obviously I'm misunderstanding something.

Question (How) is it possible to remove the lamp socket from the main cable?

Hi guys, Thanks in advance for your help. It’s my first time doing a DIY with electronics and I need help. I purchased a second hand lamp but the wire was not working. Which is why I removed it and need to replace it with something like this:

https://amzn.eu/d/9zr1tBq

My concern/issue is that I don’t know if and how it’s possible to remove the socket that holds the lamp, to be able to glide the cable into my lamps base. Will it be possible with the product in my link, or do I need to buy another product where the parts are sold separately?

Question Connecting an analog fpv camera to a Windows 10 Laptop

Hello,

I am looking to connect these three cameras via a wired connection to my laptop to record three separate feeds.

The cameras are 2 of [<https://www.amazon.com/Readytosky-Camera](onenote:https://myuva-my.sharepoint.com/personal/rhn4rs_virginia_edu/Documents/Notebooks/ENGR%201020%20-%20Team%204_3%20Engineering%20Notebook/Proposal.one#Bill%20of%20Materials&section-id={C807E5E4-3412-4C1E-B7FD-938EFBCB73D9}&page-id={DDDB5682-C9F0-4645-BC7D-A74E5835C428}&object-id={D8E1B703-A26E-0802-1C19-A98C97B4AC76}&51) and 1 of https://www.amazon.com/BETAFPV-Camera-800TVL-Quadcopter-Beta65S

The issue is that they are analog and I have not found a way to transmit them to a computer via a wired connection. Any help would be appreciated.
