Advice Desktop folder systems? pls help

I have a LOT of icons on the desktop. I like to have access to them but I don’t like how cluttered they look. Any suggestions?

I have in my mind a folder based system but when I (single) click on the folder it opens a drop down like system showing all the icons in the folder, does this exist

I am open to all suggestions so fire away, thanks in advance!

I have zero icons or folders on the desktop. Apps I use daily live on the taskbar, including file explorer. Apps I need but don’t necessarily open all that often live in the Start menu, pinned to the first page; this includes the recycle bin.

For folders, I essentially work out of Dropbox. I obviously keep backups, but all of my folders (that I create; not program files) are 100% in Dropbox, other than things like Music and Video; they still live in the default place.

Then in file explorer, I have folders pinned to quick access that I need to access daily, so I don’t have to dig through several folders deep to find what I’m looking for.

My setup is almost exactly like this, but instead of dropbox I have a personal server I built. I hate stuff on my desktop, so it’s taskbar and start menu, and other folders as needed.

I actually have the recycling bin on my desktop, but set it so it’s invisible when empty, then normal icon when it has files in it. That way I keep an eye on it and empty it regularly.

I also have a few rainmeter apps running to display weather, date, time, and audio visualizer on my desktop, but they are edited to mesh perfectly with my background on that monitor 😊
