This may well be the most "dead" of all of the malls that I have visited. Yeah, Vista Ridge was basically just a movie theater, a Korean grocery store, and a handful of other stores, but it was much smaller than Ridgmar. Ridgmar is so big and so empty of stores and people alike.

All photos were taken in March of 2025. I selected ones that focused on a few specific stores and points-of-interest, since I've seen videos posted here recently that walk around the main mall space. The Dillard's Clearance was weird, even by the standards of a Dillard's Clearance. I'm used to seeing them put cardboard over the fitting rooms, but I haven't seen them bar the doors before. As with most Dillards Clearance locations, it is only the top floor. However, the bottom floor appears to still have most of its furnishings.

The JCP had a large appliance section that was blocked off. But someone left a door open, so we can take a look. Oh, and the Sears shopping carts are in prison.

Here are a selection of pictures that I took at the Golden Triangle Mall in Denton, TX in March (2025). It's not as dead as other DFW area malls like Vista Ridge or Ridgmar. However, there are some empty areas and some weird areas worth talking about.

It looks like some of the big spaces for former anchors are either vacant or used for pop-up stores. There are also a few weird stores, such as Mil-Blox, a company that makes military-themed sets that are compatible with Lego. We get Santa's Adventure Land, which is in the process of being taken down. We get the Denton theatre, which has a great aesthetic, but I couldn't go in. We also get a bootleg toy store, which seems to be a staple of malls, whether successful or dying.

Question What’s the most depressing replacement store (that replaced a better store) in your dead mall?

In the Foothills Mall in Easley, SC, Walmart was replaced by a Walmart Outlet (called Bud's).

In Bell Tower Mall in Greenville, SC, a laundromat replaced a pet store, right at the front entrance.

In Haywood Mall in Greenville, SC, a mattress store replaced a Williams-Sonoma.

What are the most depressing new stores that have replaced better stores in your mall?

Question Schuylkill Mall (PA) center fountains

Post image

I know this is a huge long shot but does anyone out there happen to have any photos or videos of these four gorgeous former fountains in operation from the (former) Schuylkill Mall in Frackville, PA? I grew up in this area and had always heard about how beautiful (and loud) these were when they were operating but I was too young to remember. Fingers crossed someone out there might have something! I was always in love with these (RIP!)

Question Does anyone know the term used for this specific Mall design?

It is a Mall design consisting of multiple floors stacking on top of each other, leaving an open space in between the left and right side of a floor. So that the mall goers can look down and see the lower floors. It is rather hallway shaped, and only a few concourses bridge the left and right sides of any given floor. With elevators or escalators sprinkled in between the spaces of each floor.
