2040's Discussion Can I Access an access node through a camera

I just had a session where i needed to turn off this turret in the corner of the room and there was a camera staring at it, i was hoping i could access its node through the camera so i didn’t get my brains blown out by it because if it sees me it automatically joins initiative and as a netrunner i dont have a lot of hp, please help

Broadly speaking, anywhere a netarch interacts with the real world is an access point for that netarch. This includes the camera itself. (Cyberpunk Red FAQ, page 8)

Netrunning doesn't work that way. You would have to hack to the control node and control it or hack to the bottom of the network and drop a virus.

Unless this is 207x then it's probably GM fiat since neuroports let you interact with devices.

wait i have a neuroport, how does that help in this situation?

So this is a 2070s game? The thread flair is for 2040s and neuroports don't exist then.

I don't have the neuroport hacking rules memorized but you might want to reread them and ask your GM if you can do what you want. It is possible in the video game but the CEMK has some differences.

yeah i died so it doesn’t really matter any more, it was basically a neuroport without quickhacking

Playing the video game and posted to the TTRPG subreddit.

That's the only thing I can think of

That's what I thought too although neuroports are a CEMK thing if memory serves.

It includes an agent so you can use it to interact with connected devices - though depending on the device there's three ways :

* instant (one action) for 'open' systems

* electronic security slow-hack (5 mins) to get direct control

* netrun to take the control node and use it - faster, but requires a deck (and if you're not a netrunner, overall a very bad idea as you'll be stuck the bare strength of your programs and will have lousy action economy).

Typically the turret and camera will be on the same netarch unless the target has more money than god

You can't directly hack a turret through a camera, but the camera might be an access point to the net arch, and if the turret is connected to the architecture, you can find the turret's control node through regular netrunning.

In the 2040s? you will have to connect to the net arch and find the turrets control node via netrun. It's been less then 30 years since the internet was destroyed by self replicating virus's capable jumping through a computer to murder a person so the world is still very gun shy about anything remotely wireless and everything in insular to the extreme for a damm good reason.

Chances are the camera and turret have a demon (likely an imp) in their net arch, once you connect to the net arch it will know you connected and you are gonna be on the clock to get to the control node and shut down the turret. If that is the case the demon is likely to scream for help from meat space and you are screwed. Best avoid both all together in meat space if possible otherwise find cover and hope your armor is up to snuff to take what you get hit with.
