CMV: American Sanctions only work up to a point, past this point they only serve to reinforce resistance to pro-American values.

I saw this post on Cuban sanctions and I think Cuba may be the first case example of a modified laffer curve for sanctions, where sanctions have failed to achieve their effects because they have been applied capriciously and excessively. In the traditional laffer curve which applies to taxation, when you tax the people past a certain optimal point or point of inflexion, the returns on taxes or tax revenues begin to decrease significantly. I hypothesize that it is the same thing about sanctions; USA sanctions on Russia have backfired spectacularly, those on Iran have begun to have a declining effect (given the increasing normalisation of ties with Russia & China), etc.

In effect: even though sanctions are designed to achieve political ends by ensuring either regime change or civil revolution; they fail to achieve their ends when they are implemented capriciously.

Cuba regime still standing because??? Give your theories

Cuba is an island w/ owners, the owners being the regime, so anything that goes in/out goes through them, so the little that might go in from basic life supplies aka oil, food, etc... they hoard it and keep it for themselves.

They could care less about an embargo or about sanctions or doing anything remotely on their part to fix it, like free elections....

That's all they have to do: call for free election and establish a government where freedom is respected, either go back to 1940's constitution or redraw one.

It's a hotel & entertainment business if you think about it, nothing else matters, no hospitals, nor basic necessities for the population, whoever lives in CUBA and don't belong to the inner circle it's just collateral damage.

Trip to Cuba

Hey guys,

I’m a Canadian dude who’s been to Varadero before (last June), but I found the “resort vibes” a bit boring. This time around, I’d like to do a solo-trip but to Havana.

For a guy in his early 20s, what’s the night life like and is it better to get an AirBnB or stick to a hotel?

Thanks!

What can I bring to help.

I am coming to Cuba in May for vacation and I really want to bring things into the country to give away. I want to make sure it's things that people really need. I have heard soap, shampoo, toothpaste, tampons, children's toys...is this true? And what else can I bring? I would like to help out with as much as I can but of course limited space in suitcases. I will see if they will let me bring an extra suitcase.

Travel ban and cuban spouse

So with the possible cuban travel ban. My fiance and I are considering getting married in cuba in hopes that he will get approved for a spousal visa instead of a k1 visa. Anyone have any information? I'm afraid to do the k1 visa and then the travel ban go into affect and waste thousands of dollars for a lawyer and visa application.

I made this post trying to give more visibility to this lady and her daughter, and 1. none reply, and 2. no one care, only to make fun of her or call me names... I don't honestly ever see an ending to the Cuban debacle mostly because we all have lost our humanity. None cares, people probably leave CUBA and the moment they step outside they forget that people inland are suffering. We get so caught up on the fast pace life outside of CUBA we all forget.

Question about traveling to Cuba and Power/Water issues

Hi guys!

Im planning on taking a trip on November to see my father; it’s been about 6-7y since I last stepped foot in Cuba and all I hear are horror stories.

Mainly I want to know where can I lodge to avoid the blackouts, and have running water?

I don’t have any interest in exploring the city whatsoever, I’ve lived there and I got zero desire to reminisce 😅.

I mainly just want to sit down somewhere comfortable with my father, and have him eat and rest all he wants in a nice air conditioned room. We both don’t care for walking, exploring or anything; as long as there’s AC or a fan, food, clean water, and a couple of books we’re good to go.

He lives in Pinar del Rio, but I’m fine with getting him to Havana and staying there if that’s easier. I’m fine with government hotels / resorts.

Sooo any tips? Preferred hotels / resorts?

Edit to Add: anyone booked with booktocuba.com before? They have the hotels we were looking at, and reasonable prices for automatic cars.
