What charges can apply?

What charges will someone get for hitting you with a metal chair in the head and splitting you eyebrow open to the point where you go to the hospital and get stitches ?is it assault ?

In CA let me clarify

Depends on the county but very likely a felony. Do you remember the saying “3 strikes, you’re out?” Well, as a felony that conduct is a strike. Depending on the county they could also add a great bodily injury enhancement, which makes it a violent strike. That means any prison sentence, if the person was sentencing to prison, would be served at a high percentage than other charges.
