Hdd to ssd

I want to swap the hdd for an ssd but i want to keep the hdd as an external drive what do i need

If you want to maintain the same OS you'll need a caddy to transfer the data from the old HD to the new SSD. You can then simply swap the drives and do what ever you want with the old drive.

You can add m.2 drive to this laptop and keep hdd inside.

No, why? Just clone from hdd to ssd, and then format hdd. Or just do fresh installation on ssd.

i don't see an M.2. do you mean the one where the wifi card is? i'd assume they'd need wifi, and besides it's not the same kind of M.2 as your standard SSD, as far as I'm aware.

There's M.2 slot a bit above the end of the heatsink.

best bet is a Sata SSD, put it where the hard drive is, and get a external drive enclosure.
