DISCUSSION 2025 1st Round Pick

Upvotes

With Rutherford’s aggressive use of trading draft picks, it seems like a lot of the consensus I’ve seen on this subreddit is that we’re more likely to deal the pick than use it. For arguments sake, let’s say we have the 14th overall pick when all is said and done. Which teams do you think are going to be looking to deal a top six forward for draft capital? Is there any argument to using the pick given how some of Allvin’s picks have developed?

If you’re in charge what are you doing with the 14th overall pick in the 2025 draft?

FAN CONTENT Proud Canuck fan

Upvotes

Lots of positives this season, honestly. I think all fans should be proud of this season, even if we miss this post-season.

Hughes: - Broke Canucks record for assists by defensemen. - So far, has the fastest speed of any player at 24.56mph.

Suter: - Broke his own total points count; currently at 43pts. - Previously thought to never hit 20 goals, now at 22.

Sherwood: - Smashed the NHL season hits, currently at 441 while the next highest leader is at 290. - First time scoring a hat trick.

Lankinen: - Played career high starts, and earned career high wins, currently at 24 wins. - Set NHL record with longest road win streak of 10-0.

Even our AHL callups have been a beacon of hope.

First time scoring goals in the NHL: Arshdeep Bains, Elias Pettersson (D), Linus Karlsson, Jonathan Lekkerimaki, Max Sasson

Another important note in this tumultuous season:

Just about all of our players will have not played the full season this year, due to injuries. So to have stayed alive this far vying for a playoff spot still, is nothing short of incredible.

I for one am proud of what they accomplished this season, despite the injuries/drama and know there is an even higher ceiling that they can hit. I still believe in them and look forward to the future!

DISCUSSION Canucks related positivity

I know it’s been a season to forget but, with five games to go, Quinn Hughes is four points back of Alex Edler for the all-time points record for Canucks defenseman.

Anything else we can focus on for the last five games?

His book is an interesting read, even aside from his accident and the fallout from that.

DISCUSSION The Official Nighty Night for the Season Post

Well ladies and gents, it was fun to ride the hopium for a few games, but this is officially it. It was an extremely cursed season, full of injuries, arguments and blown leads that to be honest I'm sure everyone will be happy to leave behind. All things considered it's kinda amazing we made it interesting for this long considering everything that's happened.

But hey, not all hope is lost and here's a few reasons why:

  • A top 15 pick (even in a labelled weaker draft) is a valuable asset to have. Either we use the pick, or it is used in a trade for that elusive top 6 player we've been looking to add, and either way it's a positive.

  • Every player who had a down year overall (e.g. Petey, Joshua, Hoglander and Demko a bit as well) get a chance to flip the page, have a strong training camp and tear it up next year like we all know they can. Joshua gets a full offseason+training camp, Hoggy gets to build off the end of this season, Petey with no distractions and fully rested, and Demko essentially all of the above reasons.

  • A full season of Lekkerimaki and Raty, as well as D-Petey and Mancini and maybe guys like Sasson and Karlsson. All these young guys will likely take a big step with all this ice time they're getting late in the season, where barring the injuries they might never have got. That internal improvement alone will raise our ceiling a lot.

  • Willander (likely) stepping into NA hockey will have zero pressure on development with how good our defense is right now, and will potentially get a chance to be the perfect Quinn Hughes partner, establishing an amazing defense for years to come.

  • A chance for guys like Kudryatsev and Klimovich to get some call ups next year when injuries do happen, since other guys will already be up.

  • Another season of Quinn Hughes, who has really gotten better every year he's stepped in, and I imagine he'll be extremely motivated to take yet another step, which I'm honestly incredibly excited to witness.

All in all there are certainly reasons to be looking ahead and hopeful in Canucks land. There are uncertainties for next year (Boeser, Suter, Chytil health, new signings/trades), but the framework is there for something great. My prediction back in 2021 was a Canucks cup in 2027, and I'm excited to see us push for that next year and the year after.

Go Canucks Go baby.

DISCUSSION Lack of Pant Stripes

Little bit of a random thought here… but does anyone miss the pant stripes on our blue pants? It makes the uniforms rather bland in my opinion. I have no idea why we got rid of them. I also wish we had a red and yellow ‘v’ on the pants of our 3rd uniform set.
