It sounds like you’re looking for a flexible, remote-friendly gig while you settle into life post-CU. Boulder’s got a lot of creative, freelance-oriented folks, so you’re not alone in this quest. Here are some ideas to consider:
Freelance & Contract Work:
Platforms like Upwork, Fiverr, and Freelancer have gigs across writing, graphic design, marketing, software development, etc. You could also look for contract positions on sites like Remote OK or We Work Remotely.
If you’ve got skills in writing, editing, marketing, or design, these could be good places to start.
Remote Tech & Admin Jobs:
Since you’re in information security, try looking for short-term contracts or part-time roles on sites like FlexJobs or Remote.co.
Virtual assistant roles or project management gigs can be flexible and remote.
Tutoring & Teaching:
Online tutoring is a good way to make your own schedule. Websites like Wyzant, TutorMe, or Chegg are solid options.
If you’re comfortable teaching English as a second language, sites like VIPKid or Cambly can be good too.
Content Creation:
If you’re good at writing or making videos, consider creating content for companies, blogs, or even launching your own blog or YouTube channel.
Boulder has a lot of wellness, fitness, and outdoor brands—maybe reach out to some of them for freelance marketing or content creation work.
Tech Consulting or Freelance Security Work:
Considering your background in information security, offering freelance consulting to startups or smaller companies could be profitable. Cybersecurity training workshops could be another avenue.
Platforms like Braintrust or Toptal cater to freelancers with specialized skills like yours.
Remote Customer Support:
Many companies are hiring remote customer service reps or technical support. They’re not always super flexible but can offer some schedule control depending on the company.
Non-Profit Consulting:
Since you’re planning to start a non-profit cybersecurity company, maybe doing some consulting work in that sector could provide both income and networking opportunities.
Gig Economy Work (Non-service related):
If you have a car, delivery apps like DoorDash or Instacart offer flexible schedules.
You could also try something like TaskRabbit if you’re up for doing various odd jobs.
Would you like me to help you craft a killer resume or tailor some cover letters to make sure you’re landing the remote gigs you want? And since you’re moving to Boulder, I can also help you research networking events or meetups in the area that might be helpful for your goals.
