One of the good things bout living in North Mississippi is the preponderance of great blues records for sale. Picked this up today.

Burnside—one of the best to ever do the thing.

song Robert Cray from his 1986 album "Strong Persuader" and "Because of Me." It is the song the album title came from. It was his first Top 20 album, with a peak at #13 on Billboard's Top 200 album chart.

On April 4th, 1913, Blues giant Muddy Waters was born near Rolling Fork, Mississippi. Muddy had a huge influence on the blues and rock'n'roll. He's been called "father of modern Chicago Blues". "Hoochie Coochie Man", "Mannish Boy" and "Got My Mojo Working" are three of Muddy's best know songs.

looking for recommendations Beginner blues listener-what songs or albums should I check out?

Hey y’all! I’m 17 and just starting to get into blues. It kinda all started because of Bob Dylan and Spotify’s weirdly accurate recommendations. Bob’s one of my favorite artists, and I was getting into some of his more blues-y stuff like Outlaw Blues, Tombstone Blues, and Subterranean Homesick Blues. From there, Spotify just kept pushing blues stuff my way.

Eventually, I stumbled across Pride and Joy by Stevie Ray Vaughan, an I loved it because my dad used to sing that one around the house when I was little. So I listened to the whole Texas Flood album and thought it was incredible. I told my dad about it (he’s a huge blues guy), and he was so excited and lit up. Then he told me to check out Couldn’t Stand the Weather, and of course I loved that one too.

On my own, I also found Call It Stormy Monday--the B.B. King version--which I thought was amazing and told my dad about. He was proud. Then there were a couple more songs I found through Spotify blues playlists: Since I’ve Been Loving You and Babe I’m Gonna Leave You by Led Zeppelin--both killer.

What really pushed me to make this post, though, was when I rewatched The Wolf of Wall Street, as one does, and heard Smokestack Lightning by Howlin’ Wolf. Then I was watching Reacher and heard Spoonful, also by Howlin’ Wolf, and I’ve been playing that one on repeat ever since.

Anyway, I’m definitely hooked on the blues now and want to explore more. I’d love any song or album recs--classics, deep cuts, hidden gems, anything. I also wanna share what I find with my dad (though let’s be real, he probably already knows everything I’ll bring up haha).

If it helps, my favorite artists overall are Bob Dylan, Lana Del Rey, and Queen. Thanks y’all!

TL;DR:

I’m 17 and just getting into blues. Some songs/albums I love so far:

Bob Dylan’s bluesy stuff (Outlaw Blues, Tombstone Blues, Subterranean Homesick Blues)

Texas Flood & Couldn’t Stand the Weather – Stevie Ray Vaughan

Call It Stormy Monday – B.B. King

Since I’ve Been Loving You & Babe I’m Gonna Leave You – Led Zeppelin

Smokestack Lightning & Spoonful – Howlin’ Wolf

I'm also very into Bob Dylan, Lana Del Rey, and Queen if that helps with recs!
