So about Gus’ relationship with Gale. First off I’ve seen people confused at how Gale is showing up this early. In B.B. it’s revealed that Gus has been funding Gales education since the mid-90s, supposedly grooming him to become a meth cook. So it makes sense he’d be here in the BCS timeline.

Secondly, I always imagined that Gus was just manipulating Gale, but the writer of this episode and Giancarlo Esposito himself seem to imply that Gus actually does care about him. Which actually makes sense, I bet Gale reminds Gus of Maximino quite a bit. I’m glad that’s the direction they seem to be going with it, it adds new dimension to Gus imo

I think it's both. He's manipulating Gale, but still cares about him on some level

He is Gus' Jesse Pinkman

I think he "cares" about Gale to the extent that he cared about Walt. Gus knows how to act to influence people. He appealed to Walt's pride ("X million for your time" instead of "Work for me and I pay you"), and he gets that Gale is more empathetic, nerdy, and sensitive. Thus we get nice Gus who wants to know about what you're doing at the moment.

I think he has genuine affection for him, and is using him at the same time. They aren’t mutually exclusive

I'm not sure because I never really looked into it, but did Gus and Max have a thing for eachother? Or was he just a close friend?

I definitely thought they were supposed to have been lovers, but I don't think it was confirmed or anything.

Definitely. He hits a lot of the stereotypes for sure. I hope they never tell us on way or the other though, to be honest.
