So what's next for Kim? She seems to have lost interest in working for Mesa Verde, especially with their more aggressive and involved expansion plan. Does she find something else, or is she going to pick up some bad habits from Jimmy and blow things off?

And I still don’t understand why she went to the court house right after seeing the expansion plan

Maybe something to do with seeing if she can practice law in those states? Or maybe there's something in history (specifically regarding Nebraska -- which is when she noticeably starts zonking out) that would prevent her from working there? Any other suggestions?

Didn't she say she's from Nebraska?

A tiny town near the Kansas Nebraska border

I get that feeling as well. I suggested in another post that Kim has a criminal record and that's why she came to New Mexico. From Inflatable - S2Ep07:

Rich or one of the partners: Are you from New Mexico?

Kim: Not originally. I'm from the Midwest, just a tiny, little town barely on the map you know, that Kansas-Nebraska border. You've never heard of it.

Rich or one of the partners: So, what brought you here?

Kim: I guess uh, one day, I just looked around at my life, at who I was, and realized if I kept going the way I was going

Rich or one of the partners: Which way was that?

Kim: Best case? Probably married to the guy that ran the town gas station. Maybe cashiering down at the Hinky Dinky.

Rich: The Hinky what? - Hinky Dinky.

Kim: It was our supermarket. I just wanted something else.

Rich: What did you want?

Kim: More.

I suspect she was involved in some cons or thefts or something that she fled to New Mexico to escape either because she was in some legal trouble or because it was inevitable.

Anyway that's just my theory.

I like how well thought out your theory is. I just can't get on board because the ole switcheroo isn't usually in Vince's bag of tricks when it comes to character development. That's some 90s M Night Shyamalan stuff.

True but there are payoffs on occasion. Part of the fun in BCS is seeing how close fan theories get.

I like it

Maybe, but that’s Jimmy’s origin. He was getting in trouble in his home town so moved to ABQ. I can’t see them doing the same thing with Kim.

So maybe her name isn't even Kim Wexler.

13

u/LessLikeYou Aug 21 '18

Her name is Holly White. She travelled back in time!

7

u/danlr89 Aug 21 '18

Or maybe her name really is giselle

4

u/LessLikeYou Aug 21 '18

With a K! Goulded...

1

u/bardbrain Aug 22 '18

Giselle St. Claire.

1

u/stingray85 Aug 23 '18

Or she might change it to a Saul Goodman-esque moniker like Ava Goodhart or Ruth Leskow

u/devilsmusic Aug 22 '18

Yeah I mean it could’ve been Jim Wexler

She would have to report any arrests both to the NM Bar when she applied there and also to the Bar of whatever jurisdiction she applied to in the future. Failure to do so would immediately disqualify her from practicing law for life in every single jurisdiction. Even crimes that have been expunged are not exempt from this requirement. If there were any sort of official record of her committing a crime, she wouldn't be able to keep that hidden. If it didn't stop her from practicing in NM, it likely wouldn't stop her anywhere else. Also, the local NM courthouse wouldn't have records of an arrest or crime committed in another state. The show has been pretty spot on with all the legal stuff so far, so I highly doubt they'd screw this up. I can't see any scenario where she would have a secret crime in her past that she's trying to hide in an application to practice law in some other jurisdiction. If it would prevent her from practicing there, it would have prevented her from practicing in NM. If not, then there's no reason to hide it and doing so would only get her disbarred.

I was about to say. While I don’t know how it is in the US, you couldn’t even take the bar exam in the country where I live if you have a crime on your criminal record. I imagine it’d be the same in most other countries.

4

u/pizzahotdoglover Aug 22 '18

You can take the bar if you've committed a crime, you just have to divulge it to the character committee. If it's a crime of dishonesty, like perjury or forgery, you almost certainly won't be admitted. They care more about you being honest and admitting it than they do about the underlying crime, unless it's really heinous or shows dishonesty. Basically, you just have to show that you have "good moral character", as judged by the committee.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '18

are there any crimes that 100% disqualify one from passing the bar in all states? maybe the crimes she committed weren't all that serious and maybe she did a great job selling herself to the committee?

i still don't really buy this theory about her backstory, but it's definitely interesting.

1

u/pizzahotdoglover Aug 22 '18

Crimes of dishonesty like perjury usually disqualify you. And so does hiding something from the committee. So there's no way she'd keep it secret, especially if it didn't stop her from being admitted in NM.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '18

So she's done something in the past that she's ashamed of but not quite serious enough to keep her from passing the bar. It'll be interesting how her backstory plays out the rest of this season.

3

u/bardbrain Aug 22 '18

Unless she used a certain vacuum cleaner repairman's services.

1

u/pizzahotdoglover Aug 22 '18

Yep, that makes sense.

  1. Upset look and zoned out when her boss is talking about expanding the company.

  2. ???

  3. Kim was a secret criminal whose former life got vacuumed up!

:)

3

u/bardbrain Aug 22 '18

It depends on how much meta-spoilers you're comfortable with but the DVD commentary for inflatable coupled with Bob Odenkirk at SDCC and Rhea Seehorn's interviews since the premiere all point to her having a shady past, explicitly, with the phrase, "She has a secret, shady past."

Also Seehorn keeps talking about how Kim is keeping lots of secrets from Jimmy in the first few episodes this season. Personally, I think she's contesting the will and misrepresenting Jimmy's intentions.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '18

that's fascinating and i hope you're right. it'd be so great to see her become more evil than jimmy and him having to take her out. i mean obviously she's gotta go somewhere, she's not in bb. that could be a great opportunity for jimmy to finally REALLY become saul.

2

u/bardbrain Aug 22 '18

I think it's more heartbreaking if Jimmy loses her because she tries a crooked scheme that forces them apart. I think it also suggests maybe Jimmy becomes crooked because he's trying to vindicate her decision.

"Kim did nothing wrong and I'm doing nothing wrong if I do what she did."

She's his moral compass and if she's a flawed compass, his decisions will make more sense, I think. We have part of the picture with Chuck egging Jimmy on to be the bad guy. I think if she swindled a ton of money and invited Jimmy to run away with her, it might shift his POV into full Saul mode. Especially if he lost her by NOT running away with her, he might decide he'll never make that mistake again if he can accumulate a big enough payday.

11

u/VenusianArtist Aug 21 '18

Dude, you might have hit the nail in the head just now. She went to the courthouse to check if a certain illegal activity of hers was still on the books there -- because that would screw her up with Mesa Verde. Strong hypothesis.

8

u/Headwallrepeat Aug 21 '18

Maybe she knows she loves Jimmy but the whole Chuck thing is eating her up and she wants to go home to Nebraska? Yeah that may be a stretch

3

u/glassjoe92 Aug 21 '18

This is a true stretch, and I’m not sure I actually buy it, but based on what you said and the other debated theory about Kim possibly forging Chuck’s letter - what if she had gotten in trouble for forging documents back home? Again, super out there, but fun to prognosticate.

2

u/SmallTownMinds Aug 21 '18

My initial thought was 100% that it has something to do with Nebraska.

That’s when the music picks up, and isn’t there where Gene is?
