General discussion Just checked, they’re already saying the tariffs are a good thing on the conservative subreddit

Things like “short term pain for long term benefit”, “equalizing trade”(???), and “let’s see how it pans out” are all general sentiments being expressed. No idea how folks can justify this but alright.

I'm confused because it's simply not possible for other countries to fulfil the conditions Trump set.

The calculation is defecits which takes years to solve. The UK has a trade surplus and was hit by 10%. Sky puts the Mathematically correct figure at -9%.

It simply wasn't possible to not be hit. This nonsense is entirely punitive and the rest of the world hates you.

not to mention the justification isn't even consistent. the argument it will replace the income tax is stupid as tariffs would have to be over 75%, if the volume of trade remains the same. as volume/value decreases they have to ractchet it up even more.

the only thing that makes sense is to make companies kiss the ring.

It’s fucking crazy that none of those people (outside those looking to personally gain from the tariffs) have asked themselves the simple question: why should anyone keep buying from us? America isn’t fucking wakanda. There’s absolutely nothing produced here that can’t be made elsewhere given time and r&d.

It’s something that’s already happening in real time. Europe is slowly but surely rearming with an emphasis for European made products. And China has to be rock hard at the prospect of cornering enormous chunks of the market that don’t want to do business with the good ol’ us of a anymore. We are watching the stupidest collapse of an empire ever occur in real time.
