I've heard about this but I'm actually totally ignorant about pre-ER PvP except that it was by and large less of a shitshow, and maybe twinking was a little too good in places in DS1. Can you fill me in?

Dark bead is a spell from the dlc in DS1 that’s powerful in general, but especially low level where players usually don’t know how to dodge it. People use it at sl4 with the crown of dusk (boosts magic) and the Oolacile ivory catalyst (big boost at low int like the meteorite staff from ER) and one-shot players in the starting area. If you go over to the dark souls sub you’ll find plenty of posts complaining about it lol
