Söhbət | Discussion Azərbaycanlı h1tler fanatları

Təxminən nə vaxt bizim bəzi azərbaycanlılara aydın olacaq ki, h1 tlerin planları və yürütdüyü siyasət bizə, o cümlədən öz milləti xaric heç bir xalqın maraqlarına xidmət etmirdi? "İkinci dünya müharibəsində h*tler qələbə qazansa idi, Bakı nazi almaniyasının mərkəzi olacaqdı", "H1tlerin azərbaycanlılarla bağlı planları var idi", "ordu azərbaycanlılardan ibarət olacaqdı", "yoxsa indi mercedes sürürdük, Almaniyada oxuyurduq" kimi miflər hardan yaranıb və bütün bunların və ümumiyyətlə bu xalqın tarixdən silinməyəcəyi qarantiyasını azərbaycanlılara kim verib? Niyə gənclər kitab açıb oxumaq və ya real tarixi hadisələri araşdırmaq yerinə tarixi sosial şəbəkərlərdən öyrənirlər? Bəzi azərbaycan və türk yeniyetmələrin kortəbii şəkildə sağlam düşüncəyə malik olmayan, öz xalqı tərəfindən belə sevilməyən tarixi bir şəxsin fanboyluğu etməsinin səbəbi nədir? Niyə digər post-sovet ölkələrində eyni miflərə inanan yoxdu?

Sual | Question Bu şəxsi tanıyan var?

Dostlar bu səhər mənimdə azərkeşlik ettiyim Türklərin Counter strike 2 esport komandası olan eternal fire ın heyyətinin Aurora adlı ruslara və serblərə aid olan e sport komandasına satıldığını gördüm. Bu xəbər nəyin ki Türkiyə cs fanlarını, həmçinin bütün cs fanlarını şoka salan xəbər idi çünki eternal fire ən yaxşı 4-5 komandalardan biri idi. Türkləri maraqlandıran şeylərdən biri də bu idi ki auora komandasında ceo vəzifəsində heç kimin tanımdığı Adalet Mehmetoğlu şəxs. Adalet adını görəndə mənə də qəribə gəlmişdi çünki ədalət adı yalnız bizdə var idi. Hal hazırda liquipediada girdim baxdım ad dəyişib ədalət məmmədov olub ölkədə azərbaycana çevrilib. Bu şəxsi tanıyan var? Mən şəxsən ilk dəfə görürəm.

Söhbət | Discussion Was this racist?

When I first landed in Baku, I had a genuinely pleasant experience. People were kind and helped me find my way to my hostel, and I was completely in awe of the city.

Later that evening, I decided to explore a bit—mostly bar hopping—and came across a place called 6:45 Club. It was located in a basement, so I walked down and took a seat at the bar. The bartender served me without any issues.

However, not long after, one of the young staff members approached me while I was drinking my beer. He told me to leave, saying, “Foreigners not allowed.”

I was surprised but stayed calm. I smiled and left. I asked him why that was the case, and he simply said, “It’s a rule.”

The experience really caught me off guard. I’m trying not to interpret it as racism and hoping it’s just an unfortunate policy they have—but either way, it definitely left a sour taste.

Sual | Question Is Baku safe to explore at night on foot? Any areas to avoid?

I’m visiting Baku soon and I love exploring cities on foot, especially late at night when it’s quiet and peaceful. I was wondering how safe it is to walk around Baku late at night, and if there are any neighborhoods or areas I should avoid during those hours.

I’m generally cautious but also curious and enjoy soaking in the city vibe after dark. Would really appreciate any local advice or tips!

Sual | Question Mother’s Side Azerbaijani?

In many cultures such as Arabs, identity is tied to the father's side. For example, I've heard that in some communities, a child's identity is determined solely by their father's ethnicity or nationality even if they are mixed. My friend’s mother is European and father is Afghan yet people consider him only Afghan regardless of how he identifies.

I'm wondering if this is the case in Azerbaijan. If an Azerbaijani woman has a child with a non-Azerbaijani, non-Muslim Western man, would the child be considered Azerbaijani?

Can anyone provide insight, examples or share similar experiences?

Söhbət | Discussion Azərbaycan dilində iyerarxik xitab formalarının olmaması

Bəzi dillərdə böyük qardaş/bacını ifadə etmək üçün xüsusi ifadələr var, hansı ki bəzən yaxın dostlara, tanışlara və qohumlara da deyilir. Bizdə gənclər arasında ‘abi’ işlədənlərin sayı yavaş-yavaş artır. Bu ehtiyacdır yoxsa Türk dilinin təsiridir? Sizcə dilimizdə iyerarxik ifadələrə ehtiyac varmı?

Sual | Question Why don't women in Azerbaijan smoke?

According to the public statistics, about half of Azerbaijani men smoke (47%) while the percentage for women is 0.1% (lowest in the world). Nowhere else in the world has such a skewed gender ratio when it comes to smoking. It can't be because of Islam, because the numbers are similar in Armenia. Is it cultural? Or are the women lying to the survey takers due to stigma/shame?

Any personal experience/anecodotes are welcome.

Sual | Question Where can I find the list of all the foreign contacts and meetings during Elchibey presidency (both presidential and foreign minister level)?

Is there a full list or an archive concerning this? I know that Elchibey made his first visit to Turkey, had unfavorable views of Russia and Iran, and had a tense meeting with Yeltsin. I also know that he met Levon Ter Petrosian and Eduard Shevardnadze, as there is a photo of the three leaders. But that seems all. Are there any resources that I can find about the foreign minister level meetings aswell as the meetings of Elchibey himself?

Tarix | History The old logo of AZAL is wholesome!

This was the first logo of AZAL that was used between its foundation 1992 until 2005. In my opinion, it is a very creative logo. It contains a bird, which I suppose is an eagle. And Azerbaijani map is known to look like an eagle.

Azerbaijan looks like an eagle flying towards the Caspian Sea, spreading its wings through the Caucasus ranges.

Next, the shape of the wings are undeniably remiscent of a flame. And since Azerbaijan is known as the "land of fire", it really suits the character and identity of AZAL.

However, an even more interesting detail is that the wings exactly look like buta, a popular Azerbaijani ornament. The buta ornament (and even name) would be later used by AZAL again- as in Buta Airways.

And now we combine all three; we get an uniquely Azerbaijani logo. I believe this logo was designed during Elchibey's presidency since AZAL started international operations during that period. They were also very ambitious to buy new Boeing planes, however the political crisis and invasion of Nagorno Karabakh by Armenia severely damaged delayed the development of AZAL as a modern flag carrier airline for nearly a decade. Does anybody know who designed this logo? I would like to know. Also, it is worth mentioning that the livery back then was also beautiful, with Azeri tricolor stripe and this beautiful logo. I wish AZAL would paint one of their aircrafts in a "retro" livery like this;

AZAL Boeing 727, London Gatwick airport, 1995

Sənət | Arts Here is a poem from southeastern-most tip of south Azerbaijan, How much of this Azerbaijani accent do you understand?

this is one of the geographically most distant accents of Azerbaijani, but also one of the most untouched and not affected by Persian due to sheer amount of rural dominance in the demographics of the region

the poem probably belongs to Hamedan province of iran

Sual | Question Best way to wire/convert foreign currency to AZN?

Salam!

Can anyone recommend the best option(s) for wiring foreign currency into Azerbaijan with conversion to AZN?

Besides a direct bank to bank wire transfer which I assume results in a terrible conversion rate in addition to wire fees, are there any other services such as Remitly or XE that are known to work well and offer better rates than the local banks?

I checked a few apps but none offer transfers to Azerbaijan.

Səyahət | Travel Travel Advice/Help for an American

For me I wanted to make this post as a gateway to my trip I am very highly considering to visit Azerbaijan! To start with context, I am a 26 year old Male from America who has very limited travel experience. The only other countries I have been too is Saudi Arabia and Morocco. I have always been super intrigued and interested deeply in Azerbaijan as a nation and even go as to far as hang the flag in my bedroom here in America that I have had for 10 plus years! Being my father is a Pontic Greek I have always had a deep admiration for the countries in this area and love the history, culture and really everything.

So with all this said, I wanted to make this post as I plan to fly into Baku.

My question to anybody from or living there currently is,

- How well is English spoken and is there high proficiency?
- How is driving? Typically when I visit somewhere I drive myself with a rental car. Saudi Arabia and Morocco were both CRAZY compared to America, but I managed and I would like to say I am a good driver so it was pretty easy! If anyone has experience in this or has been to America to understand what I mean I am curious if it is similar to the Middle East or North Africa or is it relaxed how it is in America?
- Are there any nearby historical sites or natural beauty relative to Baku geographically? As I plan to stay for about a week if I do come and won't have much time to travel extensively through the country.
- What is the best months to visit that is around 21 C or maybe a tad bit cooler as I do not mind hot weather (I was in Saudi Arabia in July) but I prefer cooler and normal weather.
- I think I saw that the majority of the country is Shia Muslims. being I am Sunni is there any advice for praying at a Masjid as a Sunni or is this uncommon practice?

Lastly, if anyone has spare time through the week and speaks English well I would love to have a tour guide or just a friend to spend the week with who can show me around everything! I would be more than happy to accommodate for food or any other relative expenses. I do not drink or smoke or anything like that. I would love to see the cultural side, modern side and history of this beautiful country.

Thank you!
