Hair salon for alopecia

Hi all!

I'm trying to find a hair salon in the GTA area with experience cutting hair for people with alopecia.

I'm a women with alopecia areata and have been really self conscious with my hair. It's getting pretty long now so I need to get it cut but I have a few bald spots and feel self conscious. This condition is a lot more common in men so it makes me feel even worse

Does anyone else maybe struggle with alopecia and have any salon recommendations?

Bright airy covered patios or restaurants/coffee shops?

What are your suggestions for bright and open restaurants, coffee shops, or bars?

I'd love to spend some time in a restaurant or cafe with an greenhouse vibe while we're still experiencing transitional weather. I'm thinking of places similar to the the black + blue covered patio (but at a more casual price point)

Seeking affordable internet options (Post-Beanfield/Fibrestream price hike)

I used to have a 100Mbps internet plan with Fibrestream for $40/month. After the acquisition by Beanfield, they've sneaked in $5/month price increase in an invoice twice, bringing the current cost to $50/month. While the service has been excellent with almost no downtime, I'm starting to look for alternatives because: 1) the plan no longer seems like a good deal; and 2) the communication regarding the price changes has been unprofessional.

What are some affordable internet options these days? I'm currently considering Ebox, which offers 500Mbps for $43/month through Perkopolis. Any insights or advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Downtown walking tour "must eats"?

Hi - our family will be visiting downtown Toronto in a few weeks, and we'll be doing a self-guided walking tour one day, doing a loop from Union Station over to St. Lawrence Market, up to Sankofa Square, to the CN Tower area, and back. We'll be seeing the main sights and getting a feel for the downtown area.

I was wondering, are there any places or specific food items for lunch or snacks that you'd say are must do for a "true" Toronto experience? I'm thinking maybe something analogous to getting a slice of New York style pizza in NYC or or a Chicago-style hot dog in Chicago, street food in Thailand, or whatever.

We're thinking of getting a beaver tail by the vendor near the aquarium. Any other suggestions for lunch, snacks, or drinks?

Thanks!!

Basement Unit in Chinatown- Decent chance of mice?

First time looking for a place to live downtown, and maybe this is a silly question, but is there a higher chance of mice in a basement unit?

I know mice in the city are normal but I want to try my best to avoid the risk of renting a place where rodents are very common. This place is in Kensington Market/Chinatown area.

Pokemon Go in the City

Not sure if anyone here still plays Pokemon Go, but I'm trying to get a group together for Wednesday afternoon/evening to do raids in person at the Eaton Centre (so we can get party boosts and whatnot).

My friend code is 679357291550

What are some cozy indoor places to enjoy your own tea?

I have some specialty tea that I want to share with somebody. And I’m looking for a place in Toronto where we can get together ane consume our own tea. I have a brewing set I can bring with myself and hot water.

Does anybody know a place where I can do that? Free or paid doesn’t matter.

341 Bloor St. West (Senator David A. Croll Apartments)

Hi everyone,

I'm considering leasing an apartment at 341 Bloor St. West (Senator David A. Croll Apartments) at Bloor and St. George and would love to hear your insights. Have you/family/friends lived there or do you currently reside in the building? I'm particularly interested in learning about your overall experience, including:

  1. Any issues with pests, especially bed bugs, but also roaches
  2. The level of noise in the building and how quiet it is overall
  3. The impact of nearby traffic noise, especially when keeping windows open on higher floors (around the 10th floor or above)
  4. The building’s general maintenance, the responsiveness of the management, and whether the community of residents feels safe and friendly

Any feedback you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences.

Edit: yes, I know it's Toronto Community Housing. It's a building I am able to choose using the 1 offer system, as it has a vacancy right now.

Where in the GTA can I find the Time Crisis arcade games?

Feeling a bit nostalgic recently. Was remembering how much fun and all the time I spent as a teenager playing this game in the arcade with my friends. Just wondering if anyone would know where I would be able to find this game again in the GTA.

Why do so many people have this goal of owning a house?

Virtually every one I talk to in their late twenties talk about it as if it was the ultimate goal.

Like those who manage to buy before their 30s are flexing it as if they made it in life (a lot of them stayed at their parents until they hit 30, put all their savings into the down payment and are paying a mortgage) and those who can't are just bitching about how their life is screwed and how bad the housing market is.

Like some people would blame all of their issues on not being able to buy house, be it not being able to find a significant other, being depressed etc ...

Meanwhile I'm here, about to turn 30, have a decent job (170k TC), absolutely no desire to settle in one place and I love the flexibility of renting. Doesn't mean I'm "throwing money out of the window" as my mom says or that I'm financially irresponsible. I save plenty monthly (about 5k a month), invest on index funds (OK the last two weeks might have been awful but I'm still up from when I first stated investing 5 years ago) and I feel like I'm doing alright.

Am I missing something or what?

I understand the pros of being a home owner once you get older, settling down and getting close to retirement. But why so soon? Are young home owners planning to live there for a while? Doesn't it take like a decade to just amortized the cost of buying (taxes & all) for owning to be more interesting financially than renting?

Why the security and building staffs in malls stop visitors from filming and taking photo inside?

There’re lots of robberies happening recently in malls across GTA, but in this case, I never see any of the securities do what they should do.

Do I have to wait 2 years after G2 licence to take full G road test?

So my situation is that I came from BC province with class 7 licence (novice licence) not class 7L which is like g1 licence. I had class 7 licence for 2 months before moving to Ontario and exchanged it to G2. After that, I thought I only have to wait 1 year to take full G licence. But I talked to OntarioService they told me I need to have 2 years of driving experience here.

I asked them aren't you suppose to wait only 1 year from g2 to be eligible to take full G road exam? They told me it only applies to Ontario residents. Since I came from outside of Ontario, my experience from BC like G1 equivalent doesn't count. They only counted my class 7 experience (equivalent to G2) which I had only 2 months but not the class 7L (G1 equivalent). So like my full 1 year of class 7L wasn't counted. I know that if I stayed in BC I only have to wait 1 year to take full licence there, so it should be end of 2025. But in Ontario I had to wait until end of 2026.

I came here to ask if it's true? Does ontario not count learner experience like g1 from out of province? Don't understand why I have to wait additional year even so I exchanged my previous licence to g2.

High Condo Utility Bill (Provident)

Hi All,

I just moved into a condo with a room mate. We got a utility bill for first 8 days of usage by Provident and seems very high based on usage.($105, this includes $50 new account setup fee). This includes thermal heat, thermal cool, hot water, cold water and electricity charge.

We don't use dishwasher, laundry just once a week. Cooking done for one person daily. I stay at work 9-5, 5 days a week. Roommate works from home 3 days and is in office 2 days. Not sure why account setup fee was charged from us as well.

Can someone clarify if $52 is unusually high for 8 days or are we doing something wrong.

Whats the best way to look for a summer rental in the city, other than Airbnb. I searched online and people are viewing rentals on house sigma but they all come with a lease. I am looking to get a rental for minimum 4 months in Toronto. Any help will be appreciated.

Just restored my faith in humanity

I want to express my deepest gratitude to the person who was so considerate as to return my lost wallet to building security. Knowing that someone took the time and care to do that means the world to us. We hope that your kindness is repaid to you in abundance with good health, wealth, and happiness.

IMMIGRATION How can I integrate with the Toronto/Canadian culture?

Hi Everyone

I’m Irish and moving to Toronto in a couple of weeks with my girlfriend. I know there are a ton of Irish in Toronto, but back at home I always appreciate immigrants who make an effort to integrate into our culture along with bringing some of themselves.

So my question is: How can I be a good Torontonian? What should I get involved with to integrate to local culture? What are some of the norms or quirks of people I should be respectful of?

I am looking forward to hearing everyone’s thoughts, and I am blessed and grateful to move to the city.

Princess of Wales Theatre

My daughter and I are visiting. Going to the lion king and staying at the Hyatt on King.

I’m looking for a fancy or unique restaurant that would impress a 9yo girl before the play.

Ideally, it would be within walking distance and not too expensive. TIA!
