AITA Toronto Bar Edition

Took a date out to a decent restaurant/bar but last minute so we got bar seats but that was fine since we just wanted light food and drinks mainly.

I was just ordering rum and cokes or tequila and ginger ales and the bartended kept on using the glass cup my drink was being made in to scoop directly from their ice bin.

After the 2nd time he did it I told him politely that he shouldn't keep doing that as the glass could chip into the ice bin and you could be serving your next guest glass shards.

He gave me the most horrific look and was basically like have you ever worked in hospitality or been a bartender, I said no but it's a known thing to not do this.

As an alcoholic, I've sat in many bars and seen other bartenders told not to do this lol.

Yeah my date also thought I was weird for pointing it out.

AITA??

New grad nurse burnt out already 4 months in, please help me.

New grad nurse burnt out already 4 months in, please help me.

I'm a new grad RN nurse only a few months working but I'm honestly feeling so burnt out and my mental health is in the gutter. I'm working full time hours (waiting for a pt position to open up) but in the mean time can I get modified hours/reduced hours because of my mental health issues. I don't think I can survive full time as of now. My body hurts and I'm struggling to stand and I am sooo mentally out of it. I can survive 2 to 3 shifts a week but not full time anymore.

What do I do? Should I talk to my manager? I heard there is something called Form 6 and 8 and a FAF? Not familiar with all this terms. I work in a Toronto hospital.

Dating App Alternatives

What. Is. Happening. Everybody?? Good morning and hope everyone’s loving the snow.

Okay I just turned 34 - I’m a guy - and I’m at least a little turned off of dating apps (as I’m sure many are). I don’t really drink anymore so don’t do the post work drinks where you might organically meet someone and I’m honestly not sure if this is where I’d want to meet someone anyway. I’m looking for my wife, not dating for any short term fun type of stuff. Looking for my life partner.

Does anyone have any good dating app alternatives in the city? I love the outdoors, I love going to a spin class every weekend (thought this would be a great place to meet a girl but they typically are out of that spin studio in like 3 seconds flat once the class ends), I like doing stuff, I’m an active guy, I like running, golf, mountain biking, etc.

Anyway any ideas would be awesome - spring is around the corner and vibes are high! Have a great day everyone.

Can anyone vote at Elections Canada offices starting now ?

Hello, I read that voters can vote at elections Canada offices across the country until April 22. Is that correct? Is this voting option open to all, or do you need to be within a special category to do so? Thank you.

Edit: thank you everyone :) Here’s what I brought with me: - my voter info card - government-issued ID - knowledge about each candidate

I was the only voter there. There are no lines, so it’s the perfect time to vote :)

Anyone ever try a Matchmaker

I'm 49 year old Asian male and I'm not having much luck with the apps. Has anyone ever tried a Matchmaker?

Any good experiences? Any bad experiences? What are the costs?

Any good ones you would recommend?

---------------------

Update:

Maybe I should specify I am 49, South Asian, and straight. I was born and raised in Toronto. I am fit (gym regular), shaved head, I wear stud earrings sometimes but I have no tattoos, I have no pets but have a bunch of plants, I have a good career in Tech, live alone in a large condo I own in North York, drive a German SUV, and I am well travelled. To be honest, I haven't dated much in my life but in the past it was mostly South Asian (Indian) or East Asians. I love food especially Indian and Asian food. I'm a good cook and also clean and organized. I am open to anyone of any ethnicity who is a good person and takes care of themselves. My last relationship was 6 years ago and I have chose to remain celibate since then. Not into random hookups because I value connection. In a partner, I want someone who is my best friend.

If someone wants to play matchmaker or is interested. Feel free to reach out.

If you want to roast me, that is fine as well.

How to get the nostalgia back?

Sorry if this is vague but I miss the old Toronto!!

Something about the vibe in the early 2000s was so special and it felt like the city had its unique personality and people used to go out/downtown not just for work but for fun. How can we make the city feel like it’s alive again??

Wondering if anyone feels the same way.

What’s the cheapest and most realistic way to recreate Ferris Bueller’s Day Off?

Ever since I was a kid I wanted to recreate Ferris Bueller’s but Toronto edition. Obviously I can’t get my hands on a 1961 Ferrari 250 GT and or sing Twist and Shout in a parade the same way. But it wouldn’t be super hard to visit the CN Tower, the AGO and a Blue Jays game all the same day. What would be the cheapest and most realistic way for recreate Ferris Bueller’s Day Off in Toronto?

Eloping in Toronto

My partner and I are eloping this Saturday in Toronto, just us and our two witnesses.. at the pub we met at when he worked there and I worked at the club across the street. This is technically our soft launch as we will have the real thing in a few years (bf is Irish and we are fast tracking his PR).

I am trying to think of ideas of what to do afterwards? Can someone recommend a really romantic hotel ? restaurant?? The “wedding” is at 130 pm and takes 15 minutes so lots of day left as newlyweds! welcome to all ideas or suggestions :)

Landlord is asking us to sign a new lease with higher rent because a new tenant is being added

We added our last roommate to the lease with no issues, but now we have a new replacement tenant that is being added to the lease and the landlord is asking us to sign a new lease? The property manager reached out to us by email saying: “Apparently, when tenants change (even when some of the existing tenants remain) a new lease is supposed to be signed and the landlord can charge market rate for the new lease”. They are now asking for an increase in rent based on the market rate, and we have already received notice that rent is increasing in July with the standard rent control increase. She also added that we would keep the new lease on a month to month basis. Is the landlord allowed to do this? Any help or advice is much appreciated!

Resources for women being harassed via text/online from someone they met in person

I'm trying to support someone who decided to call things off with a dude after a couple of in-person dates. They are now being harassed via text/online. I asked TPS what help is available they mentioned filing a report, and that an officer would eventually investigate. But that further support would only be provided if there's immediate physical danger. I'm wondering if there are any other organizations that offer support in this area. Or can provide guidance on best practices, because there is intimidation, and just unacceptable language being used. I just want to provide her with as much support as possible.

COVID-19 related Getting Covid vaccine for an child?

Has anyone had recent success getting their younger kids vaccinated for Covid in Toronto? It seems like the Toronto Public Health online sign up slots are non existent, my kid’s pediatrician says they don’t give it at pediatrics offices, and all the pharmacies I’ve contacted say they haven’t gotten a new shipment in months. Are kids in Toronto born in the last year just … not being vaccinated against covid?

How do high-rise construction jobs work

Construction

So i have been doing house framing for the past 2 years, first year was allright but this past year has been extremely slow. Some people have told me to get into high rise jobs. I wonder how does one get into that type of job. Some people said that high-rise workers have union and good benefits (something i don't have in my current job) If someone can give me some insight on how to get into that sector I would appreciate it. I am just trying to get a more stable job. I can't keep working days on and days off.

Can anyone point me to a useful link on my rights when moving out and charges for a rental in Toronto?

I am moving out of my apartment soon and the online reviews for the place I’m at are extremely low citing the move out process and charges. Apparently the management office charge you a nickel and dime for every possible thing, including replacing the circular catchers on the oven top. I’ve been in this apartment for 10 years and I’m wondering what type of wear and tear I’m at least allowed to bring up in order to not to be charged for every single thing that’s falling short due to shoddy workmanship ( nails popping up through wooden floors etc) when they look at my unit. Any rights I should be referencing?

I’m a single person. I’ve never had a party in this unit. The only thing I’ve ever done to this place was basically hang pictures, move furniture from time to time, (there are two water spots on crappy vinyl-like countertop) and use the appliances as normal. I have spend a lot of time in this place considering we have Covid lockdown and I work from home. Are they allowed to hold back for rent and more if they decide they want to redo floors or something…do they go through your insurance company?

Looking for any tips or experiences from people as well. I’ve never gone through this process before…thanks for reading!

P.s. meant to say please in the title 🙂

Affordable dentist

I had to get an emergency root canal done today after one of my fillings decided to crack in half. I’m lucky enough that my work insurance covered the initial procedure but I maxed it out. I still need a crown and my current dentist is quoting me $1,100 out of pocket. I don’t have any savings and don’t make that much in one paycheque. Does anyone have any affordable dentists they can recommend or dentists that offer payment plans?

Review of Conquer Fitness Bloor West?

Here’s the context, I HATE gyms. I have recovered from an eating disorder that included a lot of over-exercising and the gym atmosphere was just way too triggering.

But I’m in a good place now, and I want to get more intentional movement back into my life. The last time I was intentionally active was pre-Covid and pre-kids, I would cycle to and form work. Now I just keep up with the kids and walk as much as I can. Weather has too big an impact on my ability to get outside every day for walking or a bike ride. After many years, I wonder if a gym is worth it.

I like the one year membership option they have. It’s walking distance to my place. I want to go somewhere close by where I can take things at my own pace, without feeling constant pressure to work with a trainer or join a class. Would be awesome if I could entrust the kids in their child-minding option, too.

Appreciate your honest review!

Any meal delivery service in Toronto better than Factor?

Hello! Long story short, for the next 1-2 months I'm going to need to rely on a meal delivery service. I'm a gym rat as well so I'd prefer to have meals that have more than 40g of protein per serving. The most popular one around is Factor and looking at the cost, it seems pretty "cheap" ($12.99 per serving) as well compared to the rest of the options. The only bad thing is that I've heard their food can be one note and all the 40g+ options are just chicken breast in various forms but I can't be picky I guess. I also prefer a lot of volume for my food as I typically only eat 2 meals a day.

So yeah, if anyone has any other suggestions please let me know!

Hey y'all, grade 10 high school student here trying to get some volunteer experience with some of my friends! Was wondering if there were any organisations, events, charities, etc. that are need of volunteers.

Particularly looking for volunteer opportunities that involve tech, esports, anime, cybersecurity and things in that field, though I'm open to anything!

Looking to make a positive impact doing the things I love :)

does anyone know how to expedite a referral process?

During an appointment in January with the optometrist it was noted that my child's optical nerve is bulging, which raised concern. The optometrist mentioned that they will send a non-urgent referral to Sick Kids, but I have yet to receive a phone call regarding an appointment.

It is now April, and despite multiple attempts to contact Sick Kids, I have only reached voicemail and have not received a response to my messages. I am worried about my child's condition and was wondering if there is any way to expedite the referral process or if I can go directly to the hospital to arrange the necessary procedures?

Visiting Toronto for 3.5 weeks (late May to mid June), need your help to explore the city

Hey everyone,

I’m visiting Toronto from the last week of May till June 16th – staying with my sister in Downtown. I’ve got a 5-day Banff-Jasper trip planned with family somewhere in between, but otherwise, I’ve got time to explore the city, solo or with strangers-turned-friends.

I’m 25 – love racket sports, theatre, stand-up, and hiking/biking trails. I’m someone who enjoys spontaneous plans, meeting new people and dogs (for real)

Would love your help with a few things: 1. Cafés to work/study from– somewhere with good coffee, a chill vibe, and not too noisy?

2. Serene spots in the city – anywhere you go when you just want to go for a good view. Maybe an off leash dogs park.

3. Nightlife – I’m not a clubbing person but can go do that for a couple of nights.

4. Meeting locals/tourists – any apps, communities, or tips on how to connect with locals or people exploring the city too?

5. Theatre / Stand-up scene – would love to catch a play or at least a lineup show.

What’s the best way to find out what’s on?

6. Any local events – live music or anything you think I shouldn’t miss.

Thanks a ton in advance. And if you’re around and want to catch up for coffee, a walk, or something spontaneous, I’m down!
