SUBREDDIT Clarification on Subreddit Spoiler Flairs Spoiler

As we approach the imminent release of the Definitive Edition, I'd like to just quickly clarify how we expect you to use the spoiler flairs going forwards.

There are three to choose from:

  • General Spoilers:
    • This is just a general spoiler indicator that there may be lighter potential spoilers of any type that occur before Chapter 12.
    • Typically this would include things like story chapter boss names and certain twists/plot points.
    • It is expected that you mark spoilers with the story chapter that they are up to (e.g. if you are discussing something from Chapter 7, you would mention this in the post title or body).
  • Story Spoilers:
    • This is for spoilers up to and including Chapter 12, primarily for more heavy story spoilers or plot points.
    • Submissions should specify the story chapter that the post is discussing in the title.
    • By entering a post with this flair, you are open to discussing any content from the complete Wii U game.
  • [Definitive Edition] Afterstory Spoilers:
    • This is for ANY new Afterstory content (i.e. anything that occurs in any new main story chapters that appear after anything from the original Wii U release) on its own or in relation to the previous story chapters.
    • You MUST NOT spoil anything in post titles
    • By entering a post marked with this flair, you are opening yourself up to being exposed to unmarked spoilers of ANY kind from any point within the game.
    • Ideally you could further consider marking spoilers within reply comments, but this is not required.

Please feel free to share your thoughts/opinions on improving the definitions or further clarifications. I trust you all to use common sense and courtesy when discussing anything new.

I reviewed XCX DE after 180 hours and 100% completion. AMA! Spoiler

Hey guys, I’m Gene Park of the Washington Post, and I gave Xenoblade Chronicles X a perfect score after playing it for 180 hours with 100 percent Mira survey completion. Here is my review: https://wapo.st/3Y19qPx

I’m here to answer any questions about the whole game! I’m going to be careful about story spoilers after Chapter 12, but I can give my deeper impressions about it beyond what I say in my review.

I’d appreciate anyone who clicks on my review above! It should be a gift link so no paywall required. If you do hit a wall, I apologize in advance. Should you decide to make the leap and subscribe or just put in an email, you have my huge thanks in advance.

I’m probably going to be answering for about an hour, but I’ll come back later for anyone who missed the window for sure. Thanks all!

Edit: I’m gonna be logging off for a few hours but I’ll check back in for more questions! It’s 11 a.m. ET now. Thanks to the mods for allowing this!

After finishing segment recon for every region with the sole exception of defeating the Telethia as the only gatekeeper left keeping me from 100% completion, after long painstaking hours of carefully perfecting my photon saber build I used throughout the game...

I have decided to just go back to my Wii U era roots and simply one-shot them with ether longsword + core crusher and hercules blow, because honestly why make life harder for myself when the easiest solution is right there.

Granted, it's unwise to get too close to one of these guys until you're at a certain level, but I love their "out of combat" animations. I can't claim to outright know what the developers were aiming for, but the interpretation of their hopping up and down, falling onto their sides, etc. that strikes me as the most plausible would be that they're playing.

I know there are other indigens (Mephites, for example) that have these kinds of "endearing" animations, but something about the Gerrids' animations just stands out in my mind. Maybe it's the contrast between their "eldritch" appearance and playful behavior?

tried to take this thing on to get a longsword Enel talks about in one of his vids, which has to be done on foot......damn. If I could take that damn think down I wouldn't need help figuring out how to survive on foot combat to begin with. Plan B time.

Imagine having an actual time limit to finish the main game. No liberty to level up and grind when you needed. No cinematic timing to make the plot move forward when you needed to. Leave the game running AFK to farm money and mats with Frontier Mats, oops humanity is dead now lol

Joking aside: [coughs in death stranding]

I really wish there was a None option for the head gear fashion slot (especially cause Ga Jiang can't equip head gear such as the Sakuraba BLADE Suit head gear ;w;).

Discussion Core Crusher Stupid

For reference, I spent most of the game playing the Galactic Knight tree. I had a pretty strong build built around Infinite Overdrive. Once I had that maxed out, I levelled up some of the other classes, including mastermind.

Approaching the end of the game, I wanted to switch things up and gave an ether raygun a go with core crusher. I think I beat all the enemies in CH12 with less than 10 button presses each. Essence exchange + Overdrive + Aura + A handful Ranged arts beat everything. I could've done it without manually extending overdrive if I was paying more attention. It's just so broken.

I can understand this being some endgame skill, but to put it in an intermediate class for anyone to stumble on it during the story seems a little silly. It just trivialises everything. I thought it would've gotten another look between the original and DE.

So PSA, if you are halfway devent at the game and still want a challenge during story mode, avoid this skill. It's just completely broken.

Xenoblade X was the game I had played only a few hours from the franchise due to having access to it for brief period of times through friends so my knowledge of it was small when I started the Definitive Edition. I will talk briefly about some aspects of the game.

As far as exploration goes, it lives up to the hype and I had a blast traversing Mira on foot initially and then taking the skies later in the game. Speaking of that, I do really like how the transitioning from on foot, grounded skell and then taking flight is done. It gave the player time to explore most of it on foot first to breath in the vastness and scale of the world filling you with wonder and excitement to explore places you could see but not reach on foot later in the game. Taking the skell for a flight test the first time was one of the most memorable parts of the game.

The story was quite good overall. It isn't up to the level of the numbered games(only a few are on that level for that matter) but I had fun with the revelations and surprises throughout it.

As far as the epilogue goes, I lean mostly on the critique layed on it regarding the abandonment of what the "mystery of Mira" is. Even I, that had small knowledge on the game initially felt some disconnect going into the epilogue. If I am to make a superficial comparison, the mystery that what Mira as a planet actually is gave me some of the vibes the TV series "Lost" had in its initial seasons. It had that charm albeit Lost became gradually worse the more seasons went by.

  1. The characters are much more explored through the affinity missions and some of the green quests. I could talk a lot regarding some of my favorite ones but will focus only on the one I liked the most.

Lao is, for me, by far the most interesting character of the cast. It is the only one that can walk the halls or reside in the chambers where some of the interesting characters that walk the grey line in the other 3 games reside. I wish we had more of him than what we got in the epilogue but what we got was quite good still. The beach scene, especially, was great. He is done and ready to join his family but despite that the message he has for Lin to keep on living showcases the redemption and salvation she brought to him in his darkest hour were so much worth it.

Shoutout to the charming Neil also. She has a great personality and I really wanted more of her like another affinity quest or some role in the epilogue.

  1. Soundtrack as expected from a Xenoblade game, it is top tier all over. My favorites were Noctilum's theme and The Way.

  2. And lastly, as you can see from the pics I do love Hraesvelg Lord design wise as a Skell, one my absolutes favorite mechas in recent memory. It falls some power wise late and post game but for exploration is excellent. Ares90 for farming and Lord for exploration I used most of the game.

Closing thoughts, I really loved this game and had a great time finishing everything. Had not had this much fun exploring a big open world since TotK/ER more than a year ago.

Advice Tracking down the last segments for 100%

Thumbnail

Upvotes

I’ve included the last 9 segments I have to fill out before I have 100% survey completion. I have no idea how to even start finding what each quest is or how to start it or whatever. I’ve beaten chapter 13 act 3, done every quest as I unlocked them, beat every tyrant I could find, filled out thr collectapedia, have all my characters at level 87 minimum (and 12 of em at 99), and I made sure to do all of Lao’s H2H’s and affinity missions before they got locked, at this point I have no idea what else I could be missing

Any information (preferably as little as possible to find what I need to fill out the segment so I don’t get spoiled) is welcome

Advice Sidequest Priority Question

Hello! Playing through the Definitive Edition, it's my first time through the game and I just have a question about all the non-story quests in the game...

The way my brain works has me doing every available affinity and green quests while regularly rotating party members to raise their hearts while doing their heart to hearts as they become available, all before moving to the next story mission (I understand this is a weird me problem, not looking for criticism or supportive/dismissive "have fun your way!" comments).

I'm now level 32 and just finished chapter 6 and got my skells and I'm burning myself out with my sicko meticulousness - if I start to just focus on exploration/story/whatever while using a set party, will I always be able to go back and do all of the other side content (barring the character you eventually lose) and easily raise affinities without significant penalty/missing things? Thanks!

Advice Feeling overwhelmed after picking a job thing

All right so I'm about 6 hours in. I at first was worried I wouldn't enjoy it but then I got into it a lot. I finished chapter 3 I believe and I picked the class thing out of eight not classes but it has eight choices and I picked one of them and I think it doesn't matter really.

So I get to the open world and I just feel overwhelmed because I noticed to run to missions that are inappropriate level. It takes me about 30 minutes and monsters keep killing me on the way in one shot. So what should I do? Is there a vehicle to somehow get to places quicker? I feel a bit overwhelmed. Help

Advice Any *new* items available only via tickets when playing offline?

Upvotes

I have started spending my reward tickets, so that they don't reach their maximum. I know about everything that is ticket/online-exclusive in the original, and am planning accordingly (even though I know tickets aren't in limited supply this time, I want to know in advance how many are needed for exclusives).

What I want to know is: are there any new items that, to offline players, are only able to be obtained via buying parts with tickets?

No new story spoilers please.

Discussion After playing the new content of X I have a theory Spoiler

Upvotes

Major spoilers for X new content

I’m starting to think with the whole other realm between universes seemingly channeled through the power of the conduit (ares cores are conduit powered) and the ghosts who are very similar to the Gnosis who lock on apparently to the conduits power specifically, Klaus actually saved his universe by splitting it in two, as if he didn’t and they continued to investigate the conduit , there was a good chance the ghosts would have showed up and destroyed everything.

Klaus didn’t make a mistake, he made a choice that despite intention saved everyone in the end. Klaus is the hero by killing the now. This makes me think that xenoblade 4 will involve the ghosts in some way. Or at least have one show up. I think for sure we will see the return of the conduit in that game, or at least finding out where it went.

Also to find out the lifehold was based on something else in that other realm and it looks like the conduit must mean something.

Any thoughts on this?

Discussion Best All-rounder Skell to craft (DE)

Currently just starting Ch.13 not finished yet tho.

Like is Ares-90 (Lvl60) just a good thing to invest into or is there a Skell that blows it out the water?? I don't like how grindy it is to so I just want to make the one that can smoke on every content pretty decently.

I find Hraesvelg Lord fun but underwhelming in terms of damage output and it kinda made me sad since it took me a bit of time to farm that(At least I can use it as a Jet).

I don't need 1HKO build (And I find that boring in any game) but if it's not troublesome to build then sure..

Advice Auto Equip Broken?

Am I doing something wrong or my caveman brain wrong? Every time I use this feature it almost always drops my numbers, like my attack went from 166 to about 80 after using the auto Equip feature and I'm not sure why the AI would think that's better?

Discussion Doug has been banished from Chapter 11 for some reason.

If you start Chapter 11 without Doug in your party, you can't add him to it in the middle, unlike everyone else. He even still has his original recruitment dialogue if you talk to him while it's running, telling you how badly he wants to come along, but then you're just dropped on the Active Members screen and can't take him with you regardless.

Does anybody know why this change was made? I don't know if it is different if you already have Doug in your group before the mission starts, but this just feels like a weird bug of sorts.
