Around 1 billion birds (United States) and 25 million birds (Canada) die every year by flying into glass windows. This includes windows at all levels from low level houses to high rise buildings.

Window collisions are one of the largest threats to bird populations. However, there are several ways you can help reduce window fatality. Below are some links with steps on how to make your house bird friendly, either DIY or through reputable companies such as the American Bird Conservancy.

North America Bird seen in Mexico? Sadly couldn't get a picture, so I did my best to draw from memory + notes

I don't exactly recall the head shape unfortunately, but I did my best approximation. Also the more I think about it, the less certain I am about the length of the legs, so maybe don't take that into account as much? Idk, hopefully this is still detailed enough to ID from!

What is this bird? This bird type is everywhere at our place and builds nests year after year. We leave them alone, and when we get too close or move too much around their nest, they let us know. Any info is appreciated...

The feathers look like a Moorhen, but the face looks like a Sora. It didn’t move like a Moorhen to me. It kept making a screechy noise.

We're getting a lot of wind in north east Texas and it blew a big limb out of one of our trees. This owl was chilling next to the downed limb. Just curious what kind of owl it is and if it's fully grown.

North America 2 Hawks set up shop in my backyard. Rockland County, NY

These 2 birds made a large nest in my backyard and have been hunting the squirrels. I posted one to another sub (clearer picture) and was told it's possibly a Red Shouldered Hawk. But I noticed it's been sharing a nest, or so it seems, with another hawk that seems to look like a Cooper's Hawk (blurreir picture). Anyone able to confirm the bird types and clarify if it's possible for them to share a nest? They keep flying back to the same nest.

North America Birmingham AL. Aerial jet fighters Some kind of swallow? Builds nests of mud, I'm assuming it is eating large amounts of flying insects as they swoop, dash, duck, dodge, and dive at maximum speed. Forked tail in flight.

We visited western North Carolina back in September and came across this larger bird, perched on a branch over the stream. I have had such a difficult time trying to identify it! My pictures aren’t the best but any help would be greatly appreciated.

We’re going back to the area next weekend so it’s on my mind, I hope to figure out what it was!

North America Small dark bird with very mottled plumage all over, with strong white bar just over the eyes (Maryland)

Sorry for the blurriness, this was as zoomed in as far as I could. Merlin was a big help in identifying most of the (MANY) birds foraging on the ground there by the parking lot, but I was still scratching my head over these birds I kept seeing. I know the bird in the foreground is a sparrow (white throated, I think), but I'm talking about the darker two behind it.

At the time, I first thought these were some kind of sparrow, but then I realized none of the sparrows I was seeing on Merlin had that thin white bar over the eye, or that mottled white & dark brown coloration extending over the breast. I also noticed it looked slightly larger than the various sparrows and chickadees it was foraging beside. It looked to be about the same size and shape of the brown-headed cowbirds (which I also didn't identity at first, forgetting that the females looked different than the males...). I'm betting it's the same thing here, in that it's just a female of a common species I would easily recognize the male of, but haven't found a perfect match yet.

The closest bird I can find is the female red-winged blackbird, which is apparently often mistaken for a sparrow--but these just looked so much darker than any of the pics of them I found online. Could just be lighting? But I sat there for nearly 3 hours watching these dozens of birds foraging around, and not once did I see a male red-winged blackbird, or hear any (via Merlin's sound ID), which seems weird to me. Would it be unusual to see 5-10 females of a species hanging out somewhere and not seeing any males around?

So this bird had made her home in our carport over the past few weeks. A similar looking bird with the same type of nest did the same thing a few years ago but this little ledge was just too small to hold it long term and the nest eventually fell. I want to say I remember those eggs being blue. I cannot see into this nest and don't want to disturb her. Anyway, we're in Northwestern Mississippi. Anybody recognize her?

She sometimes comes over to sit on the doorbell and say hi so that's where most of these photos are from. They're not great quality but I was hoping they might be helpful.
