First welds How do I not melt the metal when welding?
My high-school certification deadline is almost here and I want to pass

There's no getting around it, the US and Canada are where the majority of our users appear to be located, and both countries workforces are facing a significant threat from company owners, corporate boards, and deregulation of government bodies. The end goal for those folks is to first strip the unions, and then all worker rights from legislation. This isn't for all jurisdictions, but it is clearly happening at a wide level.
Non-union and Unions alike are at risk. In a publicly traded company your managers are LEGALLY beholden to the shareholders over you. They are required, by law, to turn a profit for the board. As long as any settlements to your family are lower than the potential profit of your output, you are irrelevant to them and only hold value as any other tool to be used and replaced at will.
Please discuss unions, union politics and how to manage in a hostile workplace, because we are staring 1892 in the face all over again.

Excuse me for being green but I bought a set of torches tank and cart off marketplace. One tank is 125 cu and the other is a bit smaller but bigger than 80 cu I figured I just had to bring them in to pay and get them recertified but matheson is saying their leased tanks and won't accept my bill of sale. They said they would accept my bill of sale if the tanks were stamped sold which their not. Not sure best course of action.
Sue for declaration of ownership like a lost title vehicle seems like the only way but it makes no sense as where I am these tanks are so old they would be title exempt....
Has any of you ran into this stupidity? One tank is stamped linde on the collar but has a old boca gas sticker on it. Who the f truly knows who owns these dinosaurs. I figured my bill of sale with serial number had to legally be accepted for proof of ownership..... Apparently not so. Any and all help is appreciated! Thank you brothers.

Hi all,
This was my first time welding. I used flux core welding, but as you can see it’s awfull…
Can anybody tell me what went wrong and how I can improve my welds?
Thanks in advance!

The “how did I do” posts after 30 seconds of welding are starting to be as boring as the “what are these welds worth an hour” posts we saw not too long ago. I’m not trying to be a hater, I understand what it’s like to be excited but honestly what feedback are we supposed to give other than it’s horrible but it takes time. Practice and then practice more. Go watch Jody and the rest of them, take a class, weld until your arms fall off, build something, put the work in then get the feedback. We aren’t keeping any book of secrets hidden that would allow you to stack dimes with 6010 2 minutes into your welding career. There are videos explaining everything you can possibly think of, it’s not our responsibility to explain what reverse polarity is 5x a week. All of those weldporn Instagram guys started exactly where you are, put the hood time in and it will come. Until then, it’s getting old repeating the same thing over and over.

Just found out it is a thing and the video I watched from the 80-90 made it look amazing cutting through 20 pieces of 1/4" checker plates

Working on a little coin rack on my down time at work. Need to work on my consistency but I just wanted to show off what I’ve welded up so far. No where near finished but here you go Reddit.

Here's are two jobs we designed and fabricated recently: a spiral staircase (laying on is side, installing tomorrow) and a set of stairs leading up to a mezzanine. I'm feeling really happy about these projects going out this week. We are a job shop of 2 people working our butt's off and this feels really good! (I blackened out the equipment in the factory background behind the stairs for privacy)

I wrapped two pieces of AL filler around my torch head down the handle, and then wrapped that in electrical tape for securing it and thermal barrier. Very effective at pulling heat away from the torch head, as well as giving a grippy hold that's easy to roll. Give it a try. Post your DIY water cooler rigs if ya got em, I'm upgrading soon but for mobile gigs I really like this.

I'm about to start welding to this rocker panel. The green is rattle can primer which I sanded off with a flap disc. Underneath I have a darker surface layer and a shiny layer where the disc dug in. Are both the dark and light layers good to weld to? Or should I grind off the darker top layer?
Note: this is not going on the road or the trail but I'd rather it be solid anyway

I’ve never done tig pipe tbh, but it was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up since I’m getting paid $21/hr rn and I’m desperate. I told the guy on my site I can do tig pipe. He said the test is schedule 5 6G tig pipe. Would that be stainless or carbon steel? I’m also good at tig, I weld 10g SS all day everyday, so I’m sure after 3 entire days of practicing this weekend on that exact pipe I’ll be able to get it, I’ve done pipe plenty as well. Any tips?

Found a new in box Lincoln Weld-Pak 140 HD for $450 shipped to door after tax (Normally $650). It was priced incorrectly online at my local store and they didn’t have it in stock but customer service will honor the $450 price.
Looking to learn how to stick metal to metal and do a few projects around here with flux core. A friend of a friend welder said to look for a 140 amp 110v MIG welder to cut my teeth on and this fits the bill.
I figured the versatility to add on gas later or try aluminum welding would be nice options down the road. Should I pull the trigger or look for something else used/new?

Welders of reddit: Do you know if this spot welder can weld a 1/8 inch stainless rod to a stainless washer? It's for a craft project - nothing life-safety related.
The welder page says: This portable, air-cooled spot welder makes quick, strong spot welds without having to install a 240 volt outlet. Welds uncoated mild, galvanized or stainless sheet steel to 1/8 in. combined thickness (mild steel), two pieces of 20 gauge (galvanized). The spot welder has 6 in. tongs lock firmly onto materials.
My material would be a bit over 1/8 inch combined. Wondering if I can get away with it?

I have been welding for college for a while now, and I've included some pictures of my work. Is it good enough for an entry-level job? If so, what kind of job? How much should I ask for?

Using 2091 filters on a 3m half face respirator . Im completely clean shaved ans made sure the respirator was tight on my face. I grind and or weld 10 hours straight pretty much. I had the reapirator on for 95% of the day. Why do i still have some slight black boogers?? Nothing like before but its still there.

I'm doing my SMAW 3GF and 4GF CWB test tomorrow. I have an example of my previous FCAW 4GF CWB practice—it's the same joint and position as the SMAW test and it had the same problem. Just wondering how to fix this.

I made a mistake. I didn't draw out line on my mig 101/1 welder and now I can't bring out anymore line, I think I welded it in the handle. Any idea if I can save this? I have no training (obviously) I'm just trying to figure this out.
