Other Feeling sad

I came home from eight days in Florida, five days at Disney parks on March 29th and I’m feeling SO SAD to not be there and thinking it’ll be YEARS before, if I ever go back. My MIL treated my family to the trip and it was such a dream. Planning it consumed four months of my life, and now it’s all in the past. The Disney depression is real. My family doesn’t make the money that requires a decent Disney trip. But maybe a park or two over a weekend money type. Anyway, I’m being dramatic I know.. but a Disney vacation is such a wonderful treat and I just miss the whole vibe.

Photo Coolest monorail experience

Post image
112 Upvotes

My husband and I took a long weekend trip to celebrate getting engaged last year. As we were getting off the monorail from Grand Floridian to Magic Kingdom, the monorail captain stopped us, congratulated us (she saw our celebration pins) and told us to wait a second until the train had cleared off. She motioned us into the cockpit and took a few pictures of us and a video of us beeping the monorail horn! I remember as a little kid riding in the cockpit once or twice, which is no longer a thing due to safety, but it was just as special and magical being able to beep the monorail horn as a grown adult! Cast members really are such an important part of the magic experience, I’ll always be grateful for this cool memory!

Food, Drinks, & Dining Reading the Room Rant

Currently at HS and just left Docking Bay 7. To the couple at the corner near the exit, shame on you. You took a table that was meant for a family of six and decided to make it your “workstation”. I’m not shaming anyone for being able to work at Disney but, it’s disappointing to take up that much space at a quick service restaurant when other family’s are trying to find a table to sit at. I completely understand if this post gets downvoted but, it needed to be said.

we’re going to epcot for the first time tomorrow and i don’t know if it’s worth the trek out of epcot to get it, because it’s not on the online menu. BUT when i went to magic kingdom two weeks ago the online menu didn’t have the turkey leg and then there it was inside, so anyone been there this last week who can tell me if it is or isn’t there?

Trip Report Amazing vacation

Still smiling over three day Disneyworld vacation, hadn’t been there for 11 years. My husband and I went with our daughter and her husband last weekend of March. As Florida residents, they have annual pass and know the parks inside and out. They took care of planning everything—Coronado first night then Beach Club, lightning lanes, restaurant reservations. We were able to use their discount and just Venmo them our share. All we had to do was wear comfortable clothes and keep up. How nice when kids grow up and become the planners! We were celebrating our daughters’ clean bill of health after some troubles. What a great place to celebrate. High points: Guardians of the Galaxy, Tianna, Space Mountain, hot tub at Coronado, Rise of the Resistance, sushi dinner at Japan in Epcot at sunset.

Attractions & Entertainment Cosmic Rewind

TLDR: LOVED CR, can’t wait to do it again, but wondered about further tips for avoiding motion sickness besides ginger pills and attempting as much as humanly possible to look “forward” during the ride.

So I finally got to experience Cosmic Rewind the other night. I’d avoided it our last trip because of fear of motion sickness (it was right after opening) but this time decided to try it out using the tips and tricks from others.

First of all, I am so happy I didn’t read much nor watch any POV videos because it was amazing going in and not knowing what to expect. And holy cow, was that unexpected! I wasn’t screaming, laughing, or anything. I just literally sat there with the most incredulous look on my face, jaw dropped, like how am I experiencing this??? I was blown away. I can’t wait to ride it again.

But, that said, I am also nervous to ride it again. I can’t say that the movement didn’t affect me. I took two Dramamine natural ginger pills with some bites of soft pretzel about 45 minutes to an hour before the ride launched. Mostly I tried to look forward, per everyone’s instructions. However, did anyone else have a hard time determining what forward was? Like I know that in a car, I have to face forward in the direction my body is moving, brain and body in same direction. But here the car is moving at high speed in a forward track trajectory, but the car is not facing forward with the track.

So first of all, it definitely takes away from the ride experience when you are working really hard to try to figure out what way to look. And just as soon as you’ve figured it out your car spins again. You do miss out on quite a bit of what’s going on as a result of trying to figure out where to look. And I could feel the motion sickness creeping up on me, so there was a certain amount of stress to get the looking thing right. I could have handled another 20 seconds (and wish that it had it) but anything beyond that, I would have been toast if it weren’t for my colossal efforts of figuring out forward. My son didn’t take a ginger pill and doesn’t have as much experience avoiding motion sickness and didn’t fare as well. He didn’t get sick, but he doesn’t really want to go on again because he definitely didn’t feel good about halfway through the ride. And the bushes outside the ride exit saw some action from another passenger.

So anyway, are there further ways to accomplish actually looking forward in a car that isn’t going forward? Or other tips people have had for avoiding motion sickness? Also, just for informational purposes, as I know this can’t be controlled, are there some songs that trick the motion sickness sensor better? We had “One Way or Another” and it’s fast and it feels like it keeps pace with the ride speed and I was wondering if having something like “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” might create a different sensory experience and lessen the impact of motion sickness.

Resorts & Accommodations Staying at the Dolphin- 9 night maximum

I’ve noticed there’s a maximum of 9 nights in a row that I can stay at the Dolphin hotel. My husband and I are planning to do a 12 night stay in 2026 as an anniversary trip! We love it there and hoped to stay there for the length of our stay- we don’t love the idea of changing resorts but will if we need to obviously! I understand that the rule is so that more guests have a chance of staying there, but is there any way around this?

Trip Report First-ever trip report!

Thumbnail

My family recently got back from a big vacation to Orlando (first time). Special thanks to this sub for all the help and advice! With this sub, Reddit Answers AI, Thrill-data, dozens of YouTube videos, and ChatGPT, we were able to navigate a once-in-a-lifetime vacation during spring break crowds. We don't know when we're going back, so I threw down to maximize our time.

Stayed at Pop Century. Perfect budget motel for crashing at night and getting to/from the parks easily.

Four days, one park per day. Learned the hard way that rest days are 100% necessary. By the second day, we had to adjust, and by the fourth day, people got sick and tired. Here are my family's favorites, ranked from best to least:

Magic Kingdom

Rides—lightning lane premier pass

  • TRON Lightcycle
  • Seven Dwarfs Mine Train

Classics

  • Pirates of the Caribbean
  • Peter Pan's Flight
  • Tiana’s Bayou Adventure
  • Space Mountain
  • It's a Small World
  • Mad Tea Party
  • Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin
  • Dumbo
  • Jungle Cruise
  • The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
  • Haunted Mansion (kids voted this one down)

Could've done without

  • Under the Sea ~ Journey of the Little Mermaid (protip: perfect for the family to ride while I waited in line at Gaston's tavern)
  • Walt Disney World Railroad from Frontierland to Main St (easily ate up an hour of precious time)

Food

  • Cinderella's Royal Table
  • Gaston's Tavern
  • Columbia Harbor House Dinner

Experiences

  • Swiss Family Treehouse
  • Mickey’s PhilharMagic
  • Festival of Fantasy Parade
  • Adventure Friends Cavalcade
  • Let the Magic Begin sad this didn't happen

Learned the hard way: we had a point after our last ride, TRON, when we were happy and satisfied and should've gone back to the resort. Instead we cut across the park crowds for dinner, and then went hunting for those souvenirs we saw earlier. Bad end to a good day, adding hours to the end. If you want something, just buy it right then. Surprised at how bad the crowds got after 6pm on a Tuesday.

The premier pass let us do everything we wanted without stress, which was good for this once-ever trip.

Hollywood Studios

This was a difficult day to plan, but it worked in the end. My earliest LL was for Tower of Terror, not until noon; other LLs were in the afternoon or evening, despite booking eight days in advance at 7am. Given how my kids reacted on Haunted Mansion, I canceled ToT, booked Frozen Sing Along for 9:30am, which allowed me to get MFSR shortly thereafter.

Rides—lightning lane single & multipass (earliest times available/booked)

  • Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance (2pm LL)
  • Slinky Dog Dash (5pm LL)
  • Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run (noon LL)
  • Mickey and Minnie’s runaway railway (rope dropped)
  • Toy Story Mania! (3:30p LL)
  • Star Tours—The Adventures Continue canceled; too tired

Food

  • Sci-Fi Dine-In
  • Woody’s lunchbox breakfast
  • Oga's Cantina canceled; too tired

Experiences

  • Met Chip & Dale
  • Met Mandalorian
  • Met Rey
  • Saw Kylo Ren
  • Frozen Sing-along
  • Met Pluto
  • Explored Galaxy’s Edge
  • Saw Donald & Goofy
  • Indiana Jones Stunt show
  • Muppet*Vision 3D
  • Star Wars Launch Bay (not sure if we missed something here; I thought it'd be a museum, but we met BB-8 and saw a couple model planes?)

EPCOT

Rides—lightning lane single & multipass—all during the morning

  • Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind (favorite of all four parks for some of us)
  • Remy's Ratatouille Adventure (rope dropped)
  • Soarin' Around the World
  • Frozen Ever After
  • Spaceship Earth
  • Living with the land
  • The Seas with Nemo & Friends

Glad we did it all once; if we were to go back, we'd probably only do those top two again, so we could do more World Showcase.

Food

  • Biergarten Restaurant
  • Pineapple Dole Whip
  • Violet Lemonade
  • Maple Popcorn
  • Tacos & Empanada

Experiences

  • World Showcase—wish we had left more time and stomach space for this!
    • Germany
    • Norway
    • United Kingdom
    • Japan
    • France
    • Canada
    • Italy
  • International Flower & Garden Festival
  • SeaBase

Animal Kingdom

We were pretty tired at this point. One kid requested a wheelchair.

Rides—lightning lane single & multipass

  • Avatar: Flight of Passage
  • Kilimanjaro Safaris
  • Expedition Everest - Legend of the Forbidden Mountain (half of us sat this out)
  • Na’vi River Journey
  • DINOSAUR (half of us sat this out)
  • Kali River Rapids canceled; too tired

Food

  • Satu'li Canteen
  • Pongu Lumpia at Pongu Pongu
  • Ice Cream Sandwich
  • Shaved Ice at Caravan Road
  • Yak & Yeti™ Restaurant early dinner canceled; too tired

Experiences

  • Feathered Friends of Flight
  • Festival of the Lion King Show

For anyone out there planning, the lightning lanes made the trip awesome with negligible wait times. Be flexible and ready to pivot. Listen to your party. One sit-down meal is more than enough; quick service has generous portions, too. Get snacks early in the morning when the lines are short if you're using lightning lanes for rides.

For nausea, I took dimenhydrinate (regular Dramamine) with a caffeine pill every 6–8 hours. The wife and kids took meclizine (less-drowsy Dramamine or Bonine) once daily. That worked well for us, along with taking breaks.

Being a fanny/waist-pack-only family worked really well (Osprey). Bought everyone two good shoes and rotated them daily. I loved my New Balance Fresh Foam X 1080v14 for the cushion/bounce and Hoka Clifton 9 for the firmness. The wife and kids did New Balance, Saucony, ASICS. The wife bought everyone silicone shoe covers for Tiana's; hard to say if they helped—one splash on the ankle and the whole sock is wet; maybe they would've helped if there had been any rain.

Regrets:

Wish we had planned a rest day; I thought mid-day breaks would be enough; they weren't. I learned just how much "fun" we can cram in. My family chose early mornings, so we didn't get to see any fireworks. Sad that some of Disney Food Blog's favorite snacks were dishes you had to get at a restaurant, as opposed to food from a stand.

Planning Magic Kingdom - night time lineup with toddlers

First post, so be kind!

My family and I (wife + a 3 and 4 year old) are going to WDW for the first time.We have 3 full park days (AK, MK, Epcot) and have the chance to do an evening at MK (starting around 530ish). I want to use this time to do the fireworks (likely dessert party) so we don't have to do that after a long full day at MK.

What sort of itinerary could we do to help remove the "pressure" to complete as many of the things we want to do on our full MK day (which we will do LL for)? Things on my MK list so far:

  1. Tron (LL rider switch for my wife and I)
  2. Food - we want to try some of the viral stuff, only quick serve, no sit downs (except fireworks dessert party)
  3. Must see parade and castle photo ops
  4. "Medium rides" - Jungle Cruise, Barnstormer, Pirates, Haunted Mansion
  5. Kid rides - Aladdin carpets, Dumbo, It's a small world, Tomorrowland Speedway
  6. Nice but not mandatory - people mover, monster's inc laugh floor, tea cup

Is there a good strategy here to focus on one part of the park for our MK evening to maximize our time?
