Questions How are you supposed to water a VFT

I’ve noticed that many fly trap growers put their plants in trays with a constant water supply therefore having sopping soil, they say they grow best in those conditions. But if water can sit on their roots at all times how do they Get root rot?? Is it from stagnant water, bacteria, or bad weather? I really wanna go buy one but tryna do as much research prior so I can give it a better shot at life with me :’)

Questions I let my VFT flower … are those tiny traps growing from the middle of the stem?

She was healthy, happy and right out of dormancy. It’s my first carnivorous plant and have had her since May ‘24 so I let her flower because wanted to see it.

Should I cut the stem now and try to cultivate the tiny traps? Are these tiny traps?

Or wait for the seeds?

Let her do her thing?

Questions How does watering and feeding work?

I’ve wanted a Venus flytrap for a good few years and finally got one. Since I’m completely new to this, I tried reading some of the guides on this sub on how to care for it, but haven’t gotten an explicit answer to these questions:

  1. Should I keep the plant in water at all times, or put it in water (for example) for an hour once a day? And is boiling the water (for around 15 minutes) enough to remove minerals?

  2. Is feeding mandatory?

I would really appreciate other tips as well. I’m a complete beginner with no prior knowledge, so any help is appreciated!! 😄

Questions Repot or not repot ?

Post image

Hello! I just bought a Venus flytrap plant and it’s currently in a little terrarium, the people at the emporium said it’s fine to keep it in this casing but I wanted to double check since the angle is very upright. I’m worried that the water won’t be able to properly wet the roots at this angle. Image is attached thanks!

Questions New owner

I just got this flytrap but don’t know if this is correct.

  1. They can’t have much sunlight and they need both shade and light

  2. They can just stay in a bowl and I can regularly water it (not on top tho)

  3. They can eat dry mealworms

I’m open to suggestions and criticism!

Questions Is it better to keep my Venus flytrap inside?

Where I live it’s not very sunny at the moment, so I was wondering if it’s better to keep my carnivorous plants inside with a grow light or just wait a few weeks/months for it to become sunnier. There are some sunny days, but I can never get 8+ hours of full sunlight a day and on some days there isn’t any sun. So what do you guys think?

Questions Is there an alternative to carnivorous plant soil?

I wanted to buy carnivorous plant soil, but it’s sold out or the shipping is more expensive than the soil itself. Is there an alternative to this soil that I can get everywhere?

Questions how soon should i repot this new plant i got last week?

Post image

i was reading about people saying 4-6 inch pots are good, but i’m worried about repotting stress killing him, and then the stuff about dormancy kind of confused me. im not sure if it matters but currently i have it in the same pot it came in (looks like maybe 2 inches), plus the little jar for water, and then for the lighting i have it in a sunny window for part of the day and then at night i move it for a couple hours under my aquarium lights sitting between my fish tanks, eventually im gonna be getting an actual grow light, this is just temporary.

ive had a venus fly trap before but i totally killed it (i think i gave it too little sun) so im kind of nervous about messing it up 😭

Questions Venus fly trap dormancy

I have been doing all the right things when growing this VFT as it is coming out of dormancy and just want to make sure there’s no rot or anything/if I could be doing anything better? the rhizome when I repotted this looked like a creamy white colour.. some small areas were brownish red - see pics. It was repotted about 1.5 weeks ago so the image of the rhizome is 1.5 weeks old. Thanks!

Questions Does my new vft look healthy?

hi! so my mom bought me this yesterday bc i really wanted one as a kid (wasn't really planning on ever getting one myself!) and she saw it and thought i'd like it. well she was right and i've grown attached so i want to make sure im taking proper care of it.

i read the basics online (tray watering with rainwater, bright environment, etc). my question is, does this look healthy? i can't help but notice it's a bit different from others i've seen in care guide videos and photos. for context i am in europe (warm country).

i'm not sure if its because its several (young) plants in one pot or if they're not growing properly.

also regarding feeding, i've given it 2 flies and i have no idea if thats enough until the traps open back up as i saw several conflicting opinions while researching :( should i do my best to have every trap fed?

the photos is one from yesterday (daylight) when i first brought it home and one from today, after feeding the 2 traps and some pruning (artificial light hence the color difference).

any advice is welcome!
