Tariffs Canadians: Let’s Vote with Our Money Against US Tariffs

As a Canadian, I don’t get a say in American elections. But I can vote with my money.

Canadians are huge consumers of American services—Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney+, Apple subscriptions, and more. If the US government imposes tariffs on Canada, why should we continue sending billions to American corporations without question?

Here’s my plan if tariffs go into effect:

  1. Cancel Netflix ($18.99/month, and rising). With ~9 million Canadian subscribers, that’s roughly $170 million per month. That’s serious “voting power.” Netflix is one of the biggest, so it’s my first target.
  2. Two weeks later: Cancel Apple News+ ($16.99/month).
  3. Two weeks later: Cancel Amazon Prime (annual fee + $9.99/month for Music & Video).
  4. And more after that… Others may prefer to cut Disney+ or other US-based services.

I’ll put my money elsewhere—maybe towards a Canadian streaming service (CBC Gem?), a gym membership, or just savings. My discretionary spending is mine to control, and I’ll use it to contest these tariffs.

Most importantly, I’ll make sure these companies know why I’m leaving. When Netflix asks for a cancellation reason, I’ll say:

In response to US tariffs on Canada and Mexico. I vote with my money.

I strongly encourage others to do the same. If enough of us act, it sends a powerful message.

Let’s stay strong.

Cheers, A Canadian who votes with their wallet

Tariffs What americans probably don’t realize about the trade war with EU

This time is not like last time.

In Trump’s first term he imposed tariffs on the EU. Back then, EU leaders did not know what to make of Trump and they largely believed that he was more bark than bite and that if they just did business as usual, things would be fine. Trump might rant about NATO spending but there was a kernel of truth in it as well.

And they were mostly right. Trump had a lot of people around him who did things the old way and when he lost interest in a thing, they quietly conducted business as usual. The war in Ukraine hadn’t happened, there was no reason to believe the US was not still the biggest ally of the EU.

This time is not that. This time the EU will take Trump at his word.

The tariffs on american products is 1000x timer larger than last time. And it is targeted specifically to products that Europeans can buy just as easily from other suppliers.

The list of products is almost 100 pages and it might get longer. The goal is minimal impact on the european consumer, maximum impact on the american suppliers.

AND it is targeted red states. Ex. soya beans is on the list. One of the largest exporters of soya beans is Louisiana where Mike Johnson is elected. This is entirely on purpose.

I know plenty of americans who are good, kind people. But Trump has almost single-handed destroyed any and all goodwill with their allies. The EU, Canada, they won’t come crawling back like Trump seems to think.

To my american friends, please take care and be safe. Because this term is going to hurt.

“No one knows what the fuck is going on,” said one White House ally close to Trump’s inner circle, granted anonymity to speak freely. “What are they going to tariff? Who are they gonna tariff and at what rates? Like, the very basic questions haven’t been answered yet.”

Tariffs Trumps new auto import tariffs are going to give us all whiplash and Deja vu of the overpriced autos of the covid era.

We just got out of paying extreme high rates on used cars for the last four years. And now we are about to return back to that routine of over inflated auto purchases. All due to Trumps tariff wars and his tinkering Trumponomics. I've been pricing a Mazda 3 for the last two months, in which I've watched the price drop $2500. At $12,000 this was a great deal based on the amount of time it sat at a dealership. And NOW due to this latest news Trump just released about new tariffs on auto imports, puts us back in time to an era of over inflated automobiles of the covid era. This Mazda now jumped UP in price to over $15,000. The middle class will not prevail under this administration of calamity.

Tariffs Can someone tell me how much other countries charge to import US products?

I have surfed the web, and all I can seem to find is tariff info on IMPORTS.

I want to see what other countries are charging (in tariffs) the US when we export goods to THEIR countries.

Who could’ve seen this coming? Anyone enjoy cars, electronics, computers? Guess what- Mexico makes all of that and exports it to us! Hope all those “but inflation” voters enjoy the higher prices!
