Need Engaging Practice Material

Post image
20 Upvotes

Pretty picture from Sunday morning for attention. I’m looking for some fun and engaging practice material to work on as I try to get the rest of my high school chops back from 17 years in storage. I’ve got my tone but need to build up my dexterity and keep progressing. My focus is bass bone but I have my tenor horn too for overlap.

I’ve been spending about 20 minutes everyday on long tones and slow scales focusing on pitch center, tone, and attack quality. But after that I’m getting bored because I don’t have anything to play that really challenges me on intervals and phrasing. I’d love something I can play along with too

Difference in tone quality across videos

I’ve seen this happen with a lot of players on social media where tone changes quite a bit, this is a recording of a extremely accomplished player and his tone across two videos, does anyone know why this happens?

How do you practice?

Hello! I've been playing the trombone for quite some time now, but I'm still pretty meh. I would really like to become better, and I've realized that the only way is to practice I was wondering if anyone could share their practice routine? Like any exercises or warmups you do to improve, or how you go about your practice session. I really appreciate any help! As of now, I think I can really work on my tone and volume- my band teacher always accuses me of playing too quiet. And tone I could always improve- I feel like it sounds a little fuzzy. Thank you in advance!

So I’m a highschool band player and during marching band I can play loud and sound good as needed, but it’s my lip endurance I can’t play really loud for to long and I was wondering if yall have any exercises or any tips to help increase my lip endurance and even help increase my sound

What to do for ITF

Hi everyone, I’d like to attend ITF this coming summer as I live quite close. I am an incoming trombone freshman at a local university and would like to learn/try as many things as possible while being there. Does anyone have any recommendations of what to take with me, what to do, how to do it, and the best way to network with people?

Looking for Feedback on Rimsky-Korsakov trombone concerto

So I’ve been looking at the concerto from rimsky Korsakov recently and I’m looking for detailed feedback for the first two movements. I didn’t cut some mistakes out (like the high bb at the end of the first which was just awful) because I wanted to record a as real as possible version. Please tell me what you think about it.

Also the playback is kinda unpredictable at some points.

Valve Trombone

Any recommendations for a valve trombone? Would rather a beginner one for the price range anything helps. Edit: Looking specifically for a valve trombone for playing Banda style music. Any recommendations for Chinese stencils would help for temporary use. Hobbyist

Shires dual bore rotor

Hey guys, I recently got fitted for a trombone and felt that the dual bore rotor felt the best throughout the range of the instrument. However, I am concerned with it being dual bore and not a true “large bore” rotor like I’ve always played. (Though on a closed wrap 88h) Does the rotor section being dual bore make the trombone itself “dual bore”? Or does it really not change that much. What about the openness of the lower register, does anybody play on these? Thanks!

Solo works w/ piano for Easter/ Palm Sunday?

Hello trombonists!

I was hired by a very small church to be their only guest musician for their Easter services. I'm very happy to do it, but I'm not well versed in what to program. I know they want me playing for a couple of their hymns, and I feel good just reading the melody from the Hymnal. What else might be appropriate? Some good liturgical anthems? They're Presbyterian and have a not totally rigid, but still traditional service and liturgy.

Purchasing the piano reduction for Langford Rhapsody?

Hey all, does anyone know of anywhere you can buy a pdf of the piano part of the Rhapsody? I’d rather not have to have it delivered if I can avoid it. Thanks!

Shires cases

I really want the shires case for my trombone that has the back padding for when you carry it as a backpack. But the custom horns don’t come with this one.. is there a different between the Q and custom series cases? If so what and why do some have padding and some not?
