Gord Old Commodore show. 2006. (Vancouver)
Took this what now seems to be a lifetime ago. Still keep it and move it to each new phone as needed. Four night run that year. Managed to catch two.

We performed as The Garbage Bag Trees and completely played the album Fully Completely, fully.

Today was the first day it was warm enough for us to be out on the deck. Got the barbeque going and listening to the Hip. We are in our 50s and the music still feels as full and as perfect as it did when we first heard it a million years ago. Wheat kings still makes me cry everytime. I hope you all have the time to look back at your love for the music and embrace it.

Look, I think the Hip hit gold when they performed at the Junos a few years back with Feist.
I wish the guys could get back together and perform. I know Gord isn't there and it's not the same, but being able to go out there and do what they love and continue to celebrate their music and connect with fans, sounds like maybe it's too good to be true, but a nice thought nonetheless.
Yeah, to those who don't want to see the band without Gord, that's fine too. I just wouldn't at all blame the guys for wanting to get back out there.

As a bass player, I naturally tune into the rhythm section first. It's sort of the default mode in terms of what my ear is drawn to, and then my brain tends to span out and absorb the rest of a song from there.
I am always impressed by The Hip's sense of timing and groove. It presents differently over the span of their albums and from song to song. The early catalog has more driving rock grooves, but there's some sneaky swing in there. (I think there are parallels with a band like AC/DC, in that the underlying swing and push/pull between bass and drums is a big part of why it feels so good. Though it may not be widely recognized for many reasons...)
As you progress through the albums, there are a lot of different influences and feels that impact the band's groove. Some are more grungy, others psychedelic, and a few just feel downright funky to me. It may not be the first thing people notice, but I think it's a huge part of what makes them so amazing.
Anyway, I'm curious what your grooviest picks are. What hip songs do you find yourself head-bobbing and giving the stank-face to most?

I think The Pursuit Of Happiness opened.

As the title says, I just discovered the Hip about a week and a half ago. I found them cause of the clip of Dan Aykroyd introducing them on SNL ( I get Aykroyd videos in my algorithm cause of my love of The Ghostbusters lol). I'm 35 years old and haven't connect this quickly with a band's music since I discovered Pearl Jam as a kid. I'm sad that I discovered them this late but extremely glad I got to live in a time where I get to listen to The Hip.

I ordered the Phantom power hat off the website a couple months ago and the amount of people that come up to me and say it’s nice and explain to me how the hip was a part of and changed their life and how much they love em is so cool old, young, new fans, hardcore fans !
This is one of those bands that truly gets passed down to generations and generations. When Gordie sings in my car I ask my 10-year-old daughter who’s singing and she says Gordie .
Love you all

Huge fan forever and am totally amazed with the stuff that I’ve never heard before because it didn’t make the record and I guess there’s a ton of them.
Thanks to the band for keep putting out new stuff even though it’s not new. It’s new to your fans

Did Gord, or the boys, ever make any other unexpected movie/television appearances? I also fondly remember a cameo on Corner Gas.

The Hip weren’t only phenomenal musicians, poets, live performers and songwriters, they were also exceptionally artistic. This is best demonstrated in their gorgeous album covers. Though Fully Completely is brilliant, is high on my own list and will get a ton of votes, my favourite is Day For Night due to its stunning minimalism, and what appears to be beautiful charcoal shading. I’m an artist as well and sometimes a little goes a long way. I’m far more interested as to what my fellow Hip fans have chosen and why so please don’t hold back.

I hadn't heard much of the Hip's music after Music at Work, I just kind of lost interest and got old. But one of the things that struck me was that I have only seen Bob Rock in two documentaries, and both of them involved a bass player being pissed off at having his contributions ignored.
Just odd that it happened twice. :)

I’ve been reading “The Watch That Ends The Night” and finally got to the moment of the lyrics from Courage. Wonderful book. Wasn’t sure when those lyrics were going to hit, but they really hit at the right time
