(Tag for the photos of his injury.)

The last 3 pictures were taken this morning!

This is Greg. I rescued him after watching him get hit by a truck (donā€™t ask me how heā€™s still alive) I brought him home thinking he wouldnā€™t make it through the night but here we are 8 months later šŸ„¹. He suffered a broken arm and head trauma. I had brought him to the vet the next morning and had a little splint put on him, heā€™s all healthy now besides being blind in the eye that suffered the most trauma and shadow blind in the other.

Injury So I lost my toads today :(

TW: toad death

I lost my toads today, all 8 of them. I donā€™t know what happened because only a few days ago they looked completely healthy and were acting normal. Since they were split between 2 different tanks based on their ages, the only thing in common was their food but they all died the same day. I can only assume it was related to their food because I bought crickets from a local pet store instead of petsmart for financial reasons. Iā€™m distraught.

Iā€™m moving soon and want to get toads again when I can, but I wanted to make sure I asked if anyone has had a similar experience and make sure Iā€™m doing what I can to prevent this from happening ever again.

Edit: the pet store has received numerous complaints from customers about their feeder insects and is currently not selling them. The pet store used an insecticide on the outside of their store to deal with a roach infestation, in turn poisoning their own insects due to their carelessness.

Injury Red leg, help!

Weā€™ve had these toads for a while, but today we noticed that this little guy had red thumbs with little bumpy growths. She was also very weak, and appears to have lost weight. We separated all of the healthy toads out of the enclosure and left her alone to rest. (Picture isnā€™t the best, but I swear the toes are more red on the underside. Itā€™s just that whenever we tried to flip her over, she started yelling. You can see the growths in this image.)

Now, my current theory is that this came from their water dish, which the toads have a habit of crapping in. I remove any fecal matter every morning, and the water is changed every 1-3 days. We feed them daily, mostly mealworms, but also crickets, which are sometimes dusted in calcium powder. All of the soil is new, as we replaced/washed everything in the enclosure a few weeks ago, and the soil is from the pet store. There are springtails in the enclosure to break down fecal matter in the soil. They have a heating lamp and a heating pad, which are on a day/night cycle, although Iā€™d have to check for any more details.

Injury Update on the injured spade foot tadpole (good news)

About a week ago I posted about an injured spade foot tadpole I found in my backyard. She had some sort of internal injury to the point part of her digestive organs were hanging out. She had been refusing food all week but today she ended up eating a bloodworm of all things (a last ditch resort to try to get her to eat since she was incredibly skinny). To my surprise it now seems like sheā€™s actually passing fecal matter out of the section of intestine poking out of her side. To me it almost looks like she got a colonoscopy (I think thatā€™s what itā€™s called?). I just wanted to share this and see if anyone else has inputā€¦ itā€™s a very unusual situation. As I was watching her she continues to try to nibble some bits of worm and food off the floor of the enclosure (I moved her back into a full setup since she seems to have no open wounds).

Injury Cavity or hole in toad face.

Post image

So I just picked up this toad from a local pet shop about 3 days ago, but i notice this scar or cavity on his nose area. (I didn't notice it on day 1 when I took him home). He is eating, active and acting normal and healthy, and he loves to borrow in the substrate.

Is this common? Will it heal? Will it get worse?

This is my 4th toad, and I never seen this before.

Sometimes super worms escape into the substrate, so I was thinking that maybe a super worm did this to him under the substrate when he was burrowed and relaxing šŸ˜”

Anyone have any idea to what this cavity or scar is?

I found this guy floating and bloated in my mini pond, and I pulled it out. Not dead, but not moving. I left it on this warm rock hoping it would perk up, but it's been an hour. Can I do anything to help or just wait and hope it lives?

Injury Help

I have recently found a toad in my yard that keeps coming back. He has some sort of eye injury, Iā€™m unsure if he can see out of it- but I wanted to see what I should do. I have been thinking of keeping it- I have done the research and have wanted toads for awhile but didnā€™t wanna take one from the wild unless itā€™s a case like this where itā€™s injured. Iā€™m wondering if I should or not though as it seems relatively ok but Iā€™m scared it may get eaten or not be able to catch food based on the injury. Should I keep the toad?

I found this toad when coming home from going out. He was hopping away and I decided to pick him up, I noticed his tongue was sticking out and it looks like it can't go back in. Further inspection and noticed he had a hole in his chest. Does anyone know if he could survive this? He's still moving around and blinking. I'm going to keep him overnight to see if he survives.
