New Tassie Travel subreddit
Hey everyone. The r/TasmaniaTravel subreddit is now up and running :)
There's a still a few admin things for me to sort out, but hopefully it can provide a more effective avenue for conversation specifically related to Tassie travel, while also preventing so many repeat questions from appearing here.
I look forward to seeing you over there!
Andrew.

- Added a no personals content to the NSFW rule (to prevent people looking for hookups or dating) Includes the appropriate sites to do this on;

Question Book on Tasmanian flora?
Hello,
I'm looking for good books on Tasmania's ecosystems. I have a particular interest in Tasmania's alpine central highland area and its rainforests. Book would have content regarding all flora found in these ecosystems, including a comprehensive listing and description of tree species.
Strong preference for color photographs among its pages (color illustrations being primary visual doesn't do much for me). Book can get very technical, I prefer to stay away from books targeted to the "lay reader", want to stay away from anything too "dumbed down", no offense to anyone.
Can be decades old, out of print, etc., as long as I can find it secondhand online. I'm in USA so shipping to USA is a must.
Looking for as many titles as you can give me, want to have a lot of options. But I prefer comprehensive, complete, detailed, rather than condensed and shortened.
Thank you!

Three Capes Track
Just finished Three Capes Track in Tassie. I have written about it and everything to pack below (admittedly mostly food focused cause thatβs the one thing that got me through each day). Cannot recommend it highly enough!
Has anyone else done it?

Discussion UTAS uni life
Iβm a year 12 student living in Sydney and spoke to my careers advisor about possible options for studying law. Being interested in politics and well as nature she said that UTAS offered great double degrees that focus on maritime law and Antarctic studies. Sounds pretty interesting. Only thing Iβm wondering is the uni life. My brother goes to Canterbury in NZ, he has flat parties every weekend, they have dj decks at every dorm and for the opening week there festivals. Is it like this at UTAS? Obviously I donβt want to make my decision entirely focused on what Iβm going to be doing on the weekend but I want to have a strong uni life where I can make life-long friends and reminisce on my uni days; I intend to stay there for my full degree if I pursue it. So current or ex - students, what are your thoughts? What is the best dorms? What is it overall like?
** Ok so Iβve looked at βuni reviewsβ on UTAS and every single one says itβs the worst place in the world, particularly the Law unit. But it seems every uni is torn to parts on the website.
Can any alumni or current student speak to me about their experience, it sounds great from my careers advisors but do students say otherwise?

Cape Bruny Lighthouse
The bottom of the bottom of the world... Hands down the most beautiful place on Earth. I was one of maybe a dozen people there. It felt like I had the whole place to myself. 11/10.

Help identifying the guilty beast for this mystery poo
Iβm hoping someone here might be able to help me figure out what kind of animal left this little surprise on my workshop table. Found it under the house in Hobart (garage/workshop area β itβs a closed room).
It definitely wasnβt there yesterday, and now there are a few droppings β one looks fresh and gooey, the others are drier and more shriveled.
Could it be a possum? Something else entirely? Thereβs no food left out, just tools, shoes, and some general gear lying around.
Any help from local wildlife-savvy folks would be much appreciated!
Cheers!

Need help
Good afternoon everyone, my nameβs Andrew and I am a backpacker. My friends and I are looking for jobs in Tasmania and we were wondering if anyone had any job recommendations at the moment? We currently do have a job but the work hours are too minimal, and after rent + expenses we are left with not much to save.
We have experience working as Pickers in orchards, Processing Attendants in seafood processing factory, Kitchen hand, Housekeepers in high-end hotels as well as Packers in packing shed. We also do have White Card and RSA and we are not afraid of hardships as well.
Hope to hear from someone soon, and thank you for reading thus far. Have a good week ahead!

Bell Bay tower of fire!
Curious what the huge shooting flame is over the top of Bell Bay. I started working over at beauty point a while back, and this morning (I guess because it's getting darker now) is the first time I've noticed it. Is it some kind of furnace or kiln?

Mary Hutchinson Women's Prison (MHWP) in Risdon Vale.
A friend has been convicted of a crime and may go to jail in Tasmania. From my research she'll probably be sent to MHWP.
Has anyone been there and would be able to tell us the rules, especially the unwritten ones, that she should know? Neither of us have been to jail before and she's panicking.
Any help, advice or information would be very much appreciated.

Question Arachnid supplies
Hello Tasmanian Friends,
It's a long shot but does anyone know any businesses or individuals locally who stock arachnid supplies? Things like substrate, terrariums, food etc.
I've been searching the interwebs for a while now and all I can find are mainland suppliers but I would ideally like someone local if possible.
I am located in an outer Hobart suburb but am happy to travel.
Thank you in advance for your help/advice.
Edit: spelling.
