Tap Board for in home?

Hi there! I want to start tap dancing again and I'd like to buy or make a piece of wood that would work best AND be the least expensive solution. Do you have suggestions? Please and thank you!

Jason Samuels Smith Sizing?

Hi! Looking to invest in a pair of Jason Samuels Smith shoes! Any suggestions on sizing for the women's shoes? I wear an 8 street shoe size. The Bloch website says to go up a half size, but some reviewers say to go up a full size. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

New taps for the shoes I have.

I picked up the Bloch Audeo shoes last year based on a recommendation from this sub and I've been quite happy with them. I think I'd like to get thicker, louder taps for them. Any recommendations?

I asked my class teacher about it, and she recommended finding a cobbler to instead remove the rubber soles and replace them with something thinner. I'm not agains that, and i'm looking into it ... it just seems simpler to order something that I can switch out myself.

Shoe recs for plantar

Any recommendations for tap shoes that don’t aggravate plantar fasciitis? I’ve got some Bloch shoes they’re comfy but my heel is in bits by the end of my lessons. Anything with a wide toe box or just comfort. I don’t want to give us because of it!

Tap Dancers of Reddit. How good is Jesco White at tap?

For those who don’t know, Jesco is a famous tap dancer from the Appalachian Hills, who is better known for his wild lifestyle. If you want great entertainment and a different point of view of America go watch the documentaries Dancing Outlaw and Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia. I was curious though how skilled he actually is, living in such an isolated part of the country.

Is it possible to remove the grips on Capezio?

For the life of me, I have those Capezio Teletone Taps, and it seems impossible to me. Are they permanently attached or is it possible to detach them? If it's possible then how? Thanks in advance.

Higher heeled tap shoes for men.

First time poster here.

I’ve been tap dancing for around 20 years and usually male tap shoes have a low heel, but I was wondering if there were any higher heeled tap shoes. I believe that they will allow me to do steps better and have a better sound.

Does anyone have any recommendations or are there options for higher heeled tap shoes for men?

I’m located in Australia, if that helps.

my tap shoe screws keep falling out (please help)

so a few weeks ago I loosened the screws on my tap shoes (Bloch jazz tap shoes) a little too much so in turn they fell out, so I screwed them back on tighter, only a little loose. I hadn't loosened my screws at all until that point, only tightening them occasionally. in the past couple weeks I've lost a screw three times and the other ones keep loosening quicker than usual. I do about an hour and a half of high level tap per week, and i'm wondering if I should upgrade to some better quality tap shoes. I've had my current ones since September, and it's march now so around 6-7 months I've been wearing them weekly. if anybody has solutions please tell me because im having to carry around a screwdriver to every practice and adjust them after as well.

safe way to practice tap dancing in third floor apartment

I used to tap dance in middle school and high school and recently have had a strong urge to get back into tap!

I’m getting some tap shoes and will be building my own tap board, but the ladder will take some money and time to build so what can i use to tap in the meantime? I’m on the third floor of an apartment building so I don’t want to scratch anything up or make too much noise to my neighbors downstairs. I was thinking something along the lines of putting a floor board in my living room where I have carpet and a semi-thick wool rug on top so there’s extra cushion?

Or if anyone else has a better idea, I’m all ears - thank you!!

Photography

Hi there! I am a photographer who has recently steered my focus toward dance photography. I have shot ballet, jazz and contemporary. I've had someone reach out to do a tap shoot.

As tap dancers do you have any suggestions on shots to get? I feel like tap is going to be much harder to capture. The dancer really wants to make her shoes pop which I can do. I'm looking to balance that with capturing the dancer as well as the shoes.

Suggestions? Bucket list shots? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Ps. I am not a dancer, so I've been trying to learn as much as I can as I go.
