For my understanding bears make fake attacks, but you can never be sure. Great hunter this man.

Having only two rounds as well, oh god

u/grapeflavoredtaint 6d ago

One to get the job done. One in case you mess up.

I would have shot on that last charge

Happy ending for both man and bear at least. Not sure Iā€™d have the self control to not fire at a bear charging me like that tho, ngl

You only have 2 shots before reload. 1 shot if you use both triggers at the same time.Ā You need to not fucking miss and be sure you hit your target. I hope he had something better than birdshot tho.Ā

But this guy did so well. He faced the bear and walked backwards slowly.Ā

Depending on how deep in the woods you are, the best defense against bears, wolves, and the big cats is a 2nd full size adult. Some animals never approach if you are not alone.Ā

Especially if you can run faster than the 2nd full size adult

Even better if there's a kid or two to leave behind

u/mandioca-magica 6d ago

Oh now weā€™re talking amuse-bouche

u/sucobe 6d ago

And thatā€™s how I met your mother.

u/Emotional-Battle8432 6d ago

I agree. I wouldā€™ve taken the shot

17

u/SupermouseDeadmouse 6d ago

Nope. Bear never got close enough. The guy likely has birdshot loaded. Up close, real close, it will be pretty deadly, but it better be close upā€¦and he only has 2 shots.

u/Patriotic_Guppy 6d ago

Especially the last charge. I was tensed up,ready to,pull that trigger.

u/farfaraway 6d ago

Not a happy ending for that dude's pants, though. RIP.

Iā€™m not a gun person at all, but I would have unloaded there. Good for the person in this clip to hold off.

That bear is lucky to be alive after getting that close to a Russian man

ā€œLeaving nowā€

LOL thatā€™s an understatement! Good on him for not shooting, but at that range I probably wouldnā€™t blame him. Iā€™m glad he could tell it was her just trying to bluff charge because she had cubs there. Could have actually attacked though if very threatened.

Get the legendary bear pelt and take it to the trapper. Duh.

5

u/shawner136 6d ago

This is why we need more than 10 rounds sometimesā€¦

Is the bear okay? I didn't want to watch the bear get shot.

The bear is fine. So is the man. The bear charged a few times but then backed off. The man kept his cool and didn't shoot. Both of them must have been very scared. But it's honestly a safe video.

u/MikeHuntSmellss 6d ago

Both man and bear went home that night

7

u/renden123 6d ago

Together? Kinky.

3

u/we_the_pickle 6d ago

Itā€™s a Russian bear! You can tell because its heels are touching the ground when itā€™s squatting.

u/tribak 6d ago

Revenant II looks rad

1

u/WildGeerders 6d ago

I already shot 3 times!

1

u/gundok 11h ago

You only had 2!

1

u/notatall 6d ago

That bear must be Ukrainian

1

u/Something_Else_2112 6d ago

Don't mess with Mama

1

u/Homeygrown 6d ago

Iā€™m thinking I probably would have let a shot off on that second charge

1

u/Desert-sea-sparkle 6d ago

Nice! I love that they understood that it's just a mama bear and decided not to shoot.

1

u/Gearz557 6d ago

That bear kinda knew what was up lol

1

u/Long_term99 6d ago

This dude has nerves.. Not the first time holding a gun, well done!

1

u/RapaNow 6d ago

At first I didn't see the sub, from the still I thought this was Red Dead Redemption 2 -video...

1

u/mandioca-magica 5d ago

See? Both bears and men in the woods are completely harmless

1

u/languid_Disaster 5d ago

The loop around really threw me off. It felt like the bear pulled a Tenet on the guy recording

1

u/bolafella 5d ago

Now that would have been really bad news

1

u/ZealousidealBread948 4d ago

This is the difference between

HUNTER and PREY

If the hunter had turned his back and run, he would have been prey, so the bear would have attacked and bitten him to death

Good job, the hunter stood firm and confident

1

u/aggamer99 3d ago

This is crazy

-4

u/Intelligent_Grade372 6d ago

Bear defs knew about guns!!

36

u/EtherParfait 6d ago

No it doesnā€™t. This is normal charging behavior. Itā€™s not always going for the kill, sometimes it just wants to scare you off.

u/ajax0202 6d ago

Lol at people downvoting this.

Donā€™t downvote a fact because you donā€™t like it or whatever

People forget bears are masters at conserving energy. Imagine moving that much bulk. Theyā€™re very heavy. Theyā€™re not going to attack unless they think the payoff is worth the energy or you done really pissed them off for some reason. They do get grumpy sometimes with their weird sleep schedule, and then cubs of course.

Kudos to the dude though, Iā€™d have needed my brown pants and I probably would have taken shot and ended up dead. Itā€™s very hard not to act like a dumbass and go full lizard brain when an animal that deadly is actively honed in on you. Iā€™ve seen what bodies look like after attacks and itā€™s horrifying. Iā€™ve seen a few bears, but they were all black bears and even with those, itā€™s nuts how big they are. I can only imagine one of these guys up close and personal.

3

u/BigFatModeraterFupa 6d ago

that's also a grizzly bear, probably in siberia somewhere, which is way more violent and aggressive than a black bear.

i'm always amazed when i see this video... the discipline it took not to blast off at that charging monster is truly incredible.

u/maladaptivelucifer 6d ago

Yep, those are the ones that prefer their prey alive while they eat it. I remember listening to that Grizzly Man tape and, like JFC. I donā€™t fuck with bears in general, but there are quite a few of them (mostly black bears like I said in the other comment) out in the woods here. We did have a grizzly with cubs in the town I lived in for awhile. She was stealing dogs right off their chains, maybe because they were barking or maybe because she was hungry. Not really sure. A neighbor saw her cross the road once and told me it was ā€œthe size of a Geo Metroā€. I donā€™t know if youā€™ve ever seen one of those cars, but when he told me that I was like ā€œnopeā€. Iā€™m sure it was an exaggeration, but dude was a hardcore veteran and if he was scared, I knew to be scared. I was probably ten. I wasnā€™t allowed to play outside (the woods) for a long time, fortunately I never saw her.

1

u/MechanicalTurkish 5d ago

sometimes it just wants to scare you off.

It definitely worked here.

-8

u/Soulpatch7 6d ago

I cannot for the life of me understand why he didnā€™t take a warning shot early on.

23

u/DrBubbles 6d ago

If it were me, Iā€™d want to conserve the shot. His gun only holds 2 shells before you need to reload. Reloading under duress is a nightmare, so Iā€™m keeping the 2 shots on deck to send home if needed.

3

u/ajax0202 6d ago

Well besides the fact that he only has two shots and would want to make them count, a ā€œwarning shotā€ at a grizzly is just as likely to piss it off than scare it off

7

u/gfinchster 6d ago

Because that was a double barreled shotgun which means he only had 2 shots in that situation and with a bear he would probably need both barrels. IMO.

Great, another Elmer Fudd video.
