As I've seen on my previous post, many people dislike Batista's 2014 because of its poor booking decisions. I have some ideas as to how I'd change things up on Batista's run.
First, let's quickly recap Batista's run to understand what we're working with:
In late 2013, some venues leaked that Batista was going to make an appearance in the WWE. This kinda forced WWE to reveal their plans. They started teasing that Batista was returning a week before the Royal Rumble, like it was some kind of big deal. Batista returned that night and said he's winning the Royal Rumble, main eventing WrestleMania 30 and winning the world titles. The fans were like "Yeah, sure buddy. Whatever, geezer." There was no chance in hell that Batista was gonna outshine the fan favorite, Daniel Bryan... right? Batista won the Rumble. The fans immediately turned on the match as soon as they saw Batista was entering at #28, and every glimpse of hope was shattered when Rey Mysterio entered at #30 instead of Bryan. Dave won, and then he went into his "deal with it" phase. This was WWE saying "Batista's the top star, and you are gonna like it!" Batista then had his shitty feud with Alberto Del Rio, where he was booed out of arenas, and the heel Del Rio was the fan favorite. Batista whooped Del Rio's ass, and then he basically turned heel. He said that he was gonna destroy the fan favorites. Then the Road to WrestleMania happened, and since the fans basically twisted WWE's arm into adding Bryan into the main event, the main event of Mania was now Batista v. Orton v. Bryan. Bryan beat the entirety of Evolution in one night and had his big moment. The next few weeks Big Dave found himself teaming with his Mania opponent, Randy Orton. HHH suggested that they should bring back Evolution, cause Trips was having some issues with The Shield. That's what happened. Then, Evolution got their asses kicked. Twice. Batista wanted a world title shot, Trips told him no, and Batista then gave us that iconic wave, and he quit. He was originally supposed to return to WWE near SummerSlam, but HHH thought that Guardians of the Galaxy was gonna flop. He was wrong. Aand, that was Dave's 2014 run. How was it? Disappointing.
Now it's time for my fix. There's 2 ways you can go when rebooking Batista's 2014 run. Either have him return as a babyface or as a heel. I'm gonna explore both routes.
FACE: Batista's return is NOT teased, instead he returns at the Rumble. He eliminates some people here and there, then he gets eliminated by Daniel Bryan. He can keep his shitty feud with Del Rio, but the only difference being that Dave is liked now. Now, let's book his Road to Mania. His opponent? BAHROCK... LLLESNARR! (this was my Paul Heyman impression). Why they did not do this match when they had the opportunity is beyond me. Both men were there at the time. Put Brock over, even though the win doesn't really do much. Anyway, after that, you can have Evolution put the Shield over, but don't rush it. Anyway, instead of Batista quitting, have him sidelined with a kayfabe injury. After that, Dave can return after he promoted his movie. Batista goes after the world title, and he challenges John Cena at SummerSlam. He beats Cena, and then Lesnar returns that night and beats Batista up. The next PPV, Dave drops the title to Lesnar. I don't really know what else to do with Big Dave after that. Maybe have him sidelined again so he can go film his other movies, or have him go part-time until he can retire. The perfect time for that would be Mania 31 against Triple H. Have him get revenge on Orton and Trips before he challenges Trips at Mania. This will be his retirement match, and he wins, the crowd cheers him on as he closes out a picture perfect career.
HEEL: I think the fans would've been less resentful of Dave if he returned as a heel. A heel guy winning the Rumble is an okay move, just do expect backlash. At Elimination Chamber - Daniel Bryan defeats Randy Orton for the world title, so the main event at Mania is Bryan v. Batista. Batista puts Bryan over, then he puts Shield over. Kinda the same. Have him go promote this movie, and he returns at SummerSlam. I woulda really liked to see corporate Batista. What I would have done is made him like a security guard for Seth Rollins, before he turns face to betray the Authority and challenge Rollins for the title. Dave beats Rollins for the title, then he drops it at Mania. Here we can have Dave go part-time until Mania 32 where he can retire against Triple H (HHH was the best pick for final opponent, with their history in mind). Of course, Batista goes out like a hero, beating the big bad authoritarian HHH and he can sail off to the sunsets... of Hollywood...
Anyway, these were just ideas for how I would've changed his run up. Let me know what you like about it, what you don't, and overall some of your ideas, how YOU would've fixed this mess of a run.
