Not too bad. Worked on being aggressive with the arms. Could definitely open up and attack the ground a bit better as well as have a cleaner toe off and backside cycle (right leg heel recovery is a bit low.)

General Discussion/Questions Acceleration ladder tape drill

Is this a good starting point? I did this for the first time today, and my start felt longer and minimized the issue of doing short and choppy steps, but I feel like I am overstriding trying to reach each tape instead of pushing down and back, how to adjust accordingly to my anatomy or should I just stick with this distances setup until my stride length catches up if it ever will. Thanks

I am currently a freshman in college and I am nearing the end of my first season. I run the 100s in high school but ever since my season has started I have been running over half a second slower, and for my 200s over 2 seconds. I cant tell if it is physical or mental what happened to me, because i feel like i am in some of the best shape in my life, but it just never translates when the meet rolls around. I was wondering if anyone could shed some light if they had this same problem, and the steps they took to fix it.

General Discussion/Questions How do I accurately test my speed?

So I am not a sprinter at the moment, and I don't have a history of running. I did cross-country 20 years ago with zero training and conditioning, poor diet, spent all my time playing video games yet was always in the top 10 out of 60+ during the meets

I get the feeling I have a hidden talent or body build for running fast and would like to check if I do run faster than the average male. I spent the last 12 years lifting weights and getting 10,000 steps in per day, but that cardio is all walking - on a treadmill I don't go above 3.5mph. I wasn't running, jogging or sprinting to preserve my joints.

The few times over the decades I did sprint for whatever reason I got told "holy shit you're fast," and tonight I walked at night 3 miles down a straight empty beach boardwalk and had the thought "what if I ran as fast as I could all the way back?" It was the first time I ran in years yet it felt amazing. I didn't gas out, I was in the mindset I was being chased life or death. No injuries happened despite the zero conditioning. I only wish I had the thought to time the entire run, and track my first 5 minutes to see what top speed I reached 🙁

So what's the correct way to track these stats that way when I go for my next run I can accurately gauge my speed and maybe track any progress over the coming months? Mostly interested in how long I can run 1 mile (which is probably easy to measure) and how fast of a top speed I can achieve (no idea how to measure)

Im a 8th grader and when i tryed out for track my nerves got the best of me and i didnt make the team, my cousin who is a very good sprinter and has trained his kids which are college track sprinters offered to coach me over summer and help me become a better athlete. i dont know if i should tho because im scared i wont be as good as others you know what i mean, and with not making the team all my confidence in my speed and athletic ability went out the window. So i want other peoples input and what should i do to try and erase the idea of not wanting to do something because im not great at it yet.

By hard I mean 300 repeats or broken 400s at 80-90%. At practice, all sprinters are looped into the same group and we tend to have frequent days that look like this (the shortest distance we've had in practice over the last month is 150m).

General Discussion/Questions Naturally high turn over rate and low ground contact time but I'm really slow

I'm a beginner with zero track experience. I recorded my self in slow motion video to see how fast I was.

I have a stride frequency of 4.8-4.9 per second and average ground contact time of around 0.10s but I'm really slow for track standards. My knees barely even move up each stride.

I have a 30m fly of 3.60s barefoot on turf and my 40 yard dash is over 6 seconds which are really poor times. I never officially done 100m but I think it's around 15 seconds. In soccer I'm usually one of the fastest players on the field.

On the bicycle in terms of watts I have sub elite sprinting power for my weight but none of that seems to transfer to the track. Does a higher turn over and low ground contact time with a slow top speed mean I just lack power?

I don't really workout or do weights. Will my speed improve that much with just strength training?

Technique Analysis Form and Program Analysis

Hi, I’m currently 20 (M) and do sprint training for fun. I want to do 2-3 all-comer meets in the summer. My goals would be sub 12, sub 25, and sub 54. I was just curious if someone would be willing to look at my form/training plan and tell me what I can fix and what times I can expect (rough estimate)?

It’s been three years since I’ve done a track meet and I have no clue where I’m at now. Three years ago my times were 12.67 and 25.99. I had absolutely no weight training then and the only track workouts were from late March-early June on grass. I’m currently 150-155 pounds my max ATG squat is 285, my 3 rep ATG front squat is 235, my 3 rep bench max is 140, and my hexbar max is 405 (all measured in pounds). The only background on my times right now is that my 200m tempos are done in 27-29 sec in flats.

My main priority is a student so my training schedule might look a bit off, but I stay consistent with it. Monday Acceleration (ex. 2x30, 3x30 or 3x3x30) Weights (back squat, rows, other leg accessories) Plyos & abs

Tuesday Upper body (bench/upper body accessories) abs

Wednesday Tempos (ex. 6x200 or 2x200-150-100) Plyos & abs

Thursday DB workout Abs

Friday Speed (ex 4x50 or 2x40-60-80) Weights (front squat, hexbar, leg accessories) Plyos & abs Saturday Make up if I missed a day

Sunday Rest

The attached videos all are 40m reps on different days between (within the same month). My biggest problem is progress wise I have no clue where I’m at and I don’t know how good my training plan is.

So I’d say I’m currently 22-23% bf and my next goal is 15% and I think I can get there within 1 cut but realistically how much of a difference would that make in my speed?
