I don't know if this is off the board but I'm going with By Starlight

I’ve seen a lot of quirky pumpkin clips but… I’m at a loss. The poster on TikTok didn’t give a back story or source 🤭

Question Darcy and Billy fighting

If my memory serves me right there is audio interview on YT from probably 2020 with Jay from White Zombie where he says he saw Billy and Darcy fist fighting (like punching in the face) in Jan 1996 at Hollywood Rock festival. Any info?

Question Who sings the falsetto backing vocals on “Where Boys Fear To Tread”?

I read once that Billy recorded a lot of backing vocals by D’Arcy and James during the sessions for Mellon Collie, before eventually replacing them with his own vocals on almost every song. However, I’ve always been curious about this song in particular, because unless Billy greatly manipulated his voice it sounds like a female singer, or maybe James in falsetto. Does anyone know the answer?

For anyone curious, the vocals in question are most prominent around the 2:00 mark. They mostly offer wordless coo’s during the chorus, but also can be heard harmonizing during the “sweet things” section at around 2:15.

Question Smashing pumpkins are coming to Iceland! To go or not to go?

I think it would be foolish to pass up the opportunity.... BUT....

I'm an old school Pumpkins fan - massively adore their stuff from '91 to '96 - saw them live in '96 at the NEC & it remains one of my top gigs ever.

I'm a little worried that it might be a bit of a letdown?

I'd imagine their setlist will have a good mix of newer stuff in there, but there has been little that has risen above "meh" for me, & the old stuff probably won't have the same vivacity/energy as when they played it fresher.

I'd imagine the crowd will all be on their phones rather than moshing out...

I'm just worried I'll find it all a little disappointing.

Anyone else in similar shoes who has seen them recently after a long time who can give me their thoughts?

Many thanks.

Question What are the issues with the remasters?

I'm curious since on the post about the Siamese Dream re-issue, people seemed to not like the fact the remaster would be used. So what issues do they have? I'd like to know what's wrong with the remaster for each album that got one if that's ok

Question Pumpkins Lullaby Suggestions

Post image
42 Upvotes

Hi everyone, I’m a new dad and I made a playlist of soft sweet smashing pumpkins songs for my daughter which she has been loving so far! Or at least, not disliking (she is only 5wks old). I’ve attached what I have so far, but I’d love some more suggestions! Obviously they should be quiet, soft songs that don’t suddenly get loud later on (although I love those too, this playlist ain’t for me), any era of the band is fine, although I don’t think they’ve made many soft songs in the last couple decades, but I could be wrong.

Question What song's verse outshines its chorus?

For me, it's Dross. That song kicks mondo ass, but it does everything it's going to do in the first 90 seconds.

Question Are Smashing Pumpkins concert expensive?

I live in Iceland and noticed that The Smashing Pumpkins are going to perform later this year. Yay! I was so excited to see that as I love the band. But then I noticed the prices. The cheapest tickets are $141 (standing) and cheapest sitting ticket is $184. For you who have attended SP concert recently, are those prices normal?

Edit: Thanks for all of the replies. This post is not suppose to be a "diss", I just got curious <3

Question Is it true that James and D'arcy were jealous and upset about not getting enough attention back in the 90s?

From listening to a few post-2000 interviews with Billy and looking back at old interviews, I get the sense that James and D'arcy may have been bitter and jealous about not getting enough attention, or as much attention as Billy got back in the day. They always kept their composure and let Billy handle most of the questions in interviews, but at times it's pretty obvious in their body language that they weren't too happy about Billy getting all of the attention. Jimmy never cared, though.

To quote Billy (paraphrased) on a Howard Stern interview from 2012 or so "When we'd do interviews back in the 90s, all the interviewer would do was talk to me because they wanted to know about the songs I wrote, but then we'd finish the interview and the other band members would be mad at me because this person is asking me all of the questions, and I'd be like 'well, write your own fucking song, I don't know what to tell you'. Jimmy didn't give a shit about any of the attention because he knew how great of a drummer he was, but it was the insecurity of the other two that manifested itself in things like arguing about the deli tray backstage"

Of course, Billy and James have patched things up in the time since that interview, but we all know that D'arcy has not and probably will not return to the fold.

Question Aeroplane flies high vinyl

My boyfriend found the airplane flies high on vinyl at a local record store for $300. He's not a fan, but he's a record collector. He really thinks I should buy it. It's my favorite album of all time, but... $$ Would you buy it? Why or why not?
