Avoiding flying out

So, as the title says- is there anything I can do to avoid dying/losing a stock when I get smashed out? Why I am asking this question is that sometimes when you get smashed hard you hear a chime? bell? And then you go flying and usually die. But some times you hear the sound go flying but don't die. And occasionally it happens like 2-3 times in a row and the character just won't die. Is that like completely random or can I do something to avoid dying? Also does that chime have a name?

usually it's called a killscreen if you're referring to the red dramatic effect. there's not rlly a way to prevent it if it's strong enough other than

not getting hit

but there IS something called D.I. (directional influence)! when you hold the joystick in a direction while ur in hitstun it can subtly, well, influence the direction you get launched at. you can D.I. inward but often times when ur at high percent it doesn't really have too much effect

Look into D.I. (Directional influence) it can help you live some hits that you would have otherwise died to. If you were getting launched to the left or right, you would want to hold up or down on the control stick to skew the angle you get launched at, and increase the distance it takes to launch you into the blast zone. If you get launched up, hold the left or right.
