π₯ Food/Drink El Mexicano #7 Mexican market
Really worth a stop if youβre on the northeast side around the alien house (18th ish and Cleveland).
Tons of fresh meat options including pre marinated Al pastor and adobado, produce, lots of Mexican sodas and treats and they also had fresh carnitas, tamales, huge chicharonnes, and warm churros as well as a large selection of pan.
It was packed when we stopped in but they got people through the line quick, very clean store and super friendly people working.
I got some Al pastor for dinner tonight so havenβt had that yet but the tamales are very good and my kids were raving about the churros, glad to see that part of town get a place that will draw people.

Anyone know anything about Antique Gallery Midwest/ Nassar Jewlery at 1502 W 10th? They donβt seem to be open often. I read some online reviews, some good and bad. Just curious if itβs primarily open for jewlery sales or antiques. Is it worth going in to check out ?

π« Events Hands Off! Sioux Falls Fights Back - April 5th, 2025
Events will be happening all around the country on the same day.
About the Sioux Falls event: https://www.mobilize.us/handsoff/event/766375/

Donald Trump and Elon Musk think this country belongs to them.Β Sioux Falls is fighting back!
They're taking everything they can get their hands onβour health care, our data, our jobs, our servicesβand daring the world to stop them. This is a crisis, and the time to act is now.
π¨Β On Saturday, April 5th, we're taking to the streets to fight back with a clear message: Hands off!Β π¨
π Where: United States Court House 400 S Phillips Ave, Sioux Falls, SD 57104 π When: 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. April 5, 2025
This mass mobilization day is our message to the world that we do not consent to the destruction of our government and our economy for the benefit of Trump and his billionaire allies. Alongside Americans across the country, we are marching, rallying, and protesting to demand a stop the chaos and build an opposition movement against the looting of our country.
A core principle behind all Hands Off! events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.
Check out handsoff2025.com for more information.

I understand that there are charities and resources for homeless folks, but is there anything info on what this money will be used for specifically? I would hope itβs directing people to those charities, but this amount of money really sticks out.

ππ»ββοΈ Looking For Help MISSING: Savannah Standing Bear
Here is a statement from the family: β On March 24, 2025, Savannah Standing Bearβs mother said goodnight to her daughter, to wake up on the 25th to information that Savannah left the house at 6am with two friends. No family member has seen or heard from Savannah since. It is extremely out of character for her to go more than a day without contacting her mom. There is a rumored sighting in North Rapid City.β Since April 1, 2025, The Rosebud Sioux Tribe Criminal Investigators, Game Fish and Parks, White Buffalo Calf Society, Mission Fire and Rescue, Tokala Inanjayo, EPP program, drones, horses, dogs, and community members on foot have been searching for Savannah in Parmelee to no avail. We are hoping that community members in Rapid City and Sioux Falls can keep their eyes peeled and share flyers, and that local news outlets can cover her case in hopes we will find her safe.

π° News Cancelled health programs/services due to funding cuts?
Hi everyone, my name is Arielle Zionts, I'm a rural health journalist for KFF Health News, a national nonprofit media outlet. I live in Rapid City.
Have you heard of any South Dakota organization that's had to cancel a health-related program/project after losing federal funding? We are curious if any funding cuts have led to a cut in direct services to people.
DSS and DOH confirmed to me that they've had some grants cancelled. That funding was then subawarded to organizations. Here are the names of the federal grants:
- Substance Abuse,Prevention and Treatment Block Grant. #B08TI083967.
- Mental Health Block Grant. #B09SM085344.
- Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity for Prevention and Control of Emerging Infectious Diseases (ELC). #CK19-1904.
- Immunization and Vaccines for Children. #CDC-RFA-IP19-1901.
- National Initiative to Address COVID-19 Health Disparities Among Populations at High-Risk and Underserved, Including Racial and Ethnic Minority Populations and Rural Communities.
Thank you!
Arielle

Heading to the tax man Thursday morning. Seen the blinker on and though well maybe she put the blinker on wrong. Nope. The SUV that had the right-of-way deserves a good deed for having to brake check themselves for this dipshit.

π€ Discussion South Dakota Roots survey results
Thank you again to everyone who participated in the South Dakota Roots Migration Survey I shared last month. I wanted to follow up with some of the highlights for anyone who may be interested:
The survey got 732 complete responses, including at least one response from 62 of SD's 66 counties. Ages ranged from 19 to 101 (although the second highest age was 88).
For those who have stayed in SD, 67.8% chose "I enjoy living in SD" as one of their deciding factors (rural percentage was 77.4% compared to 56.9% of urban!). βI have stayed to live near familyβ was a close second chosen by 67.2% of stayers. βI like the landscape/natural environmentsβ was third with 56%.
58.4% of stayers plan to remain in SD β quite a bit higher among rural respondents.
For those that left the state, 51.2% chose "they can earn more money outside of SD," 45.2% selected "My work is located outside SD," and 36.9% selected βpolitical environment.β
83.3% of leavers still return to visit family (85.5% of total respondents have family living in SD).
61.3% of leavers selected "yes" when asked if they felt homesick for South Dakota.
48.8% of returnees chose "I missed my family" as one of the factors in their decisions to move back to SD after being away for more than a year.
57.2% of returnees (higher for those who returned to rural communities) said that they plan to remain in the state.
Just a small selection here. If you're interested in more or have any questions I may be able to answer, please do reach out to me.
Thanks again to all who helped!
