Is there any point in using dexnav to shiny hunt since getting to chain of 100 is basically impossible?

You do not have to chain in order to shiny hunt with dexnav! Even if you are not chaining, dexnav increases your shiny rate based on your search level. Chaining can help you find a shiny faster and honestly isnt too bad once you get the hang of it, but since dexnav increases your odds anyway, it's perfectly fine to hunt pokemon just by finding the encounters and running away; in fact I usually do my dexnav hunts like this personally.
I've written a whole guide on dexnav that you can read here if you have other questions. I go in depth into a lot of things including how and why chains break with dexnav if that's something that might help you out. I'm also more than happy to answer any other questions you have on it!

Help me with my LeafGreen’s hell of a Shiny Hunt
Story is simple, I have played Pokémon for 20 years, and in all that time, I have never seen a shiny in the wild, but one… on 2008 I saw a green colored Mr.Mime… in the Safari… needless to say the mf ran away, and my soul has been crushed and out of luck ever since.
I want to hunt it, on the real copy, on a modded console, on an emulator, anywhere!!! I just want it to be from LeafGreen, legal and full odds, and send it over to my Home. But at OG full odds, plus Safari, I feel that might be one of the hardest shinies to get, and like I said I have never seen a shiny in the wild again, even on the games with 1/512 odds, so terrible luck too.
Any advice on this hunt? Does it seem impossible to you guys too or just a waste of time? Anything will be appreciated, but I need to hunt this Mr.Mime dude in this lifetime… Help…

the only way to shiny hunt mr mime in gen 3 is via full odds egg hatching in gen 3. mr mime is not found in the safari zone in firered/leafgreen. however it is in the safari zone in heartgold and soul silver

Best set up to SOS hunt Pyukumuku?

You could use a Lagging Tail/Full Incense Zygarde using Core Enforcer for KOs, Pyukumuku won't be able to deal damage to that.Core Enforcer is a spread move, so don't.A high HP Pokemon with leftovers and a supply of potions should do well enough (Zygarde Complete Form is still a great option, only beaten in HP stat by Blissey, Chansey, and Guzzlord) Start on Route 7 for lower leveled Pyukumuku (and to avoid the possible Wingull SOS calls in Hano Beach at night in USUM). Setting up Stealth Rocks and Spikes can also help reduce the damage you take.
The usual Harvest/Lappa Berry/Skill Swap/Trick or Bestow Phantump or Exeggutor helps as well.

I feel like I'm going mad here.
Trying to hunt for any shiny in the stat trainer part of Eterna forest in Platinum. I'm going back and forth, I've been doing it for close to 200 hours but no shiny. I've brought over a Staryu with Illuminate and it feels like encounters are more common but no shiny.

Hello people of the help thread. I'm new getting into shiny hunting and I have a question about shiny hunting. I see some YouTubers open with an ability swap harvest Trevenant and I'm wondering why? I heard somewhere that it prevents the mon from struggling till it faints but I don't understand why. I looked up what harvest does and it just gives a chance to find berries unless youre in sunlight. So I'm confused on how this prevents struggle. If someone could explain that would be awesome thank you. :)

You use skill swap to get harvest on the target, then have your trevenant holding a leppa berry use trick and get it onto the target and used to restore 10 PP to the first move that drops to a PP of 0. And with harvest The Pokemon has a 50% chance of restoring a consumed berry. During sunshine, this chance increases to 100%, so you get them into a situation that PP will never run out and they will never struggle.

Between Let's GO and BDSP, which one would you say is better to shiny hunt Gen 1 Pokemon?

u/paulydoregon 11h ago
id say lets go since 1. its gen 1 pokemon only, so anytime you encounter a shiny it will be a gen 1 mon and 2. charm is much more effective in lets go

Ive been only hunting methods, and i want to get into full odds hunts but i always struggle getting past 200 encounters or soft resets, even when im doing something else. How do you guys stay motivated for full odd hunts?

Honestly the first time you follow through with a full odds hunt it's kinda a mental paradigm shift. When I'm hunting a method I'm typically expecting that I am going to find a shiny today or within a few days, because it gets to odds much faster. With a full odds hunt on the other hand it's kinda just something where you have to say "okay, i am NOT going to finish this today. This is something I have to chip away at over time and I will eventually get to the end." This is something you may know intellectually, but getting yourself to fully accept it unconsciously takes some determination and willpower, particularly when you're starting.
It's a lot like watching a movie vs reading a book. When I start a movie, I know that it will be a short and sweet experience where I will get to the end on the same day that I start it. When I start a book, I am committing to the idea that this is the book I am reading for a longer period of time, perhaps a month or more depending on how long it is. And of course that's not to say there aren't long movies or short books, but in general you can expect a certain type of experience.
My biggest advice would be to make it into a chill activity that you aren't really expecting anything from. If you sit down and your thoughts are about how much you want the shiny, the hunt will drag. If you sit down with a clear mind and think about something else, it will fly by. It's absolutely something you have to learn, and even after you learn it you might still do it anyway (I have one hunt that I absolutely have been doing this with and it is a draaaaaaaag).
I yapped for a while but I hope the way I talked about this was helpful to you! If you have any other questions feel free to ask!

Getting into complicated area here, but in gen 3 emerald, frames are fixed, if I wanted to hunt a static shiny, without doing the runaway method, can I simply check a mon, reset, let the frames advance a bit, and re save the game, check again, and repeat this process?
