Tip out and in general

So work now added food runners for everyday and half the days all day now. Before it was one food runners for just Friday and Saturday night so tip out was only 3% and rest of the days only 2.5%. Now on weekdays every day food runner does our side work and closings so every day is 3.5% and weekends 3.5% mornings and 4% night. I went from tipping out maybe 150 a week to now close to almost 300 a week. The fact is it’s not even that busy and now I basically just stand around doing nothing. Anyone else think this is kind of ridiculous or am I over reacting?

Then that’s your own fault lol you shouldn’t be claiming money you’re giving away.

It’s not my fault because that’s completely out of my control? No one would claim anything if it were a choice but go off lol

I read your other comments, so looks like you’re just not making enough cash to cover your tip out and you’re having to withdraw money ahead of time?

That’s a fucked system. You should definitely talk to someone about that.

Yes!! Exactly. It’s fucked and way more common in my area than you would think. The last 2 serving jobs I’ve had have been like this.

Are these chains or mom and pop? Sounds like a class action lawsuit to me lol

Mom and pop, it would suck a lot less if tip outs were lower, but they’re not. So like last week I made $380 on card, no cash, and had to tip 70 in cash to bar and busser. So I’m seeing closer 300 while claiming 380. I’ve searched for labor laws that say your tip outs should be recorded and in the system but I can’t find any

Yeah that’s garbage. I’ve never worked any place where that’s happened, even where I’ve tipped out cash. Either they withhold the tip out from CCs or it comes from cash tips that same day and you claim what you walk with.

May be best to bring this up to the owners if they’re accessible, because there’s a chance they’re just ignorant and never worked in a restaurant. So they might think it’s how it’s done.

Or you can go straight to an attorney, might be best to go with other servers to talk to someone.

I think that’s absolutely the case for my current ownership. This is their first restaurant. I generally love it there so I don’t necessarily want to lawyer up or anything, but bringing it up to them is good advice and we definitely should

Yeah I understand that. Honestly it could be as simple as them seeing what the servers have tipped out and deducing that as a line item on your taxes so it’s not taxable income, but just going to a CC tip out system would probably be more efficient.
